00:07Emma Thompson has revealed that Donald Trump once asked her on a date,

00:11and it happened on the same day she finalized her divorce from Kenneth Branagh.

00:15The Oscar-winning actress, 66, shared the story during an appearance at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland,

00:22where she received the Leopard Club Award on Friday, August 8, for her career achievements.

00:27Thompson told an outlet the unexpected call from the billionaire came in 1998

00:31while she was on the set of the Dramedy Primary Colors.

00:35The saving Mr. Banks actress revealed,

00:37I was in a trailer on the set.

00:39When my phone rang, and I answered it to hear the businessman, now 79, say,

00:44Hello, this is Donald Trump.

00:47She admitted,

00:48I thought it was a joke and asked,

00:49How can I help you?

00:50Maybe he needed directions from someone.

00:52Then he said,

00:53I'd love you to come and stay at one of my beautiful places.

00:56Maybe we could have dinner.

00:58Her reply was polite but noncommittal.

01:03I'll get back to you.

01:04At the time, Trump had recently separated from his second wife, Marla Maples,

01:08and Thompson suggested he may have been looking for a companion.

01:13I realized that on that day, my divorce decree had come through,

01:16and I bet he's got people looking for suitable people he could take out on his arm.

01:21That's what he was looking for.

01:23Thompson, whose new thriller, The Dead of Winter, also premiered at the Swiss Festival,

01:28added that Trump somehow found her number in her trailer.

01:42Emma Thompson married Kenneth Branagh in 1989,

01:45after meeting on Fortunes of War in 1987.

01:49They divorced in 1995 following his relationship with Helena Bonham Carter.

01:53She wed Greg Wise in 2003,

01:56whom she met on Sense and Sensibility in 1995.
