00:00Israeli forces bombarding a town in southern Lebanon. The same day, this ad appeared online
00:24and went viral. It's time for a home in Lebanon, it reads, apartments for reserve officers
00:31starting at 300,000 shekels. Now, the ad is fake. It is a provocation by a small group called Yuri
00:40Tzafon on the fringe of Israeli politics, calling for the construction of Israeli settlements inside
00:46Lebanon. Now, the group is small, but experts say they are part of a radical settler movement that
00:52often ends up having a strong pull on Israeli politics. The group's name, Yuri Tzafon, comes
00:58from a biblical verse which means, Awaken, O North.
01:09Since Hamas's attack on southern Israel a year ago, in the north there have been regular exchanges
01:16of fire between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah based in southern Lebanon.
01:22We spoke to one of their spokespeople.
01:24There's no actual other way of bringing peace and security to our northern border other than
01:33the settlement of Israeli Jews and other Israelis, I guess, in the southern parts of Lebanon when
01:40eventually they will be conquered by the IDF, a thing which, according to different sources,
01:45is happening at the moment.
01:48Now, just a dozen families attended the group's first demonstration in April.
01:56In June, they sent balloons and a drone into southern Lebanon with a message, warning, this
02:05is Israeli territory which belongs to the Jews, evacuate immediately.
02:11We believe that different parts of Lebanon belong to the land of Israel, to the biblical
02:15land of Israel.
02:16Southern Lebanon was the ancient homeland of the Asher and Naftali tribes of Israel, of
02:25the ancient Israelites.
02:26They have published a book for children.
02:28They have published a book for children.
02:42And a map giving Hebrew names for potential settlements in Lebanon.
02:47Now, Israel did occupy southern Lebanon from 1982 until 2000.
02:53But it was a military occupation.
02:57Unlike in Gaza, there were never any civilian settlements.
03:03And today, analysts like Yonatan Mizrahi say there's little chance any Israeli settlements
03:08will actually be built in Lebanon.
03:09I don't think there's an interest among the Israelis to deal with the aspects of settling
03:15in the south of Lebanon, or in Lebanon in general.
03:19I think it's a very small group today.
03:21I don't know what they will be tomorrow, but I'm saying today they are not even reaching
03:27the mainstream media.
03:29Even though some of the group's posts have gone viral, it only has a few hundred regular
03:34followers.
03:35They echo many of the arguments used by settlers for years in the West Bank.
03:40This is a discourse that is very popular among the settlers, which means we determined our
03:48borders because of God's promise or our historic rights in the land, first of all.
03:55And because settlement is a tool to create borders.
04:00Settlers in the West Bank have stepped up their activity since last October, expelling
04:054,500 Palestinians in 12 months.
04:14One group even staged a brief incursion into Gaza, saying settlements should be rebuilt there.
04:20We are in Gaza.
04:21We are in Gaza.
04:22We are in Gaza.
04:23We are in Gaza.
04:24We are in Gaza.
04:25We are in Gaza.
04:26We are in Gaza.
04:27We are in Gaza.
04:28We are in Gaza.
04:29We are in Gaza.
04:30A well-known West Bank settlers have given their support to Yuri Tsafon, like Daniella Weiss,
04:35who participated in a webinar they organized in June.
04:38What can you do is to learn and to pursue the process of Sebastian's relationship
04:45in Gaza in Lebanon.
04:49But experts point out that Lebanon is not the West Bank.
04:53First of all, Lebanon is a sovereign state, unlike Palestine.
04:56I mean, it's an occupied land, the West Bank.
04:59But everybody understands that it's mean to settle in a sovereign state is a bit different
05:03than settling in a land that at least is under, you know, is under a conflict.
05:10Israeli soldiers crossed into Lebanon in early October.
05:13One group of soldiers raised a flag in the Lebanese village of Maroun al-Ras.
05:19While Urid Tsafon called the flag a starting point for settlements,
05:23the U.S. reminded the Israeli army of its pledge not to stay in Lebanon.
05:28The Lebanese Health Ministry estimates that 2,300 people have been killed by Israeli attacks
05:33since last October.
05:35As of late September, 48 Israelis have been reported killed in the north.
05:40That is it for this week.
05:43As always, you can find more reports from our observers on our website,
05:45observers.france34.com.
05:47I'll see you next time.

06:16This is the champs.
06:17Yeah, this is the boat.
06:18What are they taking to the sea?
06:20We are losing identity with the modernisation and all that.
06:23So we have to know the history of Lamu so that we can get more tourists.
06:28150 years after its abolition,
06:31we retrace the history of slavery and slave trade on the Swahili coast.
