00:01So why did she choose not to participate in the show?

00:04So back then, she really wanted to be a musician.

00:08And the kind of musician she wanted to be was like a Fiona Apple, like Mazzy Star,

00:15like this kind of obscure, mysterious, moody.

00:22And she deemed doing a show on MTV as like low-hanging fruit.

00:28And she was like, I'm not.

00:30I'm not going to be seen like riding coattails kind of thing.

00:35Like that's how she perceived it.

00:37And then once the show was hugely successful, I think she was kind of like,

00:43well, I can't now come on because I don't want to be seen even more as jumping on the bandwagon.

00:49And so she just kind of like dug her heels in and wanted to be relatively private and obscure.
