00:00Prince Philip intimidated royal staff. He wasn't everyone's cup of tea.
00:05Prince Philip's wit lives on. After working for the British royal family for seven years,
00:10Butler Grant Harreld documented his experience in his memoir,
00:14The Royal Butler, My Remarkable Life in Royal Service.
00:18Harreld opened up about Prince Philip's waggish conduct inside the royal estates.
00:23He would come out with these classic lines and then follow up with a swear word or something,
00:26Harreld said. He recalled staff being nervous around Philip, explaining he was blunt,
00:32he wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but I adored Prince Philip. I like the fact that he didn't
00:36suffer fools and he did speak his mind. The former butler noted, perpetually in hot water over his
00:43inappropriate comments, Prince Philip was a hoot to be around. With a permanent glint in his eye,
00:48Philip was the rock that kept Queen Elizabeth smiling. In his memoir, Harreld recounted
00:53Philip's reaction to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding. When Prince Philip came out,
00:58he turned to the Queen and said, thank God that's over. Harreld explained that when he began working
01:03for the royals in 2004, he quickly learned Philip didn't hold back and said it as it was.
01:09He was well known for using his alternative words. That was what I had witnessed over the years.
01:14That's how he was.
