00:00Well, London Calling, you've done a variety of characters.
00:03You play a hitman in this, star in Ransom Canyon, done rom-coms.
00:07How do you choose roles at this point in your career?
00:10And has that changed at all from when you started?
00:13Oh, for sure.
00:14I think that when you start, you just kind of take whatever you can get and try to make the most of whatever opportunity.
00:19And that was what I did when I first started was I just tried to take whatever little window of opportunity that I had and just jump through it.
00:27And thankfully, I get to keep doing it now.
00:30It's been a really fun 25 years.
00:37And yeah, I do look at, you know, I learned a lot over the years.
00:41You know, you make decisions differently based on family, based on location, based on director, based on script more than anything.
00:50You know, if you don't have a great script, I try to stay away from it because it's hard to make a good movie if you don't have a good script.
00:55And so, you know, I just try to surround myself, whether it's as an actor or a director, is, you know, just by surrounding myself with the best talent.
01:08And not just talent, but good people.
01:12You know, life is too short to not work with really, you know, good, easy people who don't take themselves too seriously.
01:22Well, New York Post is going to California.
01:26You left to go to Minnesota.
01:28So what was the aha moment for you that, you know, you wanted to obviously continue working in Hollywood, but you wanted to really put your roots back in Minnesota?
01:37Well, this has been a process that I've been doing for the last 15 years.
01:40It started, I think, in 2007, seven or eight.
01:48And it was about this land out there.
01:50I knew I wanted to be out away from everything in the woods and build sort of my own little oasis in a way.
02:00And it's taken a long time.
02:01It was a lot of, you know, pickaxes and shovels in the beginning.
02:05And then I got a tractor, I got a skid steer, go Bobcat.
02:10And then I got, you know, and not really sort of expedited things, but it was, you know, it was no electricity or water for a while.
02:16Then we had, then we dug wells.
02:17Then we had, you know, no more, you know, we built a sink in the kitchen and we built a bathroom.
02:23And it became like this little bit less rugged and a little bit more normalized, at least to what we're used to.
02:32So it's been a process.
02:33And I really appreciated that process, I think, because it was like, you know, we got to make sure we got enough wood and water and food because we're 40 miles from anything and we're deep in the woods.
02:43So we got to make sure that we're prepared.
02:45And I think that that was what I weirdly fell in love with was just, you know, it became about just the basics, hand to mouth, making sure that we could, I could take care of everybody.
02:55And we had enough just to stay alive out there, especially in the winter.
02:58So that was the beginning.
02:59Now it's pretty, it's pretty, we've got all the amenities that we need.
03:04I still try to keep it, you know, a bit like it used to be, but, you know, it's nice to have a warm shower and a toilet.
03:12So we're not, we're not, we're not, we're not using outhouses anymore.
03:15Thank God.
03:17Well, there's a lot of physical action in London calling.
03:21How did you get in shape for this role?
03:23Is that kind of like a bonus for you?
03:24Do you like having a certain exercise regimen when you sign on to certain roles like this?
03:29You know, it is definitely a motivator when you got to be physically ready.
03:36It does force you to get your ass in shape.
03:38And I think that that's, that's, that's a fun part about this is, you know, for whatever, every job's a little bit different.
03:43Sometimes you got to be really, really ready.
03:46Sometimes you don't, but you know, it, it, this business forces you to kind of keep your body in check and keep your, your health and everything else.
03:55And I think that that's, this is a movie that really required that because there was a lot of action, a lot of running, a lot of wrestling around, a lot of flying around in the dirt.
04:07Which I love, you know, this is why I got into this business.
04:09I love action movies, you know, especially movies like this.
04:12They're funny, but also actiony.
04:15They got a lot of heart.
04:16Really, really beautifully shot by Alex Cheneese.
04:20Alan Unger is the real deal as a director.
04:22It's my second movie with him now.
04:24So we're also in Cape Town, South Africa, which is a beautiful place to shoot.
04:29So it was just one of those that I'm, that I'm going to look back on and really remember fondly for sure.
