00:00First it was Donald Sterling, now Steve Ballmer is the latest Clippers owner to take some heat.
00:05So according to a report by Pablo Torre, the Clippers and Ballmer are accused of paying Kawhi Leonard $28 million for a no-show job as a way to get around the NBA salary cap.
00:17And here's the details we know so far.
00:19So on Wednesday, Torre revealed the alleged scandal on his show and disclosed direct quotes from legal documents that alleged Leonard was paid the $28 million through a company owned by Ballmer to pretty much do nothing.
00:32Ballmer's accused of using the agreement as a way to pay Leonard more than his contract, which, if these allegations are true, is a direct violation of NBA rules.
00:42So here's the details on the allegations.
00:44Ballmer funded and owned a now bankrupt company called Aspiration, a tree planting service.
00:51Aspiration is accused of entering that $28 million legal agreement with KL2 Aspire LLC, a company owned by Leonard.
01:01A clause in one of the contract documents between Aspiration and KL2 Aspire LLC stated that Leonard could decline to proceed with any action desired by the company,
01:13which pretty much essentially gave him the ability to get paid without doing anything.
01:19Now, another clause in the docs stated that Leonard would only be paid if he remained a member of the Clippers.
01:26So payments from Aspiration to KL2 Aspire were sent to Dennis Robertson, Leonard's advisor,
01:33who was investigated by the NBA back in 2019 for asking for impermissible benefits, but they found no evidence on that one.
01:41Aspiration investors included a number of A-listers like Orlando Bloom, Robert Downey Jr., Doc Rivers, and Drake.
01:50So the Clippers have now fired back at the allegations, calling them false, and the entire situation is pretty much wild.
01:57So you better believe Torrey is going to continue to keep digging, and we'll keep you guys posted when more information is provided.
