Transcript
00:00Taiwanese officials and members of the Formosa Club, a group of pro-Taiwan European lawmakers,
00:05have announced new security initiatives.
00:08Now all of these efforts take place in a global context
00:11where the security of the Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic regions
00:17have never been more closely linked.
00:21Taiwan, positioned in the front lines of authoritarian expansion,
00:25remains unwavering in its commitment to democracy.
00:30The main item was an agreement on managing risks for undersea cables.
00:35This is an area of growing concern in both Europe and Asia
00:37due to suspected hostilities by China and Russia.
00:41Speakers focused on boosting societal resilience, resisting grey zone tactics,
00:45and expanding trade between democracies.
00:48A Latvian official also gave an update on Taiwan's drone diplomacy in Eastern Europe.
00:52He said drones are an important dual-use technology for both civilians and military
00:57that Europe is considering.
01:00This is a really, I would say, a tectonic shift.
01:04I think there's a lot of opening up that we are right now fine-tuning.
01:08But yes, the time is of essence, and this is something that,
01:12at least in European Parliament, everyone says,
01:14let's approve and let's start to implement.
01:19Members of the Formosa Club have wrapped up their visit to Taipei,
01:22and they say they will continue promoting Taiwan-EU ties after their visit.
