00:00let's talk about sectors though given that we are on the cusp of the second
00:04half of twenty twenty five years three sectors in the s and p five hundred
00:08energy health care and say consumer discretionary
00:11in the red but you can see more green on the screen because
00:14was a pretty good first half
00:16let's break down some of the biggest winners and losers in the s and p five
00:19hundred the boomer cross asset reporter emily graffail
00:23let's start with the good news who did well this first half okay so like you
00:26said the energy names did well
00:28not all of them though we'll talk about solar names in the laggards but first
00:32for the gainers nrg energy was up eighty percent so far this year it's an owner
00:37and operator of power generating facilities so it plays on that theme of
00:42needing more data centers to power a i investors here really seeing it getting
00:46a boost
00:47and again on that a i theme palantir is another one
00:51on fire
00:52yet again it was up three hundred forty percent
00:55last year and it's up again this year as a reminder
00:58this is the data uh... company they work with both companies but also uh... the
01:02u.s government and it's getting an extra boost this year because analysts are
01:06saying that it's winning more business from the trump administration
01:09so that stock up seventy two percent
01:12year to date
01:13another name kind of in that similar theme
01:15how met aerospace i have to admit
01:17hadn't heard of this company but i should have because it is up again another seventy
01:21seventy percent uh... this year it's a jet engine manufacturer similar again theme here to palantir
01:27analysts say the profit is firmly pegged to commercial aerospace and defense engine demand
01:33and then finally we still have a tech name uh... among the top four seagate technology it's
01:38a data storage company but again that that kind of tech play a i name uh... driving the gains this year i do think it's cool to point out that the biggest gainer on an individual basis is an energy name but the sector overall is in negative territory for the first half
01:53i think it's crazy that we've never heard of how met
01:57aerospace and it's a seventy five
02:00billion dollar company
02:01well now it is after that
02:03first am i the only one that hasn't heard of it or like am i missing something
02:06no
02:06even before this it was worth you know forty billion forty five billion dollars
02:13um
02:14you think if somebody said hey i work for this company and you say i never heard of it and they say it's worth forty five billion dollars you'd feel
02:20pretty silly
02:21okay in terms of the biggest losers
02:25i guess deckers is the number one biggest loser year-to-date and i always think that this is a company that makes like home-improvement goods
02:33right like it
02:34or death
02:35rights but it's not it's a
02:37it's a shoo maker right so they make uggs they make hokas
02:41when i saw that they were you know among the latter laggards coming on katie's show i was like oh my god she's gonna be so disappointed
02:48but i feel like the laggards are kind of painting this picture of consumers
02:52pulling away from buying clothes and also solar panels we'll get to that but deckers
02:58outdoor they provided a disappointing first-quarter forecast in the latest earnings
03:02i guess people just aren't buying as many hokas and uggs
03:05i buy hokas twice a year so i'm doing what i can yeah you might be the only one there's a lot of competition
03:09in that space in the in the sneaker space and then also the athleisure space lululemon was
03:14again among one of those laggards of uh the year
03:17they also cited what is the competition there because
03:20for lululemon yeah i mean i know that there is you can go a little bit down market right
03:24with athleta yeah but is there there's no other gold standard of yoga pants than lululemon right
03:31i think in aloe yoga yeah there's beyond yoga everyone has everyone is on to the athleisure
03:36theme if you're a retail but isn't aloe the same thing and they just increase the price by 50 percent
03:41yeah but what's the difference people feel like it's more premium but there there is competition in
03:46this space in fact they actually on lululemon is getting in a spat with costco right now for
03:50potential trademark issues cuz again costco's kinda trying to use that that athleisure feel
03:57and that premium feel in their products uh... we also have enphase energy solar names getting a hit
04:02you guys were talking about uh... the tax credit uh... potentially changing for solar names and then
04:07also united health that company has been hit very hard this year the earnings haven't been great
04:13there's been management shakeups and then it's been facing multiple investigations from the
04:17doj over billing and antitrust issues in the medicare program so consumer health and then also
04:23solar names getting hit
