00:00Project 76 SSK, Strengthening Indian Navy's Coastal Defense
00:04The Indian Navy is launching a new Project 76 SSK submarine program,
00:10following the earlier Project 75 and Project 75I initiatives.
00:15It will feature larger and more advanced submarines with cutting-edge indigenous technologies.
00:21These new diesel-electric attack submarines are expected to have a displacement of over 2,500 tons,
00:27significantly larger than previous models.
00:30A major technological highlight is the DRDO-developed Air Independent Propulsion system,
00:36allowing submarines to stay submerged for over two weeks without surfacing.
00:41The submarines are expected to feature cruise missile systems, including BrahMos and BrahMos-NG,
00:47possibly launched through Vertical Launch Systems, VLS.
00:51The project aims to enhance self-reliance at Minerva Barrett
00:54by increasing domestic production and reducing dependence on foreign technology.
01:00This comes as India seeks to expand its submarine fleet,
01:03which currently has 16 operational submarines against the sanctioned strength of 24,
01:08amid rising undersea activity in the Indian Ocean region.
01:11The Warship Design Bureau of the Indian Navy, along with DRDO and private firms like Larson and Tubro,
01:17are working on the initial design phase.
01:19The first submarine under Project 76 is expected to begin construction around 2030.
