00:00King Charles makes history.
00:03King Charles III will make history with a state visit to the Vatican to meet Pope Leo XIV.
00:08He will be the first British monarch to pray with a pope since the Reformation,
00:12when Henry VIII's 1534 Act of Supremacy severed ties.
00:17His marriage to Anne of Cleves was annulled in 1540.
00:21That break made British monarchs supreme governor of the Church of England.
00:25Yet Charles will join Pope Leo XIV for an ecumenical prayer at the Sistine Chapel.
00:31The visit will mark Their Majesty's first meeting with Pope Leo XIV since his election in May 2025.
00:38The visit will also mark a significant moment in relations between the Catholic Church and Church of England,
00:44of which His Majesty is supreme governor,
00:47recognizing the ecumenical work they have undertaken
00:49and reflecting the Jubilee year's theme of walking together as pilgrims of hope.
00:54A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office said in a statement,
01:00The Care for Creation service will unite Catholic and Anglican practices,
01:04marking a new chapter for both.
