00:00Natalie Portman. Natalie is an actress, a speaker, a film director, and a producer
00:26with dual Israeli and American citizenship. Originally born in Israel, the girl was given
00:32the name Natalie Hershluk, a Hebrew name, but she took the stage name of Portman. At the tender age
00:40of nine, she was discovered in a pizza shop by a beauty scout from Revlon Cosmetics who encouraged
00:47her to pursue a career in modeling. Portman turned down the potential modeling contract to focus on
00:54acting instead. She was featured in many live performances, but made her powerful film debut
01:00in the movie Leon the Professional.

01:11Following this role, Natalie won roles in Heat, Beautiful Girls, and Mars Attacks. In 1997,
01:19she spent a year on Broadway in the title role of The Diary of Anne Frank. The play was a critical
01:27success, and Portman was credited with delivering a fresh interpretation of Anne Frank's character.
01:34It was not until 1999 that Natalie received worldwide fame as Queen Amidala in the highly anticipated
01:41$431 million grossing prequel, Star Wars Episode I, The Phantom Menace.

02:16have to appear nude. However, Susan Sarandon insisted she wouldn't work without Portman,
02:23so the script was revised to accommodate the young actress.
02:27Many years later, Portman went through a lot while filming the drama thriller Black Swan.
02:32First, she broke a rib. Portman also injured her ankle, and there was no medic on set,
02:38as the production budget didn't allow for it. She also lost 20 pounds for the role,
02:43training up to 16 hours a day. What is more, the actress paid for all of her own ballet training
02:50for the movie. And it was worth it. Her role as the disturbed ballerina Nina Cyrus in Black Swan
02:57won her an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for the Best Actress and the Screen Actor Skill

03:08After her Oscar win, she appeared in the drama, Hesher, the romantic comedy, No Strings Attached,
