00:01is the story of spring training

00:02in the Mariners camp 19 years

00:05old.

00:06He and his father formed the only

00:07two father son combinations that

00:10have ever been on major league

00:12rosters the same day.

00:14And Griffey goes after the first

00:15pitch fouling it off Ray I

00:16noticed in checking his

00:18background this young kid was

00:20chosen as the number one major

00:22league prospect in both minor

00:24leagues in which he played last

00:26year.

00:30He's driving the left center

00:31field and he really hit it.

00:34Ken Griffey Junior has an extra

00:36base hit on his first at bat in

00:37the major leagues.

00:39Well it doesn't take him long to

00:40show the big league guys that he

00:42can swing the bat here to the

00:44Jim and the fever during batting

00:45practice was telling him to hit

00:46the ball on the ground because

00:47he was popping up a lot of

00:49pitches but that one was away

00:50from Griffey and he went with it

00:53and exactly the way you're

00:54supposed to and he went with it

00:55to left center where nobody was

00:57good power.

00:58They just threw that ball back

00:59over to the Mariners dugout and

01:01that will be a keepsake for the

01:02Griffey family and I have a

01:03feeling that's just the first of

01:04many hits for him.
