00:00New British Basketball League says NBA will soon be putting teams in Europe.
00:05The new GBB League appears to have let slip news that the NBA will be adding two teams in Europe in 2027.
00:12Not only that, the teams will be competing in the new British Basketball League.
00:16In April 2025, the British Basketball Federation awarded a 15-year license to GBB League Limited to operate the men's professional league.
00:26GBBL is led by Marshall Glickman, the former acting CEO of EuroLeague and former president of the Portland Trailblazers.
00:35It has been met with some opposition from Super League Basketball, which was established in 2024.
00:40The new British Basketball League was initially slated for September 2026, but is now rescheduled for 2027.
00:49GBB League Limited will launch its first season in September 2027,
00:53aligning with NBA Europe's anticipated debut.
00:57This timeline allows collaboration with the British Basketball Federation,
01:01home country associations, and basketball community
01:04to develop an elite academy for future Great Britain national team players, stated GBBL.
01:11Two NBA Europe teams in London and Manchester are expected to compete.
01:16The 2027 date aligns with FIBA Europe president Jorge Garbajosa,
01:21who anticipates NBA Europe's start then.
01:24He believes it will positively impact EuroBasket,
01:27as basketball uniquely partners with and competes against the NBA.
01:31In June, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver discussed possible European expansion to cities like London and Munich.
01:38I will say it's measured in years, not months, Silver said.
01:42So, we're at least a couple years away from launching.
01:44It would be an enormous undertaking.
01:48And while we want to move forward at a deliberate pace,
01:50we also want to make sure that we're consulting with all the appropriate stakeholders,
01:55meaning the existing league, its teams, European players, media companies, and marketing partners.
02:01There's a lot of work to be done.
