00:00Brendan Liao is with us from Vancouver. He's a recent graduate and therefore I
00:03assume that's why you're also a stay-at-home son. That is correct. Professional
00:06stay-at-home son. Pretty good gig if you can get it. It's a pretty good gig but
00:10I'm worried I'm gonna be called a loiter at some point. What is a stay-at-home son?
00:15Welcome to Weird But True, your home for the buzziest and strangest stories from
00:20The Post. You may recognize Jeopardy! champ Brandon Liao. Back in May the
00:24recent college grad admitted to the millions of viewers watching at home
00:27that he happily mooches off his parents. Brendan walked away with viral fame and
00:32over $59,000 in game show winnings. Not too shabby for a guy who doesn't have to pay
00:38rent. It turns out he's not alone. A growing number of men are taking on the
00:42traditional roles that a stay-at-home wife might do. From cooking, to cleaning, to
00:46running errands. Except it's all for their mum and dad. We've certainly come a long
00:51way since Michael Keaton starred in the 1983 comedy Mr. Mom.
00:55Where does Bobby keep the extra diapers? Hey! Cowards. Four decades later this new
01:05role has been dubbed Trad Son. A twist on the popular trad wives of TikTok who
01:10embrace homemade everything. But before you jump to any judgmental conclusions, the
01:15New York Post spoke exclusively with one of these guys to find out more. Meet 33 year
01:20old Luke Parkhurst. He proudly identifies as a stay-at-home son. While his mom,
01:25Patty, works as a flight attendant and a real estate agent, Luke earns his keep as
01:29an unpaid pool boy and personal chef. What's for dinner? Steak, of course. Back in
01:35July the former door-to-door soulless salesman ditched his grueling job
01:39making $170,000 a year because he said it didn't quote, feed his soul. Get in line,
01:45buddy. So Luke moved back in with mommy dearest and called the unpaid position
01:49his dream job. Although there is one glaring caveat. Dating. Luke confessed, if I
01:55ever want to get into a relationship, I know I can't tell a woman. By the way, I
01:59have a roommate and it's my mom. That's a pretty big red flag. But for now,
02:04Patty and Luke are all about their unique arrangement. She even called him her
02:09quote, hub son. Yeah. According to the U.S. Census, approximately one in three
02:15adults ages 18 to 34 now live with their parents. A recent Pew survey also found
02:22men are more likely than women to occupy the proverbial basement. That might
02:26explain Abdullah Abbasi, a 24-year-old stay-at-home son from Chicago. He's been
02:31unemployed since the pandemic, so he pulls his weight by acting as the family
02:35chauffeur. The cushy lifestyle actually inspired him to launch his own clothing
02:40line called stay-at-home sons. The tagline, doing nothing is hard. Hey, it's nice
02:46work if you can get it. For more weird but true news, be sure to subscribe to the New
