00:00His moustache, his booming laugh and his instinct for emotion became synonymous with a new kind of communication.
00:09One that spoke in language of everyday India.
00:15That's Piyush Pandey, the man behind India's most beloved ads who passed away on October 23rd at 70.
00:24However, he was much more than just the face of Ogilvy.
00:27Born in Jaipur in 1955 to a government bank employee and a homemaker, Pandey grew up as one of nine siblings in a creative household that included filmmaker Prasoon Pandey and singer Ila Arun.
00:38After studying history at St. Stephen's College Delhi and playing cricket at Ranji Trophy level, he worked as a tea taster before discovering advertising at 27.
00:47It happened almost by chance.
00:49While at a friend's place, who was working in advertising at that time, Pandey and his group watched a few commercials and someone there said,
00:56This is what they do.
00:59If you say 10 times, it's good.
01:01So advertising can you try?
01:03Finding a job wasn't easy.
01:05But in 1982, Ogilvy happened.
01:07And so did a revolution in Indian advertising.
01:10Campaigns like Favec All's Mazboot Jod Hai, Toote Ka Nihin, Cadbury's Kuch Khas Hai
01:14and Asian Pets Har Khushi Me Rung Lai became part of India's cultural memory.
01:18Despite his towering reputation, Pandey often described himself as a team player, not a star.
01:23Under his leadership, Ogilvy India became one of the most awarded agencies in the world.
01:29His accolades included the Padma Shri 2016, the LIA Legend Award 2024, making him the first Indian to receive it,
01:37and the Lion of St. Mark at Cannes 2018, a lifetime achievement honor he shared with his brother, the first Asians to receive it.
01:44No audience is going to see your work and say, how did they do it?
01:47They'll say, I love it.
01:49That philosophy guided everything he did, from biscuit ads to political campaigns.
01:53His line, Abki Bar Modi Sarkar, written for the 2014 elections, became a national catchphrase.
02:00Even as the industry evolved, Piyush Pandey remained its constant voice, blending creativity with simplicity.
02:06A voice that laughed, sold and connected.
02:09A voice that was unmistakably Indian.
02:11If not, it was not Indian, but not Indian, it was a town, not IndianNotes.
02:15It has intended to be an intention of a body.
02:16A voice of a person who is연群, including a culture of other countries,
02:20A voice of a person, who is parent and atheist, was a fellow and always has a relationship to the people.
02:22A voice of a person is one of the most celebrated places.
02:24Only spiritual and a person likes to be acknowledged.
02:25A voice of a person is one of the most celebrated places.
02:26So appear on the country's side and no longer religious places,
02:28A voice of a person is one of the most ram.
02:30A voice of a person like people are the most celebrated places.
02:32You are the most celebrated places.
02:33It's been made for years and the most celebrated places.
02:34How could you feel, each other than the whole world is a kind of person?
