00:00It feels like you work your whole life to celebrate winning a tournament for like a few minutes.
00:06It only lasts a few minutes, that kind of euphoric feeling.
00:09And like to win the Byron Nelson Championship at home,
00:12I literally worked my entire life to become good at golf, to have an opportunity to win that tournament.
00:17And you win it, you celebrate, get to hug my family, my sisters there.
00:21It's such an amazing moment.
00:22And then it's like, okay, now what are we going to eat for dinner?
00:26You know, life goes on.
00:28Is it great to be able to win tournaments and to accomplish the things I have in the game of golf yet?
00:35I mean, it brings tears to my eyes just to think about because it's literally worked my entire life to become good at this sport.
00:41And to have that kind of sense of accomplishment, I think, is a pretty cool feeling.
00:46You know, to get to live out your dreams is very special.
00:48But at the end of the day, it's like, I'm not out here to inspire the next generation of golfers.
00:53I'm not here to inspire somebody else to be the best player in the world because what's the point?
00:57You know, this is not a fulfilling life.
01:01It's fulfilling from a sense of accomplishment, but it's not fulfilling from a sense of, like, the deepest, you know, places of your heart.
01:08You know, there's a lot of people that make it to what they thought was going to fulfill them in life.
01:13And then you get there, and all of a sudden you get to number one in the world, and then they're like, what's the point?
01:16And, you know, I really do believe that because, you know, what is the point?
01:21You're like, why do I want to win this tournament so bad?
01:23That's something that I wrestle with on a daily basis.
01:25It's like showing up at the Masters every year, it's like, why do I want to win this golf tournament so badly?
01:30Why do I want to win the Open Championship so badly?
01:33I don't know.
01:34Because if I win, it's going to be awesome for about two minutes.
01:38And then we're going to get to the next week, and it's going to be like, hey, you won two majors this year.
01:41How important is it for you to win the FedExCup playoffs?
01:43And it's just like, we're back here again, you know?
01:47So we really do.
01:47We work so hard for such little moments, and, you know, I'm kind of a sicko.
01:52I love putting in the work.
01:54I love being able to practice.
01:55I love getting out to live out my dreams.
01:56But at the end of the day, sometimes I just don't understand the point, you know, because I don't know if I'm making any sense or not, but am I not?
02:07It's just one of those deals, you know?
02:10I love the challenge.
02:11I love being able to play this game for a living.
02:13It's one of the greatest joys of my life, but does it fill the deepest, you know, wants and desires of my heart?
02:19Absolutely not.
02:21What do you like to play?
02:22I mean, I love playing golf.
02:24I love being able to compete.
02:25I love living out my dreams.
02:27I love being a father.
02:28I love being able to take care of my son.
02:30I love being able to provide for my family out here playing golf.
02:33And, you know, every day when I wake up early to go put in the work, you know, my wife thanks me for going out and working so hard.
02:40And when I get home, I try and thank her every day for taking care of our son.
02:43It's just, you know, that's why I talk about families being my priority because it really is.
02:47You know, I'm blessed to be able to come out here and play golf, but if my golf ever started affecting my home life or it ever affected the relationship I have with my wife or with my son, you know, that's going to be the last day that I play out here for a living.
02:58You know, this is not the be-all, end-all.
03:01This is not the most important thing in my life.
03:03And that's why I wrestle with why is this so important to me because, you know, I would much rather be a great father than I would be a great golfer.
03:09You know, at the end of the day, that's what's more important to me.
03:14But I think that's why I asked the question the way I did.
03:17What is losing like for you?
03:19It sucks.
03:21I hate it.
03:23I really do.
03:24You know, I...
03:24But that's part of the competition.
03:25That is, and I think that's why we try to work so hard to not lose.
03:30But golf's a game where you just lose a lot more often than you win.
03:33I mean, that's just a simple part of it.
03:35You know, in basketball or football, when there's only two guys out there, you can win a lot more than you lose.
03:40But I think I was looking at stats.
03:42It was one of the best tennis players.
03:44It might have been Federer or Djokovic or somebody.
03:46They only won like 48% of their points or something like that.
03:49I mean, playing professional sports is a really weird thing to do.
03:53Like, it really is, just because we put in so much effort.
03:58We work so hard for something that's so fleeting.
