00:00On to ugliest houses in America. You've traveled all over the country.
00:04What has been your favorite states? I'll say Minnesota because we've been there a lot.
00:11So I'm grateful to all the people who are more than willing to show us their ugly houses.
00:17And then California because I usually get to sleep in my own bed and I'm rarely in California.
00:23And out of the three episodes that have aired this season so far, which region, the Midwest,
00:28the Great Lakes, and the Mid-Atlantic impressed you the most and why?
00:33Oh gosh, I don't even remember. We're on, we're about to hit our hundredth ugliest house.
00:39So they're all a blur. I'm going to say the Midwest. Again, they're very willing to show us their homes.
00:50And there's like a mix. There's a mix of everything.
00:55So I feel like I've seen that the Midwest is where we saw the Poseidon house.
01:03That was insane. I'm going to say the Midwest impressed me the most.
01:08I think they're the most inviting and willing to show us they're crazy.
01:14Do you feel for these homeowners that get in a bit over their heads with these houses?
01:18Well, I feel like that's always the case. I feel like they, they generally are like, oh, this has great bones.
01:26And then they're like, oh my God, there's so much meat. I can't get to the bones.
01:30You know what I mean?
01:31So it's, especially if like some places they're using concrete, some places they're using cinder blocks.
01:39They're not easy to like tear down. You've got to put in a little muscle, a little elbow grease.
01:46And if you're trying to do it yourself, it's a true, true challenge.
01:50So I think everyone goes in thinking we got the house, let's get to work.
01:57And a month in they're like, it's too much work.
02:00The houses may be ugly, but your wardrobe is always on point.
02:05You look beautiful on the show.
02:07Who is your stylist? How do you get your wardrobe together each season?
02:10I work with Jamie Stevens.
02:12Jamie did my second Emmy dress, and I think she's done everything since.
02:23I've worked with her on a lot of things.
02:26So we work together.
02:28I look through Pinterest and magazines, and I look at stuff and I'll be like, I want something like this.
02:35And then she'll bring me fabrics, and I put fabrics, or we'll, you know, we'll shop for things and do a lot of editing.
02:44So, and then some places send us things, and then I have a few friends that have their own lines.
02:50So they'll just send me stuff, whether I want it or not.
02:54And so we'll edit some things that we think will fit with what we're doing that season.
03:01Um, but yeah, it's, it's me and Jamie and her team.
03:07Each house is judged by three criteria.
03:09Ugly appearance, bad function, and the surprise.
03:12If you had to add a fourth metric, what would it be and why?
03:16Smells.
03:19There are often times, I don't know, I feel like I've been pretty good at hiding.
03:23Or I'll just be like, it does smell in here.
03:25Like, you smell that, right?
03:28Anybody, is that just me?
03:29That fridge looks not new.
03:31Wow, the smell is real extra in here, isn't it?
03:36But a lot of times, I try to hide it, but, um, smells, because a lot of times there's a moldy smell.
03:44If it's an old house, there's like the, we call it, what we call the grandma smell.
03:48Um, sometimes, you know, they're in a swampland and there's a swamp smell.
03:56So, smell would be the next criteria.
04:01No doors on bathrooms is a surprising recurring feature in these homes.
04:06Is there something you see over and over again that baffles you?
04:09Uh, the carpeting in bathrooms is a big repeater that I still can't believe is a thing.
04:18A new thing is something that we started calling the, the door dough, which, which is a window
04:29that used to be a door, and sometimes it's switched.
04:34So, uh, we've had, we've had that come back.
04:37We had the door dough come back.
04:39How do you give your eyes a rest after viewing some of these houses?
04:43Do you just go sit in a beige box and relax?
04:45No, I think, um, I, I hit up the hotel bar after seeing a particularly crazy house, especially
04:57if it's like some place that's hard to get to.
05:01That's one of the things.
05:03So sometimes we have to like travel in a group because there's no cell service.
05:09So we want to make sure everyone's there and can communicate.
05:12Um, and, uh, a lot of times those places are, have difficult terrain.
05:20Um, so usually after a day of coming down some mountain that wasn't, you know, meant for
05:29traffic, uh, a good lemon drop martini is needed.
05:35Scariest Houses in America was such a great spinoff.
05:38What's the next spinoff you'd like to do?
05:40I'd like to do comfortable homes in Europe.
05:47Everyone knows there is a reboot or a revival of The Office on the way.
05:52What would you think of a potential reboot, uh, or revival of Parks and Rec?
05:57Oh, I would like it.
05:58You know, things are real tough in Hollywood right now.
06:01I'd love a job.
06:02I'd love a job.
06:03Oh, God.
