00:03Edinburgh Zoo released a time-lapse video showing the manpower required to
00:07investigate an undiagnosed swelling on Gilbert the giraffe's face.
00:12Vets, nurses, zookeepers, anaesthetists and dentists all collaborated on the
00:17procedure, which took weeks to plan. The animal care team can be seen massaging
00:22his long legs and using elastic bands to move them, all to ensure adequate blood
00:27flow during the procedure, according to the zoo. The procedure revealed no
00:31apparent cause for the swelling. Vet Harry Winro speculated that the swelling may
00:35have instead been caused by Lifestar, remarking that the mammal quickly
00:39refilled his cheek pouch with food right after it was emptied.
