00:00The skies in Taipei may be cloudy but here in the heart of the city it's all
00:04rainbows as Taiwan's annual pride parade gets underway. Thousands of people from
00:09around the country and the world are marching through the streets to show
00:13support and unity with the LGBTQ plus community. Now in its 23rd year this is
00:18Asia's largest pride event and it continues to grow year after year with
00:23many new and returning attendees. Some have even flown to Taiwan just to
00:27experience the grand celebration.
00:57This is my fourth year here at Taipei and I love it it's so big and being from
01:02mainland China Shanghai they don't have any pride parades so we come and try to
01:07support show our love for the pride community and I feel international.
01:11The parade's theme this year is transcending stereotypes and understanding
01:15each other's differences. Taiwan was the first country in the region to legalize
01:19same-sex marriage though the queer community here still faces some barriers
01:23barriers like ID requirements for transgender people.
01:26I think in the past year this is a huge problem.
01:30I feel very happy to see everyone here. I think everyone's presence is a kind of
01:33支持.
01:34Still the country's progressive stance on LGBTQ plus issues
01:38was reflected in some of the most high profile attendees at Pride including
01:41Taipei City Mayor Jiang Wanan.
01:45The parade started at Taipei City Hall and spread out into two routes each with
01:48different
01:50queer rights groups and performers leading the procession.
01:53It's been a
01:57including Taipei City Mayor Jiang Wan-an.
02:00I want to thank today's day for joining us today.
02:05And I want to thank you for joining us today.
02:11The parade started at Taipei City Hall and spread out into two routes,
02:14each with different queer rights groups and performers leading the procession.
02:19It's been a wet week for Taiwan,
02:21but people here are not letting the bad weather dampen their positive energy.
02:25As they come out, have fun, and march for a better future for LGBTQ plus people everywhere.
