00:00Hi there. So it's been a while. I wanted to update you on what's going on. First of all Shadywoods.
00:06So Shadywoods is making the rounds through the festivals which takes a while and
00:12most of them will be done in autumn. And Shadywoods has already won one award at a very tiny
00:19Japanese festival and made finalists at a London TV film festival and some other place I forgot
00:27about. And so that's what you have to kind of live with if you're doing festivals is basically a lot
00:34of rejections. This is Film Freeway which is a portal that allows you to quickly send off all
00:39the assets that you need to enter a competition or a festival. So you upload your main video and
00:46posters and direct the statement and then you can just basically register certain festivals and
00:52it'll automatically be sent there. So if you look at this you can see Fungus and Mold first, second,
00:59third episode and Shadywoods and Fungus and Mold. You see this here, this black thing here, 31 not
01:05selected. This is the reality of going to festivals and this was with minor festivals. I got six awards,
01:13actually I got seven awards. One was from a festival that is not using Film Freeway.
01:19So that was fairly successful. Second episode, I didn't really do many festivals, so I didn't really
01:27read much. Same here, I tried again with the third episode, 22 not selected, one finalist, one nominee,
01:34no award whatsoever. And with Shadywoods right now it's 30 undecided, still pending. So 16 already ditched me
01:43and two finalists, one selected. It's a bit weird because the selected was actually the one where I got an award,
01:51but I think on Film Freeway they just said, I'm selected. This is so much about festivals. And you know,
02:00doing the festivals again felt to me like I'm a bit tired of it. Because eventually if you want to win a prize at a festival,
02:09you have to actually be very psychological. I mean, normally you only go to the festivals where you know
02:16the people, the jury, like the kind of contents you make and the kind of topics and the kind of style
02:23you have. And it's kind of strategic. And I feel like you're just catering to some people with a very
02:30weird taste in videos often. And if you are commercial and not artsy or fancy or kind of deep
02:40meaning filmmaker, then you're not going to win much. That's the thing. And I'm kind of tired of
02:47that. And I'm tired of asking for permission to be creative and asking for permission to make the
02:53series. And I also don't have to budget to keep on doing Shadywoods. Because as I said, the two main
03:01characters are voiced by two professional voice actors. Richard did a fantastic banging job, you
03:08know. But the harsh reality is without any kind of funding or budget, I cannot go on with Shadywoods. So
03:17I guess unless a miracle happens and somebody picks me up and says, let's do a whole season and I'm
03:22gonna hear is a few million dollars. Shadywoods will end with a pilot and just hang there in limbo
03:28forever. Having said that, I was aware of that. And I was clear, it was pretty clear to me that it's
03:35not going to go anywhere, probably. And so I really plan to do a reboot of Fungus and Mold. Because,
03:43well, this one is showing its age, you know, it's the first animation I've ever done. I can't really
03:49watch it anymore. It's kind of really just so many things that are just bad, wrong with it,
03:53especially the other pilot. And I thought if I'm going to continue Fungus and Mold because I like
03:58the characters, I'd have to reboot it. I have to kind of draw the line and say, okay, that was the
04:03first attempt. Let's just redo this thing. And so I thought I tried to rewrite the story. I tried to
04:10slightly massage the characters into something else. But it never felt right. It never felt like this is
04:16where Fungus and Mold should go. And it really didn't have any good ideas for any new stories
04:21because I had written so many stories for the old Fungus and Mold that it's so ingrained in me now.
04:29This is what Fungus is. This is what Mold is. This is what the world is. That everything,
04:33changing anything too massively about that felt like destroying a legacy. It just felt wrong. It didn't
04:39feel like this is something I should be doing. And so then I thought like, okay, let's just think
04:47about, can I do a different sci-fi? And I was into kind of retro stuff and I was researching into the
04:53German empire and I thought, Hey, what about some, some steampunk thing? And I had this idea. And then
05:00I was working with my son on a logo with, with, with deer and stags. And I thought like hunting,
05:05that could be maybe something, you know, steampunk hunting that fits the whole narrative. And then
05:11I created a character, a bunch of characters. I had a few ideas. So there was this hunter guy
05:16and he would be hunting all kinds of fantastic beasts and monsters throughout the galaxy. That was
05:21the first idea. And, uh, it first looked like this. That was the main character I had initially.
05:29And then, uh, I felt, yeah, but if it's all too, if I, I, while I like steampunk, if it gets a bit too
05:39steampunky too, it also almost looks like some weird S and M fantasy thing. And it gets kind of like
05:45off putting to me personally. So I thought it has to be a kind of a clean sci-fi future with some
05:51speampunky elements, but not too dark cogwheel steam level of kind of thingy. And anyway,
05:59so I, I, I did this guy and he felt a bit too antiquated with that beard, you know, that, that
06:04goes all the way to the, what do you call these parts here? And then I redrew him again with a
06:09normal mustache. Where is he? And that, that didn't feel right either. And then I thought like,
06:15this guy kind of that hair, if you shave the sides off a bit, you know, played with that. And then he,
06:22I had this kind of slightly hipster look, you know, suddenly he has this, this, this,
06:28all the hair shaved off here. He's got those glasses and he wears this, this, this, this very
06:33German hunting clothing, you know, lederhosen, the knee length pants, knee length socks
06:39and the gumsbad, whatever you call this, the tuft of a, what's, what's it again, chamois, chamois tuft,
06:47the gumsbad, the gumsbad, you may. And, uh, yeah. And I thought like, oh, I'm going to do this.
06:56And I don't really recall how this happened, but I had this epiphany then where, where I thought like,
07:02oh, I want to bring in more modern elements, like, like social networks and phones. And, and then it kind
07:07of struck me like, wow, how, what about if that guy, that hunter wasn't a hunter, but some social
07:13influencer dude who just poses with guns. He's just this poser. He's completely hopeless.
07:19And then I had this, it went on and the idea was like, oh, he comes from a legacy of Hunter. So all his
07:24grandparents, great grandparents, like, uh, this is his great, great, great granddad was a big hunter.
07:31And then there is the original main character became then an ancestor. Where is he? So there's
07:38another ancestor of his, another ancestor of his, another ancestor of his. And now that the main
07:44character became this hip hipster dude who inherited all that gear, all the clothing, some trophies,
07:52uh, and he himself is useless. And so what he did then essentially was maybe he, he, he dyed the
08:02clothing into some more hip colors, like this purple stuff here. And what he does then, uh, is he just
08:08poses on social media with this stuff. Like, like he's manly, he's doing the, like the Sigma kind of, uh,
08:15thingy and, uh, gets very popular, has millions or billions or trillions of followers and becomes super
08:21famous as the hunter influencer dude. And that's where it struck me again with the names. I want to,
08:27I want to give these characters like German names. I want to go like, like, like, as I said, German
08:31empire. So the emperor in that world is called the Kaiser. And I thought the dude is a Sigma dude.
08:38And I thought, oh, there is a German name Sigma. I think you have the same in, in, in Sweden or something.
08:44It's, it's a Nordic name Sigma. And I guess that is the perfect pun. This guy's name is Sigma
08:49or American English. You should say Sigmar. There's an R, which you in British, in British
08:54English, you wouldn't pronounce much. Uh, and, uh, he is a dude. He, he invented the Sigma look,
09:00the Sigma look with an R, mind you. Uh, and that was that. And then the idea was, okay,
09:06so what happens now that now there is this, this emperor who then might call him or, um,
09:11um, give him the post of imperial huntsman or whatever. And so he has to now start hunting,
09:19although he has no idea, never handled a gun in his real life. And, uh, that would be the funny
09:24thing that he is a complete poser and he's very concerned about his appearance and to look good,
09:29but he has no idea about hunting, but he has to hunt now, because of course,
09:32if the Kaiser asks you to hunt, not doing so naturally means treason and you don't want to
09:39go there. Right. And, uh, that, that is the setup basically. He also, of course, gets a,
09:45gets a character with him. Originally I had an alien. I started off with fungus as the initial
09:50idea. So I had this alien here. Uh, then I gave him a different, um, that's a different outfit.
10:00There's another outfit, but I felt like it was, yeah, yellow, yellow is a harmless color.
10:04And I always thought like if they, if he's yellow, he looks cute and kind, nice. Uh,
10:09didn't really click. And I don't know how I got to this again. Yeah. I was thinking mollusks,
10:14mollusks, which basically all the animals like, like slugs and snails and octopuses and
10:19squids are all mollusks. And somehow he had to be a mollusk because I just didn't think
10:24mollusk is the most alien creature on earth as we know it. It's got like seven brains,
10:29one brain for each damn tentacle almost or something. And, uh, and so it has to be a mollusk.
10:35And so I thought, what if I make him look a bit more mollusk like, you know? Um, and then I had this
10:41idea, where is that? Can I hide this guy here? Yep. So this would be the natural state of the mollusk.
10:47Of course, this one only having six arms. I just did that actually six arms because I was too lazy to draw
10:52eight, four, five, six. Yeah. And, but, uh, he somehow completely digs
11:00these kind of old fashioned uniforms. And to assimilate more with humans,
11:06he normally slips his arms into a uniform and he looks like this. Where is he?
11:10And that worked perfectly because now he has two arms, two legs, and the two other arms at the back,
11:18they look like tails from his tailcoat. So he blends in as looking more human.
11:24And that is the other character. And then there is, of course, a robot, which is very heavily based on,
11:31on, on Alice. So instead of a ball, it's just this kind of pressure portal. It looks like a, like a
11:38Japanese, an old Japanese rice cooker, actually. And I wanted him to look kind of kind of really old,
11:43because he is really old. He's hundreds of years old, because it's part of the inheritance that the
11:48main character got when he inherited all that gear from his great, great, great grandfather,
11:54including this guy. And his name will be Eisenhardt, which is a nice wordplay. It's, it's German.
12:00Eisen means iron and hard, of course, as in English means hard. So it's, it's, it's a kind of a perfect
12:08name. And that's the setup here. And oh, here's the emperor, by the way, yeah, who is a jolly nice fellow
12:15who loves the hunt. That's why he has a hunter to bring all these trophies to him, because he has,
12:21of course, being an emperor is too busy and cannot really hunt himself, but he loves to hunt. He wants
12:26to hear every detail of every hunt that Sigma does. And he kind of lives through that hunt then,
12:33by hearing these tales and looking at the trophies he's got on the wall. That is the setup. And
12:38what I have now is I've been very creative. Yeah. Can you see this? This
12:51is one full season of scripts. Yeah, you can see the titles. I'll, it's fine. Once the first one's
12:59called Meister Jäger, it's of course, a bit of a punny nod towards a certain alcoholic beverage.
13:04Peranormal inactivity, one shell of a hunt, die hardly, hunt for the red octoberon, shell shock,
13:12the broly grail, Eisenstein, mission insufferable, the pasta stratagem, the trouble with nibbles and
13:19competition. And I know, I mean, you should know what, what I'm punning there. And then silent
13:25night violent fights so that the episode 12, of course, will be seasonal and will be a holiday
13:30one. And you already get the hint. The plan is to release this once one episode a month.
13:37And the episodes will be short. The, the pilot is about 11 pages. So that's about eight,
13:45nine minutes. It's a longer one. The rest is all around six pages. So we're talking four or five
13:49minutes short episodes. What's 12 of them? This time around, I will publish this stuff on YouTube,
13:55on X, on Insta, maybe, uh, whatever other platforms are out there, you know, the, what's this thing
14:03called with the blue sky and threads and I don't know, it's out there, let's get it out. I even have
14:09made, um, pages already. So this is for pixel blast with all the characters introduced and stuff.
14:16And, uh, this is on my, my, my blog page. It's not published yet. It's not out there yet. This is still
14:22a draft. Uh, as soon as I start posting, um, maybe snippets of the first episode or something,
14:30then I probably will put this out. Then it's kind of the official launch in a way, because then I can
14:35put out proper vlog episode and everything for this series. And as, as I mentioned, this thing will be out
14:41there entirely. You will be able to watch it once it's done. I will make merchandise in case you want
14:46to have a t-shirt, uh, or phone case or something. Well, that is that finally something to put out there
14:54once it's done and not just put into a festival just for them to ditch me.
14:59And, uh, yeah, it's great. I'm, I'm looking forward to it. I think it's really funny. I think you will enjoy
15:04it. And finally, I can have a final product where I feel like this is presentable. Plus I can put it in
15:10front of you as is a no nonsense. However, having said that, I'm still thinking of like,
15:18I will release one episode a month. That is the plan. I might put only 720p versions on YouTube.
15:24And if you want the full HD glory, you might have to purchase them. Or maybe the other idea could be,
15:29I will release the 12 episodes once one episode a month over the, the, over a year. If you want to
15:38binge watch it and have everything right away, you can maybe buy the whole season in one go or half
15:43a season in one go, uh, that these are options I could still do. Maybe so could do a little bit back,
15:48you know, for the effort I put into it. We'll have to see how that goes and whether people are even
15:54interested in shelling out any money for that, you know. But anyway, this is, uh, all I have to tell
16:00you for today and, uh, stay tuned. Uh, you might want to check out my blog every now and then because
16:06sometimes I just might do a blog post when doing a vlog is a bit too much work or there's not that
16:13much to talk about. Um, stay tuned, stay, check out my, my different threads feed, whatever. I'm pretty
16:20active on X and mostly YouTube as well. Uh, and then my blog, uh, although I know it feels like a,
16:27an anachronism who, who's blogging these days anymore, but I still do. And I just want to keep
16:32that on the site. And if you want to know how things are going, the blog is one of the first
16:37places to check out how far production has come. See you. Bye. Bye.
