00:00A horrific fire ripped through the remote Adisto Beach home of a South Carolina judge
00:18on Saturday, leaving three people injured, including her ex-senator husband, who suffered
00:24broken bones after being forced to jump from the first floor to escape the blaze.
00:29Circuit Court Judge Diana Goodstein had been walking on a beach with her dogs when flames
00:34swallowed the home in the lush Jeremy K. private-gated community around midday.
00:40As plumes of black smoke were sent into the air and the fire engulfed the home, her husband,
00:45former state senator Arnold Goodstein, was trapped inside.
00:49Sources close to Goodstein's family confirmed Arnold was airlifted after breaking multiple
00:54bones in his hips, legs, and feet after escaping from the four-bedroom, four-bathroom home,
00:59according to Fitznews.
01:01Two additional occupants were also reportedly rescued by several neighbors and paramedics
01:06from a marshy, remote area behind the three-story home.
01:10Their identities have not been released.
01:12According to the St. Paul's Fire District, Arnold and two other individuals were reached
01:16by emergency workers in kayaks before they were hospitalized.
01:21Diana Goodstein, a South Carolina native, was elected to her first judgeship in May 1998.
01:26The 69-year-old has served continuously ever since, according to her biography.
01:31Her husband, Arnold Goodstein, reportedly served in the House and the South Carolina Senate in
01:36the 1970s as a Democrat representing Charleston County.
01:40He also led Somerville Homes, a large home-building business that ceased operations in 2008 and
01:46filed for a $61 million bankruptcy, the outlet said.
01:50The state law enforcement division is reportedly investigating the fire at the couple's home,
01:54though it is not yet clear what caused the large property to burn to the ground.
