00:00Ready, Jet, Go!
00:03Jet Propulsion, that's his name
00:06Jet Propulsion, he'll rock into fame
00:09When he arrived, he created a buzz
00:11Cause there was no house, and then there was
00:14He said,
00:15People of Earth, you ain't see nothing yet
00:17I'm a 4-John-7, and my name is Jet
00:20Jet Propulsion, that's his name
00:23He looks like us, but he isn't the same
00:26A space tripper and a galaxy crosser
00:29My parents brought me here in a flying saucer
00:32And just to prove it was effective,
00:34He flew them up to space and back
00:35Jet Propulsion
00:38Jet Propulsion, Jet Propulsion, Jet Propulsion, Jet Propulsion
00:56Jet Propulsion, Jet Propulsion, Jet Propulsion
01:01Oh, remember the Mindy I was before
01:12Way back when I was only four
01:16It wasn't easy, but I survived
01:21Counting each day, till I turned five
01:25It took forever, forever and ever
01:29I thought this day would never arrive
01:34Hey, it's my birthday, yes it's today
01:39I get to play and play and play
01:42I get to play and play and play
01:44Now that I'm five, I'm out of this place
01:48Farther than Jet, you're way out into space
01:52I'm flying there with Buffy Bear
01:55Sydney, Sean and Jet
01:57All my pals in South Spa too
01:59My favorite Elliot pet
02:01Cause
02:02My name is Mindy
02:04And oh by the way
02:06I'm finally five years old
02:11Today!
02:15Mindy sure seems excited about her birthday
02:17Yeah, so excited she's bouncing up and down
02:20How does she jump so high?
02:22Hasn't she heard of Earth's gravity?
02:24It's not her, it's the bounce house
02:26Remember, her mom always gets one for her birthday
02:29Oh right, the house that bounces
02:32Let's go there now
02:33First let's talk about Mindy's present for a sec
02:36Oh right, a present for Mindy
02:38I've got it, here we are
02:40The perfect Earth Day birthday present
02:42Great, what is it?
02:44Ta-da!
02:46A spoon?
02:48Well it can be from all of us
02:50Even though it was my idea
02:52And now to the house of bounciness
02:54Uh Jet, Mindy might not want a spoon for her birthday
02:58What?
02:59Not want a spoon?
03:01What if someone gives her a bowl of soup?
03:03Hold on, Mindy is five
03:05So she probably wants a toy or a book
03:08Ha ha, good one Sean
03:10How can she eat soup with a book?
03:13Guys, I have the perfect present for us to give to Mindy
03:19Oh goody, I love opening presents
03:21Wait, it's Mindy's birthday
03:23So let's save this for her to open
03:25So what did we get Mindy?
03:27I promise it's something she'll want more than anything
03:31Don't be so sure, that's what I thought about the spoon
03:35It's a space helmet!
03:37That is the perfect present
03:39But why would Mindy need a space helmet to jump in a bouncy house?
03:44It's not for the bounce house
03:46Although that is a good safety idea
03:48This is for real outer space
03:50Mindy?
03:52Isn't she still too little?
03:54Remember, Mindy's mom said that when Mindy turns five
03:56She can go past your yard?
03:58Yeah
04:00And today is her fifth birthday
04:02So that means...
04:04Mindy is going to space!
04:08Wow! My very own space helmet!
04:14I'm so excited!
04:16Thanks guys!
04:18Look Stuffy, we can be space twins!
04:21And check out the back!
04:23Here's a place where you can put stickers for every planet you visit
04:26Wow! This is the best present ever!
04:29Here, start with planet Earth
04:31I guess I can count that
04:33Because I'm here now
04:34So where do you want to go next, Mindy?
04:36Pluto?
04:37The rings of Saturn?
04:38Well, I've always wanted to go to the moon
04:40The moon?
04:41But that's so close
04:43And not a planet
04:45But that's okay, I guess
04:47I know the moon is a moon
04:48Not a planet, Sean
04:50But it's so amazing
04:52You mean because we always see the same side of the moon here from Earth?
04:56And you want to see the other side?
04:58That is cool, but not exactly why
05:02Because you want to see the Apollo astronauts' moon footprints up close?
05:06I know I do
05:07That is also really neat
05:09But no, that's not why I want to go
05:12Then why?
05:13Why do you want to go to the moon, Mindy?
05:15I want to go there because I look at it every night from my bedroom window
05:19I want to go up there and wave down to Earth
05:23If Mindy wants to go to the moon, let's take her to the moon!
05:27Yes!
05:28Yay!
05:29I'm so excited
05:30And I know all about the moon craters
05:33They're big holes
05:34And you know what?
05:35Sunspot made me my own moon crater in the sandbox
05:39See?
05:40Oh, good job, Sunspot
05:42Uh, so can we go to the moon now?
05:45Sure
05:46Do you want to pack anything?
05:47Oh yeah, be right back
05:49Okay, ready to go
05:51That was fast
05:52Are you sure you've got everything?
05:54Yep
05:55Nightgown
05:56Toothbrush
05:57A spoon
05:58Battery power
05:59Nightlight
06:00Stuffy bear
06:01Of course
06:02Yep, that's everything I could need on the moon
06:04I guess we're all set then
06:06Wait
06:07Sunspot still needs to pack
06:12Now we're all set
06:13I will never understand that pet
06:16Okay, let's go
06:18Oh boy, oh boy
06:19I finally get to see the moon
06:21I waited five long years for this
06:24And nothing's gonna stop me now
06:26Wait
06:27Is that your friend Lillian coming up the driveway?
06:31It is
06:32Looks like she brought me a birthday present
06:34Remember
06:35Don't say anything about going to the moon
06:38Right
06:39Hi Lillian
06:41I wasn't going to the moon just now
06:45How is that?
06:46Happy birthday Mindy
06:49I'm not going to tell you what your present is
06:52Great
06:53I love surprises
06:54It's a tea set
06:55Oops
06:56Uh, I mean, surprise
07:00Wow
07:01I've always wanted a tea set like this
07:03I know
07:04Now we can finally have a grown-up tea party
07:07Yeah
07:08I'll get fluffy bear ready
07:09And I'll get fluffy bear
07:10Uh, Mindy
07:12Can we talk to you for a second?
07:14We're just gonna have this tea party
07:16Then we can go
07:17But you've waited all this time to go to space
07:20That's true
07:21But Lillian's waited all this time to have a tea party with me
07:26I'm so proud of you for being a good friend Mindy
07:29Let's all join in
07:30Uh, I don't know how you guys do tea parties around here, Sean
07:45But where I come from
07:47Manners are of the utmost importance
07:51Pass the cookies, please
08:01This is gonna be one strange tea party
08:06More tea, anyone?
08:09This is the most funnest tea party ever
08:16I'll say
08:17Oh, pass me another delicious earth cookie
08:19Uh, Jet, they're just cookies here, remember?
08:22Ooh
08:24Lillian, time for gymnastics
08:26Uh-oh, my mom's calling me
08:28I forgot all about gymnastics practice
08:33Bye, Lillian
08:34Save me a cookie, bye
08:40Now can we go to the moon?
08:42Sure, but you should just ask your mom first, right?
08:45Oh, yeah
08:46Boy, there sure are a lot of things you have to do before you can go to the moon around here
08:52Hey, mom
08:54Now that I'm five
08:56Can I go past Ned's yard
08:58Or to the moon with my friends?
09:00Have fun!
09:01As long as you're not crossing the street
09:03Okay, thanks
09:05She said it's fine as long as I'm not crossing the street
09:08But she's fine with you crossing the solar system?
09:12Earth bombs are sure funny
09:13Yep
09:15To the moon!
09:17Did you just say to the moon?
09:20That's right, Mitchell
09:21I'm five now
09:23So I'm going to the moon!
09:25You know how it is
09:26Five-year-olds have such interesting imaginations
09:30Yeah, have fun pretending, Mindy
09:32Come on, Cody
09:33I think I'd know if someone around here was going to the moon for real
09:38Or would you?
09:44Did someone say, go to the moon for real?
09:47Here I am!
09:48Hop in!
09:50Okay, Mindy
09:51Getting into the wagon is kind of a big deal
09:53But don't worry
09:54Just pretend it's like a regular car
09:56Are you kidding?
09:57I've been waiting forever for this
10:01There goes one bold five-year-old
10:04Just to let you know, Mindy
10:05It's perfectly normal to be nervous
10:08I know!
10:09And it's okay if you're nervous, Sean
10:12Me? Nervous?
10:13Not at all
10:14I'm just trying to help
10:15I remember the very first time I flew
10:18I was a little nervous, but now
10:19Five-four
10:20Three-two-one
10:21Wow!
10:22You know the take-off chant
10:23Sure!
10:24I heard these guys do it
10:26Well, then let's do it together!
10:27Ready?
10:28You bet!
10:29But wait, I was-
10:30Five-four-three-two-one
10:31Doors are shut
10:32Engines on
10:33Everybody in their place
10:34Let's go into outer space!
10:39Ready, champion!
10:44At the yard!
10:47Stay with me, Sean
10:48Excelsior
10:51Wheeeee!
10:55We're actually in outer space!
10:58Look out the window, Stuffy!
11:00What does Stuffy Bear think of all this?
11:02Uh, he wants to know more about the moon
11:05Well, he's come to the right place!
11:08What does Stuffy want to know about the moon?
11:10He, uh, kind of heard it was made out of green cheese
11:14But that's not true, right?
11:16Definitely not!
11:18It's made out of rock!
11:20Really old rock!
11:21Like, from before I was born?
11:23Way before then!
11:25Well, here we are!
11:26There we are!
11:27The moon!
11:34We're on the moon!
11:36We're on the moon!
11:42What do you think, Mindy? Ready to go where no five-year-old has gone before?
11:46I was born ready, Mrs. Propulsion!
11:51This is one small step for Mindy, and one giant leap for Stuffy Bear!
12:00And now, here's my friend, astronomer, Amy Minzer!
12:06Thanks, Jet!
12:07Earth's night sky is full of amazing things.
12:10There's always something fun to see, even if you live in the middle of a big city with bright lights, like I do.
12:16For one thing, you can see the moon!
12:19When it's up, the moon is usually the brightest thing in the night sky.
12:23Moon's covered with craters and dark splotches.
12:26Even though the moon looks like it's changing shape every night, it's really not.
12:30Moonlight is just reflected sunlight, and we see different amounts of that lit-up surface
12:34as the moon goes around the Earth.
12:36It's fun to draw the moon from night to night and see how different it looks from our point of view.
12:40Another thing you can see in the night sky are the stars.
12:43You can see some twinkling even if you're in a big city.
12:46If you wait a couple of hours, you can see that they appear to move across the night sky,
12:50just like the sun does during the daytime.
12:53And sometimes you can see other planets in our solar system, like Venus, Jupiter, Mars, or Saturn.
12:58They look like bright stars, but they don't really twinkle.
13:01That's Saturn.
13:02If you can get to a place that has a darker night sky, you might be able to see a glowing band
13:07that stretches across the sky.
13:09That's our Milky Way galaxy, and that band is actually an enormous collection of stars.
13:14So the next time it's a clear night, make sure you go outside and look up.
13:17There's always something to see in the night sky.
13:20Thanks, Amy. You can make your own science discoveries with Ready Jet Go games on the PBS Kids Games app.
13:28Start playing today!
13:36This is one small step for Mindy, and one giant leap for Stuffy Bear!
13:42Wow! I'm bouncing so high!
13:54Higher than my bounce house!
13:59This must be that low gravity thing you always talk about, Shawn.
14:04Yup, pretty cool, right?
14:06But, huh, no air. Guess that's why I need a helmet.
14:09I have to bring my own air to breathe here.
14:12Right!
14:13See, Stuffy? You're lucky you don't have to breathe.
14:16So, you don't need a helmet like I do.
14:22Is that the Earth?
14:24Yup! We're on the side of the moon that always faces the Earth.
14:28So it's always up there.
14:29Oh, my gosh! Hi, Earth!
14:31It's just like I dreamed it would be!
14:34Wow! But it looks so small!
14:37Weird, huh?
14:38I get a little nervous if I think about it being this far from home.
14:42Yeah, it's really different to see Earth from somewhere else.
14:45Now you know how every astronaut feels.
14:48From the moon, the Earth looks small, too.
14:51Mm-hmm. It's all about perspective.
14:55I guess perspective means when you're far away, Earth looks like a little blue marble.
14:59But you know what I really want? To have a tea party on the moon!
15:03What a perfect way to celebrate your birthday!
15:11Whoa!
15:12And here's your Earth Day birthday tea set, Mindy!
15:15Goody!
15:16Thanks, you guys!
15:17Wow, Stuffy Bear!
15:18Everything on the moon is so strange and different!
15:22No air to breathe!
15:24But at least we're having my birthday tea party!
15:27That's the one thing that would be the same as on Earth!
15:30Or will it?
15:32Why, thank you, Sunspot! I would like some tea!
15:39My tea gun!
15:41Huh?
15:42It fell kind of slowly and just bounced and didn't break!
15:48What's going on, Sean?
15:50Remember how low gravity means you can bounce really high?
15:54It also means that something falls.
15:56It falls really slow!
15:58Wow!
15:59We're really not on Earth anymore!
16:05What happened to the tea?
16:08Huh?
16:09Looks like on the moon, liquid water...
16:12Or liquid tea...
16:13Becomes something else entirely!
16:15Ooh!
16:17Makes a kind of icy steam!
16:20Wow!
16:21Why does it do that?
16:23Well, on Earth, water can stay liquid.
16:26But on the moon, where it's super cold and there's not enough air, this happens!
16:31Wow!
16:36So, I guess we're having ice tea?
16:40Oh, yeah!
16:41There's no air on the moon!
16:43So, I need this helmet!
16:45Yeah!
16:46Even if we could get the tea to stay liquid in the cups, we couldn't hold them up to our mouths and drink!
16:51We need helmets to breathe!
16:53Even Bordronians do!
16:56Wow!
16:57Back on Earth, if I wanted to go outside, I wouldn't need a spacesuit or a helmet!
17:02Or anything!
17:03Space is just completely different from Earth!
17:07I totally agree, Mindy!
17:09Earth is sweet Earth, I always say!
17:11You're right, Shawn!
17:12Our planet is the sweetest!
17:18So, I guess you wanna go back and we'll finish your birthday at home?
17:22Are you kidding?!
17:23We just got here!
17:25Let's explore!
17:26Yes!
17:27That's the spirit, Mindy!
17:29I wanna be a space explorer like you and Jet and Shawn and Sunspot!
17:35A kid's place is exploring space!
17:39So, let's explore the moon!
17:41It's kinda like digging in our own sandbox!
17:53Awesome, Spot!
17:54Except much, much bigger!
17:56Plus, we're on the moon!
17:59Whee!
18:02Wow!
18:03A real moon rock!
18:05Thanks, Sunspot!
18:08Hey, Mindy!
18:09How about a little game of moon basketball?
18:12Okay!
18:13Where's the ball?
18:16Um...
18:19But where's the hoop?
18:20Oh-ho-ho!
18:21One moon basketball hoop coming up!
18:26Whoa!
18:34Woo-hoo!
18:35Go, Sunspot!
18:37Oh!
18:38Ahem!
18:39Oh, no thanks, Jet.
18:40I may be five years old, but I'm still the smallest kid.
18:44I can't jump high enough to play basketball.
18:48Did you forget where you are?
18:49It's way lower gravity here.
18:51You can jump really high!
18:53Go ahead!
18:54Take a shot!
18:58That's one small step on Earth.
19:01One giant leap!
19:03On the moon!
19:06Whee!
19:07On the moon!
19:08Yeah, Woohoo!
19:10Yeah!
19:13Yeah!
19:14Woohoo!
19:16Yeah, woohoo!
19:18Oh!
19:20Oh!
19:22Oh ho...
19:24Yeah!
19:29I'm five. I can dunk.
19:38Oh, no.
19:40Wow, what a birthday.
19:42I dunked a basketball and had a nice tea party.
19:46On the moon!
19:48Think how different everything was because you were in space.
19:51Yeah, and did I mention that space is big?
19:55It's huge!
19:56Wait, Merck.
19:57Space is so cool.
20:01So, I guess you've seen enough space for now, right?
20:04Time to head back to Earth, sweet Earth?
20:07Are you kidding?
20:08You're barely gone past Earth.
20:10I want to go check out some planets.
20:12Wait, what?
20:13I've only got the moon sticker on my helmet, Sean.
20:17What about those outer planets?
20:19The gas giants?
20:20But I don't...
20:22Like Jupiter or Saturn with all those rings.
20:26And who could forget dear little frozen Pluto?
20:31Oh, sure, Pluto.
20:33It's only three billion miles away.
20:36It took a spacecraft nine years to get there.
20:39Oh, Sean.
20:40Oh, Sean.
20:41With Ninja Steller Overdrive, we'll be there in nine minutes.
20:46Oh, what a space trooper you are, Mindy.
20:50Oh, just a wonderful Earth child.
20:53Little frozen Pluto, here we come.
20:56Freeze, Sean.
20:57Freeze.
20:58Jupiter's enormous Saturn's got a lot of rings.
21:10Uranus spins on its side and through his Neptune thing.
21:14Then one dwarf planet spins way out apart.
21:18Away from all the others, little Pluto with a frozen heart.
21:24Yay, dear little frozen Pluto.
21:29I can see its big old frozen heart.
21:32Yep, that's the Tombog Reggio.
21:34The Tomboy Radio?
21:36Tombog Reggio.
21:38Right.
21:39Celery, can we please land on Pluto's surface on the Tombog, whatever it is,
21:44and maybe skate around a little?
21:46Oh, ice skating on the Tombog Reggio?
21:48Here we go.
21:50Excelsior!
21:51Pluto!
22:01Wow, I can't believe how dark and cold and, I don't know, breezy it is here?
22:10Whoa!
22:16Dear little frozen Pluto,
22:19I really think you're cute, though.
22:23I know you are no longer planet night.
22:26You orbit all around this heart of mine.
22:30You're living with a freezing but delight.
22:35Please be my Valentine.
22:39Whoa!
22:39Whoa!
22:39Whoa!
22:39Whoa!
22:40Whoa!
22:40Whoa!
22:41Whoa!
22:41Whoa!
22:41Whoa!
22:41Whoa!
22:42Whoa!
22:42Whoa!
22:43Whoa!
22:43Whoa!
22:44Whoa!
22:44Whoa!
22:45Whoa!
22:46Whoa!
22:47Whoa!
22:48Whoa!
22:49And Uranus.
22:50And Neptune.
22:51And Pluto.
22:52And Pluto.
22:53Wow!
22:54And on your very first day in space!
22:56Oh!
22:57Planet Earth coming up!
22:58Aw!
22:59I've already got that sticker!
23:01Look, Mindy!
23:02That's where home is!
23:03Once you see Earth from up here, you never forget it.
23:07Trust me.
23:08Yep!
23:09You should know, Shanzo.
23:10He's an old veteran space traveler now.
23:11What was that?
23:12Hey, Mitchell!
23:13I'm back from the moon!
23:14Come on, Mindy.
23:15You didn't go to the moon.
23:16Sure I did.
23:17Here's a moon rock to prove it.
23:18It's just a regular rock.
23:19Like all these other rocks.
23:20Or is it?
23:21Would you quit doing that?
23:22Or is it?
23:23Would you quit doing that?
23:24Anyways, this is just a perfectly ordinary Earth rock.
23:25Ah, poor Earthy Mitchell.
23:26He doesn't believe.
23:27Well, thanks so much, you guys.
23:28That was the best birthday ever.
23:29I'm back from the moon.
23:30I'm back from the moon.
23:31I'm back from the moon.
23:32Come on, Mindy.
23:33You didn't go to the moon.
23:34Sure I did.
23:35Here's a moon rock to prove it.
23:36It's just a regular rock.
23:37Like all these other rocks.
23:38Or is it?
23:39Would you quit doing that?
23:40Anyways, this is just a perfectly ordinary Earth rock.
23:45Ah, poor Earthy Mitchell.
23:47He doesn't believe.
23:48Well, thanks so much, you guys.
23:51That was the best birthday ever.
23:54Bye!
23:55Cause...
23:57My name is Mindy.
23:59And oh, by the way,
24:01I'm finally five years old...
24:05Today!
24:10Hmm...
24:11Just in case.
24:18Good night, Sunspot.
24:20Good night, you guys.
24:22Good night, space.
24:26Good night, moon.
24:30On a normal warm day on Earth,
24:32a racquetball like this just bounces.
24:36But what if I could take this racquetball to Pluto?
24:39Hi.
24:40I'm astronomer Amy Meinzer.
24:41And today, we're gonna have some fun with temperature.
24:44I've got a way to change the temperature
24:46to make it colder than any place on Earth.
24:48Even your freezer.
24:50But first, I gotta put on some very special protective gear.
24:53And definitely do not try this at home.
24:57This bowl has ultra-cold liquid nitrogen in it.
24:59Let's see what happens when we drop this racquetball in.
25:04Watch this.
25:05Wow, what happened?
25:17By soaking the little racquetball in liquid nitrogen,
25:19we made it so cold that it basically shattered like a piece of glass
25:23when I hit it with the hammer.
25:24That wouldn't happen if the racquetball was warm.
25:26But by lowering its temperature, we can make it very, very brittle.
25:31But there's one last little thing I want to try
25:34since we've got all this liquid nitrogen here.
25:36The flour froze because it contains a lot of water.
25:47And liquid nitrogen is so cold that it freezes water instantly,
25:51making the flour brittle as an ice cube.
25:53So the next time you see a rose, just remember,
25:56if it's at a low enough temperature,
25:58it can shatter like glass.
