00:40Hillary Diane Clinton was born Hillary Diane Rodham on October 26, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois.
00:47She was raised in Park Ridge, Illinois, a picturesque suburb located 15 miles northwest
00:52of downtown Chicago.
00:54Hillary Rodham was the eldest daughter of Hugh Rodham, a prosperous fabric store owner, and
00:59Dorothy Emma Howell Rodham.
01:01She has two younger brothers.
01:03She graduated from Maine South High School in 1965, being a national merit finalist.
01:08Both her parents wanted her to have an independent career, not limited by gender biasness.
01:13She was inspired to work in public service after hearing a speech in Chicago by the Reverend
01:18Martin Luther King Jr., and became a Democrat in 1968.
01:22She enrolled at the Wellesley College in 1965, majoring in political science.
01:27In her college years, she was active in student politics, and was elected as the president
01:32of the Wellesley Young Republicans.
01:33Clinton worked at various jobs during her summers as a college student.
01:37In 1971, she first came to Washington, D.C. to work on U.S. Senator Walter Mondale's subcommittee
01:43on migrant workers.
01:44In the summer of 1972, she worked in the western states for the campaign of Democratic presidential
01:49nominee George McGovern.
01:51In the spring of 1974, Rodham became a member of the presidential impeachment inquiry staff,
01:57advising the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives during the Watergate scandal.
02:02She contested for the U.S. Senate seat from New York, eventually winning the same by a huge
02:07margin, and was sworn in on January 3, 2001.
02:11With this, she became the first wife of a president to seek and win national office, and the first
02:16woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate from New York, she easily won re-election in November
02:212006.
02:22In 2007, she hinted about her intention of contesting the presidential elections of 2008, thus becoming
02:29the first woman to be nominated by a major party.
02:32Though she lost the elections to Barack Obama, she was nevertheless appointed as the Secretary
02:37of State.
02:38As the Secretary of State, she continued to raise her voice for women's rights and human
02:42rights.
02:43Furthermore, she prominently advocated U.S. military intervention in Libya, and was at
02:47the forefront of U.S. response to Arab Springs.
02:50She was one of the most traveled secretaries of state.
02:53She relinquished the position on February 1, 2003.
02:57Hillary Rodham married Bill Clinton on October 11, 1975, at their home in Fayetteville.
03:03Before he proposed marriage, Clinton had secretly purchased a small house that she had remarked
03:08that she liked.
03:09When he proposed marriage to her, and she accepted, he revealed that they own the house.
03:14Their daughter, Chelsea Victoria, was born on February 27, 1980.

03:22In April 2015, Clinton formally announced her candidacy for the presidency in the 2016 election.
03:29She faced a strong challenge from Democratic Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, but
03:34emerged victorious to be formally nominated at the 2016 Democratic National Convention in
03:39July 2016.
03:42Pitted against business tycoon Donald Trump of the Republican Party for the presidential
03:46chair, she held a significant lead in national polls over Trump throughout most of 2016.
03:52During her campaigns, she based her economic philosophy on inclusive capitalism and supported
03:58the U.S. Export-Import Bank.
04:00She also called for a U.S. constitutional amendment that would result in overturning the 2010 Citizens
04:06United decision.
04:08She supported the right to same-sex marriage and equal pay for equal work.
04:12She focused on family issues in her campaigns and was strongly in favor of universal preschool
04:17and the Affordable Care Act.
04:19With various controversies surrounding her presidential opponent Donald Trump, it seemed for a while that
04:24Hillary Clinton might win the presidential election, however, it was not to be, and on
04:29November 8, 2016, she lost the presidential election to Trump.
04:33She has been the proud recipient of numerous awards and medals for her outstanding contributions
04:38as a politician and in the field of law.
04:40Furthermore, she was reckoned in every role that she took up.
04:44She has also been conferred with several honorary degrees from universities across the globe.
