Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for continued efforts to establish the Asean Plus Three (APT) Reserve of Medical Supplies for Public Emergencies, describing it as a crucial step towards regional preparedness and resilience.

In his opening remarks at the 28th APT Summit on Monday (Oct 27), Anwar said the grouping’s past experiences have proven that shared challenges can be transformed into collective strengths.

He also extended a warm welcome to South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, who is making his maiden appearance at the Summit.

00:12and coordinator for the plus three countries, Excellency Premier Li Chiang of the People's
00:21Republic of China, and Excellency Li Chiang of the President of the Republic of Korea.
00:29Of course, on behalf of ASEAN, I am pleased to welcome our friends to the plus three countries
00:36to the summit, and of course, I mentioned just now in the bilateral with Korea, a special
00:45welcome to President Li Chiang because this is his first appearance in the ASEAN Summit.
00:54We initiated the ASEAN plus three more than three decades ago for enduring dialogue and
01:00cooperation, and this followed the Asian financial crisis in 1996, APT has prevailed on other crisis
01:12and shown to work during the challenges during the COVID area.
01:24These achievements form a strong foundation that has enabled ASEAN plus three cooperation
01:30to mature.
01:34In this regard, we must double down on engagement and cooperation.
01:38We should also proceed to establish the proposed APT reserve on medical supplies for public health
01:46emergencies to prepare for future health emergencies.
01:51Our task is clear to ensure that growth is fair, prosperity is widely shared, and progress brings
02:02peace.
02:03We must prepare our youth and women for an East Asia region that is sustainable, inclusive,
02:13and interconnected.
02:15So we look forward to constructive engagement in the presence of the three countries, China,
02:22Japan, and Korea, where with our hope that East Asia continues as a cradle of stability,
02:32opportunity, and hope.
02:34And we look forward to it, thank you very much for understanding our vision.
