01:12Brady Bunch it was such a huge part of my childhood and inspired so much of my drag and I always loved
01:17the girls bedroom that had flowers everywhere I mean I love florals how do you feel about fake
01:21flowers I don't I'm not a big fake flower fan well they're not fake flowers they're actually faux
01:27flowers they're silk and some things that are artificial are actually very beautiful I mean
01:32I know that's true we are gonna have hand-painted murals and custom furniture next to original
01:40architecture and vintage items I think we're trying to do high and low very well and I think
01:46flowers is a way to ride that line perfectly instead of like trying to find ones that are like so
01:51trying to be real like they're kind of tacky on purpose I'm sure I don't know what you mean very
01:57on brand for the Trixie motel I gotta tell you I just love whatever this is this is a peonies it's so
02:04beautiful don't you think these are too like wedding for a funky 70s room I don't know let's find out

03:17and I've arranged a very special surprise for us today what is it well the motel has been so
03:23stressful I thought it would be nice to come back to LA and see something very specific that's inspiring
03:29this flower power room it's just around the corner right past this hedge hopefully I hate surprises
03:37is this real yeah this is amazing I know we get to go in time we do I have a very special guest

03:59looks different I've had some work done get in here come on in don't mind if I do the Brady house
04:06David this is the nicest thing you've ever done I literally bought you a motel and named it after
04:12you this is way better after you oh my god oh my god I can't believe it welcome to the Brady house
04:22do people cry when they come in here I met Oprah at a luncheon once and I felt nothing
04:27I walked into the Brady house and I feel like I saw the eyes of God yes oh my god go snuggle on the
04:40sofa oh my god this is do you believe it drew and I renovated the house we wanted it to be as
04:48authentic to the original Brady house as possible because this was the original facade of the Brady
04:54house the staircase oh this is so beautiful you guys walking back in time oh my gosh how does it feel to
05:03be on top of those steps it feels so good they never ever shot in this house right it was only the
05:09front facade so how do we put the studio the set inside the house well we actually dug down here
05:17a little bit to sink this down because we wanted to make sure that the most authentic part of it the
05:21stairs were accurate and so you'll notice that we've changed the perspective a little bit by adding
05:26one more step here so that that made more sense over there oh yeah because we're not street level
05:31we're like under right now which is authentic to the original show but we had to add one additional
05:36step here so we could actually make it work otherwise we would have been at the wrong level
05:39at the back right wow here we had to age everything so we put soot on the stone to make it look
05:45like it was you know from the 70s yeah like it's been used yeah and so we even had fans who when we
05:53were doing a very Brady renovation we put it out to everybody because this was a big deal we literally
05:58there were hundreds of people that would stand outside to see what was happening it was amazing that's
06:03how much people love this home people even sent in stuff like the lamps like the grapes these are
06:08actual pieces that were in the original show but had gone missing and people from across the country
06:14were like oh my gosh i have that lamp i'll donate it to you like i stole this in the 70s do you need it
06:19exactly it's unreal i would dive in and take you through and show you whatever you want right now but
06:24i figured it's too much house for me to do on my own so i brought somebody to help walk us through
06:28your brother no that would be too easy it's me oh my god oh hi wow when i told zoe that we were
06:39going to show trixie and david the Brady house she freaked out i said i have to be there
06:45there may have been screaming well squealing squealing squealing hi hi i'm trixie hi hi hi
06:57so she actually comes with the house i come with the house i love it i'm like alice it's so clean
07:04it's like no one lives here i'm not good seeing trixie in person is really amazing to see all the
07:10creativity that goes into the makeup the hair the outfit isn't this wild i mean it's amazing i was
07:17very starstruck starstruck from a building from the building yeah what was the inspiration that you
07:22were looking for because i heard the whole you have like a flower power yes space exactly there's a
07:28flower power room at the motel that's very 60s 70s inspired and one of the direct references was
07:34the brady girl's bedroom yes do you want to see it absolutely the girl's bedroom i just think is so
07:41beautiful it's amazing there's one thing we'll want to warn you though what keep in mind you're a lot
07:46bigger now than you probably were when you watched the show as a kid um so so you're saying i'm fat
07:53wow the beds are really tiny it's kind of weird yeah well there's also some creepy art in the boys
08:01room but i'll let you figure out what that is it's like clown stuff follow up
08:06wow oh my god this is crazy is this barbie dream house or what wow kitty carryall the little
08:20notepad says dear davy won't you sing at my school of marsha i've spent so much time in the brady
08:27girl's bedroom through the tv screen but being able to be in here and soak up the details in person
08:33it's very inspiring did you guys have to hand make this wallpaper like yeah big hand draw it
08:39the sheets as well so we printed the sheets we printed the wallpaper well we're printing some
08:44matching linens and wallpapers at trixie motel and i know that it's definitely a process especially
08:48when it comes to getting the scale correct yeah yeah yeah whoa this wallpaper is really amazing
08:54whoa oh cool this just makes me feel like we really are onto something with our motel i mean people
08:59will walk into the motel and feel this it's the nostalgia vibe that we're trying to recreate
09:04in a whole new space you're not trying to just create a visual impression you're trying to create
09:09a feeling if i was a little boy and this was my room and my sister's rooms look like that i would
09:16have problems i would be so envious wow i think this is the coolest room we're standing in the brady
09:25kitchen i know it's wild this space feels so magical i think it's just really encouraged us to like go
09:32big i never thought i'd be teeter-tottering with trixie but dream come true i'm never going to stop
09:38talking about this you're welcome thank you you're so good to me i know and if you ever aren't
09:46what do you think you you turned around you look i mean this was a huge project this was one of the
09:52biggest projects i've ever done and it turned out so fun so amazing but even more fun for me is being
09:59able to show people through yeah what do you think well we still have to talk to our realtor but

10:10me that you are very into close-up magic yeah and i feel like this is close-up magic this house is
10:17close-up magic well and totally coincidental that you say that because there was an episode of the
10:22brady bunch where bobby was performing right here on the mantle and i remember when we were putting it
10:28together me being a comedian too i remember thinking to myself like oh my gosh like yeah we this was like
10:33magic creating this and then all of a sudden now i'm picturing what i saw growing up so yeah it all
10:39comes full circle and as a drag queen i specialize in faraway magic smoky room half drunk magic you know
10:47vaseline on the lens yeah this is a magical experience today just seeing this in person
10:52was like emotional and like it was just it's surreal i used to binge watch the marathons of the brady
10:59bunch and it was like where i was watching a perfect family it was like impossible but like
11:06right there in front of me and i guess brady bunch really made me feel like when i grow up i'm gonna have
11:11the family i wanted and then with drag i mean also i got the career i wanted and
11:17brady bunch was a big part of that for me knowing how much the brady connection means to you and knowing
11:25how amazing this property is that you're working on i hope this was a little bit of positive
11:31inspiration for you this place and what we're creating in the motel is about nostalgia even
11:37though it's new spaces but pulling the references from the 60s and the 70s and the color palettes
11:43and the designs i think it will feel as magical as something like this does the idea of a drag queen
11:49especially tricksy opening up a motel is like everything i never knew that i wanted or needed
11:56but that i did in my heart and now it's happening nobody's ever opened a motel after a drag queen
12:03that's like fully themed and crazy i mean we get so stressed out about this we try to cut ourselves
12:08slack because i'm like nobody does this it gets so hairy it's hard to see what we're doing sometimes but
12:12it's gonna be amazing it is they're learning how much work it is to do a renovation especially a
12:19commercial space they bought this motel and they had all these great ideas and now they're realizing
12:24how much work it is you have to realize that there's always going to be something unexpected
12:28that pops up something usually expensive honestly look at the end goal yeah it's going to be so worth it
12:35and and you said it yourself this isn't just a cool motel and a great place to stay you're creating
12:42a whole experience for anyone who comes and stays there and i think it's going to mean a lot more
12:47to people than you think yeah well if you guys come to ps please say you'll stay with us
12:51of course okay good and we might need you to do some renovation by then just in case i'll bring my tools
12:55after being in the brady house what we're doing at the motel seems almost normal i want the guests
13:17to feel like i did when i walked into the brady house i felt overjoyed it felt magical and i felt
13:22like i never wanted to leave danny's really got her work cut out for her because mama i am ready
13:26to serve up some flower power so flower power this room i was just thinking how vibey can we go i mean
13:37like flowers and beaded curtains and like a lava lamp and like i mean it's just so specific
13:43what if we even did like a multi-color bed something floral i'm like loving this custom
13:51everything let's do custom let's spend millions of dollars big headboard some sort of flower like
13:58a daisy or i mean that's like the most kind of 70s motif i would love classic maybe like the leaves
14:04are different colors maybe they're all the colors in the room maybe we do like a larger scale
14:10wallpaper behind it custom to match the bed and the colors of the room i think let's keep going with
14:16our mural on the wall trend that's been amazing it's the flower power room like maybe we have like
14:21flowers here flowers there flowers everywhere what if we even took some of those flower elements from
14:28the wallpaper and did custom tile in here so it was all cohesive flower over power but like matching
14:37each other so when you make a print like this you can put it right on tile yeah there's a million
14:42different ways to do it that is crazy the process is fascinating like i've been designing for
14:47over 10 years now and i'm still like amazed every time i get a new sample and it feels like chris this
14:52morning it just feels like people maybe used to have to look for things but now the contemporary
14:58designers like yeah we're just gonna make it yeah no we shouldn't do any searching we should do
15:03everything just custom made for you wow all right so here i have some fun color swatches that we were
15:10talking about doing greens yellows oranges pink love this part truth it's beautiful i have a print
15:17here from you today what do you think of it i think that this piece of fabric has a nice long
15:22healthy life as a dinner napkin and not as a wallpaper but i would love something a little more true
15:30retro maybe some daisies something that just really reads flower power maybe we like make it a little more
15:38simple like a 70s dollhouse 70s dollhouse i mean that's like right on the money let's design some
15:4470s dollhouse wallpaper you ready for this flower power this has to be the most colorful room yet we'll
15:54go big with the daisies on the brick wall like a doll's house but this doll has definitely smoked something
16:01but the biggest flower ball will be the headboard love in or check out baby behind the bed you guessed
16:08it more flowers i want it to look like a vibrant kaleidoscope dizzying finish it off with some accents
16:16and pink and white for a little pop flower power too much just right i'm ready for this room to look
16:24different a demolition is an order all right i was excited to renovate this motel and now i'm actually
16:36sad that we're dwindling down on things i'm allowed to break okay it's just as ugly as we left it once we
16:43put in all this new equipment and new decor everybody's gonna be like don't smash that with a hammer
16:49we need that a little concerning there look at this exposed wire over here so we knew the electrical
16:56would be challenging but um we're finding just some weird weird things this electrical is a mess
17:05they can already tell that there's not even enough light so it just wait what the where would you even
17:11turn on a switch i don't know i just work here a plug that's live connected to like an extender
17:18connected to a light that's just stuck on the wall using tape i don't know the good news is whatever
17:25we do for the electrical it's going to be an elevation from what it is let's start less dangerous
17:30and work our way toward death brandon i know that working for me at times is not that easy
17:41i know that it can be quite difficult oh my god strong man at the carnival and so i have something i want
17:49you to be able to smash one two three watch yourself brian well brandon has a very stressful work
18:04environment he works for somebody who's very demanding very specific so it's nice to be able
18:09to give him this outlet to uh express himself who hurt you who didn't cheers to a great day of demo
18:24well i'm glad brandon had fun i might let him do this again rio's crew is at it now it's out with
18:30the old appliances fixtures and wood paneling and in with the new drywall so we have a fresh space from
18:36the bathroom all the way to the kitchenette the flower power room is a throwback to the 70s which
18:47gives us the perfect opportunity to hit up all the incredible vintage stores they have in palm springs
19:06i feel like i've got the swing of renovating this motel but in nine short weeks we'll have living
19:11breathing guests here and i don't know anything about maintaining a motel luckily i have a friend
19:16who can teach me the ins and outs of this sort of thing where is icky hello hi hello what are you

21:26the internet all right so the first thing that you legitimately have to do when you get into a hotel
21:31room so that you don't forget is you have to check for a dildo oh just like at home yes go around and
21:37check every drawer any place that someone could hide a dildo this is fine is it i just need to make
21:47sure that she really knows what she's in for so let's get trashing yeah we need to replicate what
21:53you'd be walking into okay okay first we take the lampshades off because for some reason they're never on
21:59what they're never on why what are people doing i don't know they need better lighting yeah the bed
22:05gets slept in this will be fully pulled back people are in here like gross yeah so in here the cushions
22:16will always be off oh my god it's a thing trust nobody is considerate what you know i haven't seen you
22:26cleaned a room yet but you're really good at trashing a room i'm a professional at it trixie
22:31do rap people ruin hotel rooms they do but honestly i think the pop stars are far worse i think
22:36the only thing worse than a pop star is a drag queen us women always gluing all over ourselves
22:41and then scrubbing it off afterwards every hotel that i stay in the bath is just full of glue when
22:47i leave if you want women to look good be okay with the fact that we ruin towels and glue everything
22:52to our body okay okay looks trash it does but i still need you to show me how to clean this sucker
22:59so you're gonna come down here you pick up your mattress you fold it down on the right uh-huh and
23:06then as you come to sweep through here we grab it we make a corner here it's it's odd and latex
23:13what really nice i tuck her in it has to have a straight corner okay let me try oh i think i did it
23:24oh my god it looks fantastic let's talk about my motel there's seven rooms a check-in the lobby
23:30yep what's that staff need to look like how big two so those people have days off no they work together
23:36so maybe four they work on and off but two working at the same time on a room should be able to get a
23:43room done in 25 minutes okay work so where are the two girls we just did our corner folds now we have
23:50to fluff the pillows you have to make sure that they're evenly spaced and that the corners are up
23:56really yes my instincts are really developing the second i saw that stain i said just flip it over
24:01so much can be hidden just by simply folding things pull it up here like this karate chop time
24:06karate chop her down bring her back here all the way back because we have to fold her under i'm like
24:12a black belt already bitch this is crazy and if you're just doing like a little touch-up while the
24:18person's out check how many makeup brushes they have maybe there's something you can take an eyeliner
24:24a bikini bottom just something do you ever find money i wouldn't steal money but that's wrong but
24:30people's personal belongings are fine but those things cost money but if they have 12 makeup brushes
24:36they're not going to miss one when we lose things i like the way you think you know why they lose
24:40things because cleaning staff takes it now we have to do the top sheet okay which we didn't change
24:48great this one first we get a little bit of chanel number five and spray that on the top and
24:53they'll think it's clean i can't i really can't picture you doing this this is neither it doesn't
25:01really fit with my brand in a way though this is easier than performing true you're not wrong it is
25:06the stakes are definitely higher in a way so here we have to tuck in the bottoms again what
25:12so what you want to do when you've got this is you want to make sure that this is right blush with it
25:17because you don't want to have to tuck under a big clunky thing right put her down chopping again
25:23we're chopping and then pulling it all the way out right

26:46would think that we changed the sheets you know i think it looks really good i'll admit that this
26:52doesn't look great but i think that this looks really good i think trixie's motel is going to be
26:57fabulous but i don't know if she's ready for how the guests really are girl as these rooms get finished
27:03our motel is so beautiful if anybody breaks anything i'll die kill them you run into broken
27:09things a lot yes shit's just getting trashed on the regular people act so gross when they think
27:15they can be anonymous and away from her this looks pretty good yeah i would sleep in here i think we
27:21did a excellent job i think we did too just get the wet towels from where people have already cleaned

27:32telling you this is how they do it so you just do this and this is when you're exiting the room

29:02a really busy couple of weeks coming up as usual you have the trixie doll coming out then we're
29:08gonna also have to have you getting ready for the tour with katya there'll be rehearsals there'll be
29:14choreography there's the finishing touches on the album we're gonna have to do press yeah the tv show
29:19i just filmed there's gonna be a ton of press uh you also have engagements in boston in milwaukee
29:28and then there's still my regular series we're still in season six of uh exactly right the digital
29:33series with netflix as much as you want to be at the motel there's a ton of other projects that need
29:38your energy just as much but you know what though brandon the only reason we can open this motel
29:42is because of years of doing exactly this there's drag queens and there's trixie mattel and we're
29:46continuing to add up so you got to keep running but you know like normal celebrities are like i've
29:51been so busy and all they're doing is like a shoe collaboration and getting pregnant
29:57bitch i could get pregnant i get that it's hard but you're really doing it well yeah well with all
30:02this stuff going on a lot of this is going to fall on david because he has to kind of be everywhere
30:09when i'm not there and it's like i've always said this project will break you up
30:12it's a little bit nerve-wracking to do this with david but i mean david made the documentary
30:19about me a few years ago and i think that built a lot of trust but he's also like a realist he's also
30:28uh he believes in me but he'll also just flat out tell me to my face like uh wasn't your best show or
30:35what's best about your dynamic is that you keep people around you that keep you honest and won't
30:42just yes man you i mean i couldn't do this without you either it's like i said when i first saw you
30:49performing that i loved you we loved you and we knew the world would love you and it's obvious and it's
30:56been proven time after time and here we are if i stay booked and blessed the motel will be booked and
31:04blessed down the road mama keep a book blessed but not busted one of the many joys of updating a 70
31:17year old property all of our pool equipment needs to be replaced it's a huge production and honestly
31:24a good thing we haven't started on the pool deck yet because now there's a huge hole in it
31:29more money being spent on something you can't see but the guests will be swimming in a warm pool which
31:33is important back in the flower power room we've got our base color up the room is feeling fresh and
31:39bright and ready for flowers to take shape i'm jumping in to help danny and philip with the mural for this
31:45room trixie's done a few of these so it's time for me to get my hands dirty we've simplified the
31:51murals throughout the rooms but they're still so impactful i love this wall
31:55danny and philip are a great team and as an engaged couple they're the perfect people to be helping
32:06with the design of the honeymoon suite while we've been able to do a lot of the cosmetic work for the
32:11motel for the honeymoon suite the lobby we're looking at taking down walls and that kind of
32:16structural work requires permits we've applied to the city and we haven't gotten the go-ahead yet but
32:23i need danny to get ahead on the designs so when we get the permits we can start so the reason i
32:27wanted to bring you both in here today is because this is going to be the honeymoon suite and not
32:33just the honeymoon suite but it's going to be the oh honey moon suite of course it is of course right
32:41i have made a lot of money saying oh honey over the years and it's never stirred me wrong so i think
32:46it'd be fun to make a beautiful lavish honeymoon suite out of this room as a recently engaged couple um
32:52sounds awesome this is an amazing room to stay in for a honeymoon in fact philip and i almost got
32:58engaged here at this motel before any of this even happened i knew philip was going to propose to me
33:05my 30th birthday because i'm a sleuth and i tried to book this space i want the pink backdrop i want the
33:11mountains and this is where i want to be proposed to and get a cute picture i reached out to the
33:15previous owner and she's like after 20 years i just sold the motel and my dreams were crushed
33:22was this kind of perfect for me because we need to design this space for newlyweds
33:26if you were going to stay here for like your honeymoon what would you want i definitely need
33:29to open it up a bit i mean we don't need two clauses you're not going to need a lot of clothes
33:34on your honeymoon i even picture like a banquette against this wall a space where you can chill
33:40i mean me and philip love to have drinks together especially when we're on vacation first thing we're
33:44doing is like making a drink felt bartended for years if we can move this back this will be the
33:50biggest room it's also going to cost the most so i think this should know wedding planning is so
33:56expensive yeah we're looking to gouge people at a time where they're most vulnerable when you hold
34:02honey up to the light it's like almost amber yeah i mean we could even do like a beautiful like golden
34:08cognac-y brown i think flowers obviously um it's been a theme throughout the motel it has a lot to do
34:15with bees pollinating yeah like we need people pollinating in this room oh i didn't think of it
34:21that way but what if the first thing you see when you walk in is a channel toughening in yellow that
34:28looks like the outside of a honeycomb like think about like cartoon illustrations of like hives
34:33this is dismal we're currently expecting couples to come in here and spend time together
34:43barely fit one person even see if you can get in here with me
34:48see it's not a bad thing does that feel romantic no that's not sexy is this better two shower heads
34:55would be nice yes double shower head does that mean that that wall will go that way

35:57size of this motel makes it perfect for weddings so having danny and philip test drive it for us makes
36:03a lot of sense on the other hand offering to host a wedding for your friends before the motel is totally
36:08renovated without the proper permits some might say might add stress but you know what they say pressure
36:14creates diamonds just don't tell david but what a dream come true to get married at the trixie motel
36:21that i helped design that escalated quickly but i can't wait it's gonna be amazing

38:43so this arrangement's gonna go in the flower power room okay they kind of went big when i do floral
38:48design i like to use a lot of bright colors a lot of things that might seem initially jarring that
38:52don't fit together what's great about these is you can manipulate them they're all built with
38:57wires inside of them really so i can change the direction of things yes see if you do that to a
39:03real flower no it's over it's over yeah so you can sort of make them do what you want just like that
39:09we've got some great options here uh you've also got some wonderful things right here that you picked
39:14up for us so i think we can make something beautiful for you today let me start okay

39:21this is what we would call like a face flower because you're getting the face of the flower
39:28while there's others which are more filler okay got it are you familiar i am the distinction
39:36very familiar some people are just there to take up space we're gonna try and get this a little bit
39:41bigger so sometimes what i like to do is when i'm starting if i'm gonna say all right this is my height
39:46that i'm trying to get to maybe i'll go like that so i go okay i now need to fill in everything in
39:54between so i sort of have a goal post yeah because now it looks like this is where we started this is
40:00where we're going exactly and then everything else happened exactly and this is what we would call a
40:04gesture is this real it's all real it's you know it's already it's the gayest job you guys don't have to
40:10like add flourish this is a face spiller and a gesture we're going to fill in this area a little
40:15bit with a few more of these we just want to go in is there a right answer no that's the thing with
40:22flowers there's no like right or wrong way you're working a lot with like color theory so you want
40:27to have things look like they go together but already this palette works good because we started
40:32painting so i'm glad to know that these colors work okay i see the value in making them like um
40:40little color clusters yes it starts to get really chaotic yeah otherwise if it's like pink yellow purple
40:46pink yellow it just feels a little polka dotty sometimes um and also i think with what you have
40:52going on because i've seen some of the images from your room now it's like it it feels like there are
40:56pops of color but it all sort of cohesively comes together well danny's not really afraid of color
41:03but she is afraid of faux flowers so we kind of have a point to prove here i would love for her to be
41:08wrong for once let's do it she's been right about everything rub it in her face we got to knock her
41:13off her high horse a little bit but the reality is faux flowers have a bad rap i don't always react
41:18well to them but i think if they're done appropriately and also the setting like cues in something i feel like
41:24there is a tad of like faux to the aesthetic of this room a tad a tad okay i'm trying to be polite
41:32um you know so there's nothing wrong with having something that feels a little bit plastic
41:36that's sort of the vibe it's definitely the vibe i've put clothes on my back for 15 years pretending
41:41to be a lot plastic so i think it's okay these are people who love drag they're not going to be
41:46offended by fake as long as it's beautiful i love that stunning this is nice

42:01mr cobra lily i think you've outdone yourself i couldn't have done this without you this is
42:06going to really explode the room with some color and some fun energy
42:13i am loving these vinyl tiles i definitely want to do a checkered pattern but i'm sort of experimenting
42:19between doing a smaller scale and a larger scale checker as a print designer i know that scale is
42:26everything when it comes to patterns right now i'm kind of leaning towards the larger print i think it's
42:30a little more bold and it's going to fit the room really well this is my favorite part of the process
42:41we're just days away from trixie seeing the room the custom tile backsplash is going up more beautiful
42:47terrazzo countertops are being installed and custom stained glass in the shower never gets old
42:53and found some amazing furniture that really pops trixie is going to love it
43:08i hope it smells good
43:11we're just getting our momentum if this room flops i'm going to feel like oh god
43:15now i'm eating i'm stressed eating this is 180 calories somebody's gonna pay for this
