00:00Oh wow, well it's the first time in over 20 years one of the nation's favourite tapes is going to be returning tomorrow night.
00:07That's right, isn't it?
00:09Brookside is back. It's a one-off crossover with Hollyoaks.
00:13Fans of the show will get to find out what some of their favourite characters have been up to,
00:17including the likes of Tim Tinnett O'Leary, played by Philippe Olivier, and Barry Grant, played by Paul Usher.
00:23Before we catch up with them, let's look at some of their iconic remnants.
00:27You can't expect me to do nothing after today.
00:31It was horrible, wasn't it?
00:33That woman didn't even know her.
00:35That's for Alan Dixon's here and up to go.
00:38It was funny though when he coughed that second day.
00:41Broke into the corkulous.
00:43What?
00:43Just after we got back.
00:45What?
00:46It's all gone out of hand then.
00:50Oh, well done Barry, I did enjoy that.
00:52What's that?
00:53Oh, this, this unfortunately is a videotape.
00:57You're joking.
00:58Go and get a shout out of Barry, you deserve it.
01:01Hey Sizzler, you never told me nothing about an old videotape.
01:05What did he tell you?
01:06Nothing he never told me not.
01:07That's bang out of order, that is Sizzler.
01:08Barry, Barry, get out!
01:12Oh!
01:12So many great memories.
01:15I'm probably sticky on it, isn't it?
01:18You've barely changed.
01:21Yeah.
01:23Welcome to the tourney.
01:24Thank you for joining us.
01:25Nice to see you.
01:26Billy, it's so lovely to see you both.
01:28It's so lovely to reminisce over those clips.
01:30But to have Brookside coming back, it's a big celebration with Hollyoaks, Sharon.
01:34That's right.
01:34It's a Hollyoaks 30th.
01:36And Hollyoaks was born out of Brookside.
01:39So what they're going to do is in the Hollyoaks episode on Wednesday night,
01:43we'll see the characters come from the Hollyoaks world and go into the Brookside world,
01:47where they bump into some old friends.
01:50I can't remember.
01:50Wow.
01:51Bill, what was it like getting the phone call saying,
01:53oh, what do you fancy doing this weekend?
01:55Do you fancy coming and doing some filming?
01:56Yeah, it was weird.
01:57It was like, agent called me up and said, would you like to do Hollyoaks?
02:01I was like, again?
02:02Something like years ago, and I was away all summer.
02:05And he said, it's only for a couple of days.
02:06It'll be September.
02:07And I went, yeah, all right, brilliant.
02:08Get to see all the guys on over there.
02:11And then he went, yeah, and you're coming back as Tinnard?
02:13What?
02:15Send me the script.
02:16How do you mean it?
02:17Yeah.
02:18All comes apparent.
02:19I don't really want to give it away.
02:21But last night, it was the 30th anniversary.
02:23Well, Brookside's 30.
02:25Sorry, Hollyoaks is 30 years old.
02:26So they had big celebrations in St. George's Hall last night.
02:29Wow.
02:30He had a load of fans attend, done a big spectacle,
02:33and then showed the three episodes, which are on this week.
02:36And they are electric.
02:38Are they?
02:38Yeah.
02:39Oh, last night's ended with Claire up in the plane.
02:42It was all fantastic.
02:43But there is this moment where they go back.
02:46So the Grant family are back together again.
02:49So you're there with your mum and dad.
02:51Yeah.
02:53Are you going to tell us anything about the script?
02:55So Sheila, you bet Sheila and Bobby.
02:57Yeah.
02:58They're back together.
02:59Yeah, well, are they?
03:01You know, we don't know.
03:03No.
03:03And that's...
03:04But some of the things I was hearing,
03:06I was a bit confused myself,
03:08because obviously I haven't seen it for 12 years.
03:10Yeah.
03:12So that was...
03:13Yeah, it was interesting, you know,
03:15just to...
03:16Obviously, to get back with them
03:17and be around them was great.
03:19But the best thing about it was, like,
03:21seeing all the sparks and...
03:23Yeah.
03:23Some make-up and all that, you know?
03:24All the crew and everything, yeah.
03:25Yeah, it was just like going...
03:27You know, going back, seeing your family.
03:29I bet for the first 10 minutes it's weird
03:31and then you just slip straight back into it again, don't you?
03:33Yeah, exactly, yeah.
03:34Was there ever a moment where you thought,
03:35you know what, no, I'm not going to do this,
03:37I'm not up for this,
03:38when they first went to the phone call?
03:40Yeah, when they first went to the phone call,
03:42I went, be a kid.
03:43And the phone went down and then they...
03:45And then they...
03:46Why?
03:47Why did you think, you know what, I'm not sure...
03:49I just thought, what's the point?
03:51Yeah, what's it going to be?
03:52You know, and how are they going to do it?
03:54But, like, then when I found out,
03:58they phoned me back up and said,
03:59well, Ricky and Sue and Phil and, you know,
04:04and...
04:04The gags back in there.
04:06Ricky Stark.
04:06Yes.
04:07Were doing it as well.
04:08But I didn't even know he was in all the outs,
04:10you know what I mean?
04:11As someone else, you know what I mean?
04:13People with two names in there,
04:15you know what I mean, Lewis.
04:17So, er...
04:18So then they talked you into it, essentially?
04:21Oh, yeah, well...
04:22It's FOMO then, though, isn't it?
04:23Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:25And, you know, they're all there,
04:25you think, I can't possibly miss out.
04:27Yeah, I just thought, well, you know,
04:28I do see them every now and again, you know,
04:31but it was just...
04:32It'd be nice to be all back together, you know?
04:34Yeah.
04:35Well, you did mention Louis II names there.
04:37Louis II.
04:38Right, so this is my theory.
04:39So the thing is, there's been characters
04:40that have been in Hollyoaks and Brookside
04:42with the same actor with different names.
04:44So Louis Emmerich, of course, is Donny in Hollyoaks,
04:48but he was Mick Johnson in Brookside.
04:50So when he goes back to Brookside,
04:52because he does go in the cab with Sinbad,
04:54is he Mick or is he Donny?
04:56I'm lost.
04:57Now, can you imagine how that was?
04:59I had to do a scene with him,
05:00so I'd come out and I went like that.
05:01I went, I like two names.
05:03You know, I'm just like...
05:04So the next thing is, he phoned me,
05:06they put it in the script.
05:09So he's now two names.
05:11So he's now known as two names.
05:12Brilliant.
05:14And isn't there...
05:15Phil, isn't there...
05:15You're talking of names.
05:16Tin Ed, your character's name,
05:18was someone you were at school with?
05:20Is that where it came from?
05:21No, a funny story.
05:23Like, yeah, so I've got the parts of Tin Ed,
05:25which is an unusual name.
05:26Yes.
05:27Especially when you're in the street
05:28and people shout that name.
05:29But yeah, but I went to school
05:31and then outside our school,
05:33there was a big wall
05:35and someone from a rival school
05:37who was a bit of a hard knock,
05:38which we all knew around our age.
05:41He's a big Tin Ed,
05:43you know, we're seeing 10 years old.
05:44And I know a few writers lived on there,
05:47but I'm not saying nothing,
05:48but then the character's name was there.
05:50So then I remember being out
05:52about a year after being in the show
05:54and this lad, who was the actual Tin Ed,
05:56come up to me and said,
05:57you've got my name.
05:59He didn't rock you up as well, did he?
06:01No, he didn't.
06:02He didn't.
06:02He didn't rock Tin Ed up.
06:03Oh, he's not a great thing.
06:05What did you say?
06:06Yeah, I did rock your name.
06:08But weren't you a fan of the show
06:10before you went in it?
06:11Didn't you get, like,
06:12seen off by security at some stage or another?
06:15It was the best job in the world
06:16because on the estate where Brookside is,
06:18I actually lived on that estate.
06:20Before you were in it then?
06:21Before I was in it.
06:22So anyone who was on that estate
06:23knew Brookside film,
06:24they knew how big it was.
06:26Me and my friends,
06:26we were only about 12,
06:28used to run along the river
06:29and jump over the fence,
06:30went filming all stop
06:31and security guards had chased us.
06:33And all we wanted was, like,
06:34Barry Cantore to go.
06:35Oh!
06:36Now it was me.
06:38So, look,
06:39I know that this is a one-off,
06:40but is there any suggestion?
06:43Like, we've seen it happen in the past
06:44where sometimes they do a little special
06:46and then the fan for all is so much
06:49that someone somewhere goes,
06:50ooh, maybe we could bring it back.
06:53I think we really should.
06:54I think we really, really should.
06:56Do you know what?
06:56When the first people talked about it
07:01or whatever,
07:01you thought,
07:01it's ridiculous.
07:03But you don't have to go back on the clothes
07:05and getting that kind of vibe.
07:09Yeah.
07:10Then it might have something to say.
07:12Yes.
07:12Listen, yesterday.
07:13That's the thing about Brookside.
07:15Yeah.
07:16You know, in its heyday,
07:17it had something to say
07:18about what was going on in the world.
07:20Yeah.
07:20Yeah.
07:21The reaction of people on the street,
07:22though, is just phenomenal.
07:23Has it been right?
07:24Yeah.
07:24Everyone thinks that the whole series
07:25is coming back.
07:27We can't let it down.
07:28All yours is.
07:29Yeah.
07:30But yesterday,
07:30they talked about footballers' wives.
07:32Yes.
07:32There's a reboot of footballers' wives
07:34coming back.
07:34So there is, like,
07:34there's definitely an appetite for it.
07:36Right.
07:37Problem, though,
07:37isn't it?
07:37All the people that have now
07:38moved into those houses.
07:40Yeah.
07:40That was the weird thing.
07:41Normally, when we used to film there,
07:43we used to film inside the houses as well.
07:44But when we went back there,
07:46we weren't allowed to take the houses.
07:47So when you stopped filming,
07:48next, you sold off the carapans?
07:49We did go inside ours.
07:50We did go inside ours.
07:51Did you go in yours?
07:52Yeah.
07:52What was that like?
07:53It was weird.
07:54It really was weird.
07:55Because we used to have holes in walls
07:57and stuff so that,
07:58you know,
07:58a big picture would go up
08:00and the camera would go down.
08:01The camera could sit there.
08:01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:02But then,
08:03the girl who was,
08:04who lived in the house,
08:06she said she was hearing
08:07first off with people.
08:08Oh, careful.
08:09Locked it off the door.
08:10Oh, careful.
08:11Be careful this time in the morning.
08:12Apologies.
08:13It's not 30 bucks.
08:14Was it that bad?
08:18Well, it can be.
08:19Good thing about.
08:20Oh, God, she was upset.
08:21She was upset about the holes in the walls.
08:23Was that what you said?
08:24Visibly upset.
08:25I don't want people knocking
08:28on the door.
08:30Oh, really?
08:30You know, fans of the show
08:32coming up.
08:32Come and see, you know.
08:34Amazing.
08:34Yeah.
08:35Well, look, we're thrilled.
08:36We're thrilled that you could come in
08:37and share a few memories with us.
08:39Thank you for being here today.
08:40And we will look forward
08:41to those episodes.
08:42Oh, it's brilliant.
08:43It's on every night this week.
08:44So, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
08:45it's Hollyoaks
08:46and the Hollyoaks Wednesday
08:47will go to the rookie world.
08:48And this is where the petition starts.
08:50Yes.
08:50Very bad.
08:51Yes, here we go.
08:52We just started now, please.
08:53Lovely to see you both.
08:56Thanks, Shannon.
08:57Right, coming up after the break,
08:58we'll have more reaction
08:59to our interview
09:00with Virginia Tray's family
09:01and the latest headlines
