00:00So insha'Allah ta'ala beginning from now, this year onwards, the khatira that I give will be on Wednesday nights rather than Tuesdays.
00:07So every Wednesday insha'Allah will be my lecture insha'Allah ta'ala at Epic.
00:12And of course, one of the ways we want to begin is that this is a new year for us.
00:16Yes, it is a Gregorian calendar, but still psychologically we feel a sense of time.
00:21We feel a sense of the swiftness of time.
00:23You know, I'll betray my age, you all know roughly my age.
00:26I have memories of 1985 so vividly as a child, 1995 when I decided to pursue my Islamic studies,
00:332005 I came decided to come back to the country of America, 2015 I had another major decision,
00:39now we have 2025, subhanAllah how quickly time flies, those that are older than me,
00:44you have memories may of 1975 as well, subhanAllah this is the reality of life, how quickly time flies.
00:50And yes, it is even a Gregorian calendar, it doesn't matter,
00:53but the reminder of time is eternal, doesn't matter what the day is,
00:57we should always be constantly thinking of time, and how swiftly time flies.
01:03And I recited in Salatul Isha a verse in the Quran, which we should also pause and think about,
01:08where Allah says,
01:10أَوَلَمْ نُعَمِّرْكُمْ مَا يَتَذَكَّرُ فِيهِ مَنْ تَذَكَّرُ
01:13Didn't we give you enough time?
01:16عَمَّرَ
01:17We gave you a life to live,
01:18تَعْمِير is to live a life.
01:20أَوَلَمْ نُعَمِّرْكُمْ
01:22Didn't we give you enough time?
01:24مَا يَتَذَكَّرُ فِيهِ مَنْ تَذَكَّرَ
01:26Whoever wanted to benefit and take advantage of that time,
01:30could have done so.
01:31And we know on the Day of Judgment,
01:33when Allah subhanAllah will ask the people who don't have anything to show,
01:38how long did you stay?
01:40كَمْ لَبِثْتُمْ
01:40How long did you say?
01:42And they will say that,
01:43لَبِثْنَا سَاعَةً
01:44We stayed only an hour on earth.
01:46We didn't have that much time.
01:48In another verse in the Quran,
01:49when Allah says that,
01:50قَالَكَمْ لَبِثْتُمْ فِي الْعَرْضِ عَدَدَ السِّنِينَ
01:52Tell me how many years did you have on this earth?
01:55The people on the Day of Judgment,
01:58they will swear to Allah subhanAllah wa ta'ala,
02:00قَالُوا لَبِثْنَا يَوْمًا أو بَعْضَ يَوْمٍ
02:04فَاسْأَلِ الْعَادِينَ
02:06You only gave us one day,
02:08O Allah,
02:08in their memories,
02:10in their time frame,
02:11that they have lived their whole life in this earth,
02:14and they have nothing to show.
02:15They will say,
02:16O Allah,
02:17You gave us one day,
02:18or even half of a day.
02:20And they are so confident,
02:22they will say to Allah,
02:23O Allah,
02:24go ask the angels that kept their hisab.
02:27Literally,
02:28they're majnoon,
02:28they've gone crazy on the Day of Judgment.
02:30They are so certain.
02:32Why are they certain?
02:33Because they don't have anything to show
02:35for all of those years they've been here on earth.
02:38They don't have anything to show.
02:39And they are so certain,
02:41how could we have lived 5, 10, 20, 50, 70 years,
02:45and have nothing to show?
02:47And so,
02:47they go a little bit mad,
02:49and they will say on the Day of Judgment,
02:50Ya Allah,
02:51we promise you,
02:51You only gave us one day.
02:53You only gave us one day.
02:55In fact,
02:55You gave us only a few hours.
02:57Go check with the record keepers.
02:59Literally,
03:00it's in the Quran,
03:00فَاسْأَلِ الْعَادِينَ
03:01And Allah will respond back to them.
03:04قَالَ إِلَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
03:05It is very true.
03:07You lived only a short period of time.
03:09You didn't think about this.
03:10If you only had
03:11تَتَفَكُّرْ
03:11and تَدَبُّرْ
03:12you would have taken advantage of it.
03:14And so,
03:15the reality,
03:16O brothers and sisters,
03:17and at the beginning of every time frame,
03:19we should remind ourselves of this.
03:20Time flies in the twinkling of an eye.
03:23And we all know this,
03:24and we all experience this.
03:25Go back to your memories
03:26when you were a teenager,
03:27when you were in your 20s,
03:28when you were in your 30s.
03:30Go back to last year.
03:31Go back to COVID.
03:32It seems so long ago,
03:34and yet it was yesterday,
03:35it was two, three years ago.
03:36This is the reality
03:37of how swiftly time flies.
03:39And so, today,
03:40I wanted to give a bit of a reminder
03:42about how to benefit
03:45and maximize from our time
03:47in light of the seerah
03:48of the Prophet ﷺ.
03:50Because our Prophet ﷺ,
03:53he told us,
03:54one of the signs of the Day of Judgment,
03:55hadith is in Sahih Bukhari,
03:57one of the signs of the Day of Judgment,
03:59وَأَن يَتَقَارَبَ الزَّمَانِ
04:00Time will become shorter.
04:03Time will become تَقَارُب.
04:04What does it mean,
04:05تَقَارُبَ الزَّمَانِ
04:06One of the interpretations,
04:08I'm not knowing others mentioned this,
04:10one of the interpretations is that
04:13time will not be as beneficial
04:16for later people
04:17as it was for earlier people.
04:19Time will not be as beneficial.
04:22Time will,
04:23we'll say in English,
04:24fly faster.
04:25Time will go faster for later people
04:28than it was for earlier people.
04:30Or we can also say,
04:31there will be less barakah in time.
04:34There will be less barakah.
04:35And the concept of barakah
04:37is something I've spoken about,
04:38we should all be aware of.
04:40Barakah means the quantity is the same,
04:43but the quality is more.
04:44Because we all have the same day.
04:47The one who's the most productive
04:49and the one who's the least productive.
04:51The day that they have on earth
04:52is exactly the same.
04:53Quantity-wise is exactly the same.
04:56The one who lives 50 years, 60 years
04:58is exactly the same as everybody else
05:00who lives 50 years or 60 years.
05:02But then, subhanAllah,
05:04there are those people
05:04who in those 50 years,
05:06they accomplish what we cannot accomplish
05:08in hundreds of years.
05:09Imam al-Nawawi passed away in his 40s.
05:13And yet, his books have filled the world.
05:16Imam al-Bukhari died in his early 60s.
05:19And yet, you cannot give a khutbah
05:20or a dars or a khatirah
05:22except that the stuff that he has done
05:24will be referenced one lifetime.
05:26And yet, it impacted a globe.
05:28Every great scholar of Islam,
05:30every single mover and shaker,
05:32every single intellectual,
05:34every single person who benefited mankind,
05:36they lived the same time frame,
05:3910 years, 5 years.
05:40No major person lived 150 years,
05:43you know, in our recent memory.
05:44Nobody did this.
05:45But, times have different barakah.
05:48Times have different utility.
05:50So, in today's brief khatirah,
05:52I wanted to go over,
05:53how many, 10, 12 points from the seerah,
05:55from the life of the Prophet ﷺ,
05:58how to maximize,
06:00not the quantity of time,
06:02but the barakah,
06:03the quality of time.
06:04Our Prophet ﷺ is another example.
06:06Subhanallah, in 23 years,
06:08he was only 23 years preaching,
06:1023 years.
06:11In 23 years,
06:13he ﷺ shaped the world.
06:16He changed the course of history
06:18like nobody else has done
06:20in entire lifetimes.
06:22In two decades, 20 years,
06:24what accomplishments he made.
06:26Subhanallah, without a doubt,
06:27this demonstrates the barakah.
06:29The most mubarak life,
06:30of course, is his life.
06:31So, let us look at his life
06:33and let us extract
06:34some of the benefits
06:36that we can all apply.
06:37First and foremost,
06:38in no particular order,
06:39I was just thinking about
06:40various things from his life cycle.
06:42Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam,
06:43he always had
06:44a fairly regular routine
06:47when he was not traveling.
06:49It was not
06:50everyday different schedule.
06:51No.
06:52He had a fairly regular routine.
06:54And what happens
06:55when you have a regular routine
06:57is your productivity increases.
06:58He would wake up roughly
07:00the same time.
07:01He would pray his tahajjud.
07:02After fajr,
07:03he would do his azkar.
07:04Then he would turn around
07:05and speak to the sahaba
07:06for half an hour,
07:0745 minutes
07:08until the sun went up.
07:09And then there might be
07:10delegations that came in.
07:11And then he would have a qaylula,
07:13which is an afternoon sleep
07:14before Salatul Dhuhr.
07:15And then between Dhuhr and Asr,
07:17other issues of the state and affair.
07:19And then after Asr,
07:21he always spent at least an hour
07:22with the family.
07:24He had so many of his wives,
07:26he would visit every one of them,
07:27make sure that they're taken care of.
07:29And then after Maghrib,
07:30come and sit between Maghrib and Isha
07:31and the masjid.
07:32Any other affairs of the community.
07:34And then after Isha,
07:35private time with the wife
07:36that he was going to sleep with.
07:38And then begin routine again.
07:39A fairly straightforward schedule.
07:42And when you have a schedule,
07:44when you have a routine,
07:45then your productivity increases.
07:47If every day is a different schedule,
07:49if every day is an erratic thing,
07:51you don't know what you're gonna do,
07:52your productivity will go down.
07:54Time management.
07:55And that's why in our entire shari'ah,
07:58the rituals are actually embedded
08:00with time management.
08:01We have five daily salawat
08:03to always keep us in check.
08:05We have the yearly Ramadan
08:08to keep us in check.
08:10The yearly zakah.
08:11Our whole rituals are also time management.
08:14Because Allah wants us to be productive.
08:16And by putting these reminders,
08:18as Allah says in the Quran,
08:19إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمُؤْنِينَ كِتَابًا مَوْقُوتًا
08:23Salah is at mowqut,
08:25waqt.
08:25Salah has punctuality.
08:27There's a reason for this.
08:29Because when your entire schedule is set,
08:32automatically the productivity increases.
08:34So point number one,
08:35as regular routine as you can.
08:37Point number two,
08:38from the sunnah we learn,
08:39from the seerah we learn,
08:41the Prophet ﷺ
08:42never slept too late in the daytime.
08:46No.
08:47He woke up early
08:48and he stayed awake early.
08:50Yes, he would have an afternoon nap.
08:52But, like most of us,
08:54we wake up at what,
08:559, 10, 11 o'clock in the weekends.
08:57No.
08:57Every single day,
08:59he would wake up early
09:00and he would do the most necessary stuff
09:03right after the Adhkar of Fajr.
09:05Like the biggest issues that needed to be done,
09:07as Sahib Bukhari mentions that,
09:09after Salat al-Fajr,
09:10when he finishes Adhkar,
09:11he would sit down
09:12and speak to the Sahaba,
09:13get the updates.
09:14What happens?
09:15We will call business hours.
09:16office hours.
09:17This would be right after Salat al-Fajr,
09:19he would do this.
09:20And he said,
09:21in the authentic hadith,
09:22بُورِكَ لِأُمَّةِ فِي بُكُورِهَا
09:24Allah has blessed the time for my ummah
09:27in the early mornings of the hour.
09:30And so he never overslept.
09:32He would always begin early day.
09:34In fact, way before us,
09:35he would begin tahajjud,
09:37way before us.
09:37He would begin 3 a.m.,
09:394 a.m.
09:40is when he would begin his routine.
09:42Even if we cannot begin then,
09:43at least at Fajr time,
09:44we would begin the day
09:45and make the most important aspects,
09:48the earliest aspects to do,
09:50as he himself would do.
09:51And he told us literally,
09:53Allah has blessed my ummah
09:55in the early morning hours.
09:57This is an authentic hadith.
09:59بُورِكَ لِأُمَّةِ فِي بُكُورِهَا
10:01بُورِكَ بَرَكَةً
10:02فِي بُكُورِهَا
10:03in the early morning.
10:05Allah's barakah comes in the early morning.
10:08And so, try your best to not sleep after Fajr.
10:11And to do what needs to be done,
10:12your biggest tasks,
10:14your most important tasks,
10:15do them right after Salat al-Fajr,
10:17as our Prophet ﷺ would do.
10:20Also, of the things that we learned from the seerah,
10:23is that the Prophet ﷺ
10:25constantly taught us
10:27what is called مُحَاسَبَة.
10:29i.e. you don't need a boss
10:31when you are reminding yourself
10:33of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
10:34You don't need another person
10:36to keep you in check
10:37when your conscience
10:38is keeping Allah azza wa jal in mind.
10:41So this is called مُحَاسَبَة.
10:43How is مُحَاسَبَة done?
10:44مُحَاسَبَة is done
10:45by a strong taalluq
10:47and relationship with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
10:50By reminding ourselves
10:51that we have to answer to Allah
10:53for what we've done.
10:54By always having the,
10:56for example,
10:56all of the ayat and hadith about time.
10:59For example,
10:59on the Day of Judgment,
11:01we all know the five questions
11:02the Prophet ﷺ said,
11:04the feet of the son of Adam
11:05will not move
11:06until Allah asks him five questions.
11:09Two of those questions deal with time.
11:12Number one,
11:12what did you do with your youth?
11:14And number two,
11:15what did you accomplish in your life?
11:17Two of the five questions,
11:19that's like 30%.
11:21Two of the five questions deal with time.
11:24Your youth,
11:25which is the most vital,
11:26which is when you have the most energy.
11:28What did you do with your youth?
11:30And then your whole life,
11:32the time frame that I give you,
11:33what have you accomplished with your life?
11:35When we know that
11:36two of the five questions
11:38are gonna deal with time.
11:39Look at the Quran,
11:40how many verses about time.
11:42وَالْفَجْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْضُحَةِ
11:44Allah is giving qasam by the time.
11:46I just recited in the Quran as well.
11:48Didn't we give you enough time?
11:50So when you think of all of the times,
11:53Allah and His Messenger
11:54remind us of time.
11:56Why?
11:56Because this is muhasabah.
11:58You have to be monitoring
11:59the time that you have.
12:01Another thing we learned from the seerah
12:04of the Prophet ﷺ
12:05is that when you look at his lifestyle,
12:08another amazing thing we learned,
12:10and that is that
12:11there's a healthy balance
12:13of taking care of multiple aspects.
12:16It's not just one chore and that's it.
12:18You will never be productive
12:19if you immerse yourself
12:21in only one thing.
12:23No.
12:23Look at the seerah.
12:24The Prophet ﷺ
12:25took care of the affairs of the state.
12:28He took care of his own
12:29personal ibadah and dhikr.
12:31He took care of his society and people.
12:33He took care of his family.
12:35And everyone is being given a time.
12:37We are human beings.
12:39We cannot do one task,
12:41one chore for 24 hours a day.
12:42And that is not Islamic.
12:44And that is not something
12:45that will be productive.
12:46No.
12:47We must give every person
12:49the right that is due to them.
12:50We must give back to the community.
12:52We must give to our families.
12:54Too all too often,
12:55we people sacrifice
12:56one right for another
12:57and that's not healthy.
12:59They'll sacrifice family for career
13:01or career for family.
13:02That's not healthy.
13:03The Prophet ﷺ
13:04took care of every aspect.
13:07And if you look at his schedule,
13:09ﷺ,
13:09you literally have time frames
13:12dedicated for all of these different things.
13:15And when you do so,
13:16you find yourself productive and sane,
13:18mentally balanced.
13:19If you don't have
13:20these different slots
13:22to spread out,
13:24then you might actually
13:25not be mentally balanced.
13:26If you don't have work
13:28and you only have free time,
13:29if you don't have family
13:30and you only have work,
13:31if you don't have this community balance,
13:33you might possibly become slightly,
13:35you know,
13:36not normal.
13:37That's not healthy.
13:38The shari'ah,
13:38the Qur'an,
13:39the seerah,
13:40all of this teaches us
13:41to have a healthy balance.
13:43And so,
13:44balance out.
13:45Every one of you,
13:46and I speak especially
13:47to those that are starting
13:48their careers,
13:49that yes,
13:49career is important,
13:51but spend some time
13:52with family as well.
13:53Family is also important.
13:54Don't sacrifice one for the other.
13:56And of course,
13:57each one of us has to decide
13:58where that line is,
13:59but the point is,
14:00each one should be given
14:01an emphasis like
14:02our Prophet ﷺ did.
14:05Also, by the way,
14:05when you give each one emphasis,
14:07there is one aspect
14:08definitely from the seerah we learn,
14:10private time,
14:11alone time.
14:12This is something
14:13a lot of times we don't do.
14:15It's very important
14:16that every one of us have time,
14:18we cut off from the dunya.
14:20We just sit and do dhikr
14:22or spend time in meditation
14:24and in ta'abud
14:25and in, you know,
14:26zuhd of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
14:28the tahajjud,
14:28qiraatul Quran,
14:29that alone time.
14:31You cut yourself off from society
14:33every single day
14:34for at least three hours,
14:36the Prophet ﷺ
14:37would have that alone time
14:38where he's cut off from everybody
14:40in his salatul ta'ajjud.
14:41Minimum three hours
14:42he would do.
14:43I know that's a lot.
14:44Even 20 minutes for us,
14:45five minutes for us,
14:46half an hour,
14:48we have to have that
14:49alone time
14:50where we have nothing to do
14:52other than our own thoughts,
14:53our own contemplation
14:54and our own dhikr of Allah
14:55subhanahu wa ta'ala.
14:56Another thing we learn
14:57from the seerah of the Prophet ﷺ,
14:59he surrounded himself
15:02with people who were winners,
15:05who were motivational.
15:06He surrounded himself
15:07with those who accomplish things.
15:09If you surround yourself
15:11with people who think alike
15:13and who are going to accomplish things,
15:15it will rub off on you.
15:16And if you surround yourself
15:17with people that are losers,
15:19that have no ambition,
15:20what's gonna happen?
15:21Look at the sahaba,
15:22look at how much they accomplished
15:24in each of their lifetimes
15:25and look at the diversity
15:26of their talents.
15:28And so, look at your friends,
15:29look at those
15:30whom you spend time with
15:31and make sure
15:32they are movers and shakers.
15:34Make sure there are people
15:35who will benefit you.
15:37Like the Prophet ﷺ,
15:38sahaba,
15:38every one of them
15:40is himself a living legend.
15:42And that demonstrates
15:43the synergy
15:44that when you're surrounded
15:45by people
15:46who are accomplishing a lot,
15:47you're also going
15:48to accomplish a lot.
15:49Another thing we learn
15:50from the seerah
15:51of the Prophet ﷺ
15:52is the dangers
15:54of procrastination.
15:56Of course,
15:56in his own life,
15:57he never procrastinated.
15:58But from the seerah we learn,
15:59from the Qur'an we learn,
16:00and from the seerah we learn
16:02what happens
16:02when you procrastinate.
16:03Look at the story
16:04of Ka'b ibn Malik
16:06when he procrastinated
16:07going on the
16:08Ghazwat al-Tabuk, right?
16:09He woke up,
16:09he goes,
16:10ah, there's still some time,
16:11I'll do it at Dhuhr time.
16:12Dhuhr comes,
16:13he goes,
16:13ah, I'll do a Qaylura,
16:14I'll catch them up
16:15after Asr.
16:16He goes,
16:16ah, it's late,
16:16tomorrow I'll do it.
16:17This next day he wakes up,
16:19three days go by
16:19and that's it,
16:20what happens, happens.
16:21If you don't know the story,
16:22look it up.
16:22The famous story of Ka'b
16:24in the Ghazwat al-Tabuk,
16:25look it up inshaAllah.
16:26But what was the problem there?
16:29Procrastination.
16:30Keep on delaying.
16:31And there is a statement
16:32attributed to
16:33Ali radiallahu anhu,
16:34and some say it is a hadith,
16:35but most likely
16:36it's a statement of the Sahaba
16:37in which one of the Sahabi said,
16:39التسويف من الشيطان.
16:42Procrastination is from
16:43the tactics of Shaytan.
16:45Procrastination is from Shaytan.
16:47And there is another statement
16:48of the Sahaba,
16:49Ibn Mas'ud said,
16:50do not delay the task of today
16:53until tomorrow
16:54because you don't know
16:55what will happen tomorrow.
16:57Do not delay the task of today
16:58until tomorrow.
17:00And how often,
17:01brothers and sisters,
17:01and I know this myself
17:02and you know it yourself,
17:03you're like,
17:04oh, this is not something urgent,
17:05let me do it till tomorrow.
17:07And then tomorrow,
17:08another thing happens,
17:09whether it's a flat tire,
17:11whether it is a small inconvenience,
17:13whether it is a chore,
17:14and you're like,
17:14oh my God,
17:14I had yesterday time,
17:16I could have done it,
17:16now today another thing came up.
17:18No.
17:19Productivity means
17:20do not delay anything
17:22that can be accomplished today
17:23for tomorrow.
17:24And the seerah of the Prophet
17:25ﷺ demonstrates this.
17:28Another aspect we learn
17:29from the seerah
17:31is positivity,
17:33even in the face of failure.
17:35Don't let a failure
17:36cause you to have a setback.
17:38Don't let a negative
17:40cause you to think negative.
17:42Don't let the problems
17:43of the dunya
17:44impede your personal progress.
17:46No matter what happens,
17:48do something.
17:50And so many incidents
17:51from the seerah.
17:52For example,
17:53the most difficult time
17:54of the seerah
17:55was the incident of Ta'if.
17:56As he himself,
17:57ﷺ,
17:58said,
17:58he told our mother Aisha,
18:00he said,
18:01no day was more difficult
18:02for me
18:03than the day of Ta'if.
18:04And yet still,
18:05while he is bleeding,
18:07while there's still blood
18:08on his hands
18:09and in his feet,
18:10and Adas,
18:11the slave,
18:13the Christian slave
18:13from Iraq,
18:15he comes his way
18:16and he gives da'wah
18:17to Adas
18:18and Adas converts
18:19to Islam.
18:20Subhanallah.
18:21No matter how bad
18:22that day was,
18:24still he accomplished
18:25an amazing accomplishment.
18:27No matter how negative
18:28that day was,
18:29he didn't allow
18:30the negativity
18:30to rub off on him.
18:32He saw something positive
18:33and he contributed.
18:34And so we learn
18:35from this,
18:36no matter what
18:36the setbacks happen,
18:38it should not
18:38impact your attitude.
18:40The attitude
18:40of doing something,
18:42the attitude
18:42of moving,
18:43shaking,
18:44leaving a legacy,
18:45causing an impact.
18:46Whatever happens,
18:47there's always opportunities
18:49to do something
18:50of good somewhere.
18:51So we learn
18:52from the seerah,
18:53never allow
18:54a failure
18:55to cause you
18:56to become overwhelmed
18:57with grief,
18:58with stopping
19:00your trajectory.
19:01No.
19:01Continue to do.
19:02Another reality
19:04we learn from the seerah,
19:05beautiful incidents
19:06from the seerah,
19:07is that the Prophet
19:08sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
19:09made sure
19:09that nothing distracted him.
19:11Again,
19:11so many evidences
19:12for this.
19:13It's something
19:14even as trivial
19:14that one day
19:15he was praying salah
19:16and there was
19:17a beautiful decoration
19:18on the rug.
19:19And he started
19:19looking at that decoration.
19:21And then he said
19:21to Aisha,
19:22you know,
19:22this decoration,
19:23it caused me
19:24to not concentrate
19:25in salah,
19:26so put it
19:27in another room.
19:27I don't want it
19:28in this room here.
19:29Literally something
19:30as trivial
19:30as the carpet
19:32being too decorated
19:33for him,
19:33he didn't like it
19:34and it affected
19:36his khushu'
19:37maybe by 1%.
19:38How is it going
19:39to affect his khushu'
19:40compared to us?
19:40So maybe the smallest
19:42amount it affected.
19:43And he said,
19:43you know what,
19:44I don't want it,
19:44no distraction.
19:45And he literally
19:46got rid of it.
19:47And then also one night
19:48our mother Aisha
19:49felt sorry for him
19:50that he's sleeping
19:51on such a little
19:52thin mattress.
19:53So she gave up
19:54her side of the mattress
19:55and she folded
19:56his multiple times
19:57and she slept
19:58on the sand.
19:59That's a sacrifice
19:59of our mother.
20:00So she gave her
20:01an extra mattress.
20:02Because of that
20:03he overslept
20:03maybe half an hour,
20:0520 minutes,
20:05we don't know.
20:06So it cut into
20:07his tahajjud.
20:07So he said to Aisha
20:09did you do something
20:10to the bed?
20:11She said,
20:12yes,
20:12I gave you my mattress.
20:13So he said,
20:14subhanallah,
20:14don't do that again.
20:15I woke up late
20:16for tahajjud.
20:17Subhanallah.
20:18He literally,
20:19because of that softness,
20:20he little bit extra,
20:22he goes,
20:22don't do that again,
20:22keep it back.
20:23He literally got rid
20:25of anything
20:25that he felt
20:26was a distraction.
20:28Now for him,
20:29some soft bed,
20:30I mean,
20:30we cannot compare
20:31ourselves to that.
20:32But definitely,
20:33I'm going to say
20:33something sorry guys,
20:34but may Allah
20:35forgive us all.
20:36Do I need to tell you
20:37what distractions we have?
20:39He's worried about
20:40some decoration
20:41and some soft bed.
20:43We have created
20:44the art of distractions.
20:46We have created
20:48the methodology
20:48to kill
20:4924 hours a day.
20:51May Allah
20:51forgive us,
20:52right?
20:52Social media
20:53and, you know,
20:54TikTok
20:54and Facebook
20:55and, you know,
20:57YouTube
20:57and the internet
20:58and, you know,
20:59this and that.
21:00May Allah forgive us.
21:01What is this other than
21:02distraction, right?
21:03What is this other than
21:04complete waste of time?
21:06How are you going to
21:07accomplish something
21:08when all you're doing
21:09is you're scrolling down
21:10Facebook and TikTok?
21:11How will you be
21:12a productive person
21:13when hours go by?
21:14Even the processor
21:15literally did not want
21:17any design
21:17because little bit of
21:19khushu'
21:19maybe was just
21:20slightly impacted.
21:21Demonstrates,
21:22if you want to be productive,
21:23cut off that which will,
21:24you know,
21:25bring about
21:26that distraction.
21:27And by the way,
21:28there are techniques
21:29to do this, right?
21:30That's another topic
21:30altogether.
21:31Put limits on
21:32your social media.
21:33You can put it
21:33on your phone,
21:34you know,
21:3530 minutes.
21:35Because I understand
21:36we need to update ourselves.
21:37We need to have
21:38contact with our friends.
21:39It's not, you know,
21:40it's a part of life.
21:41But you don't need
21:42to spend five hours.
21:43You don't need to spend
21:44hours and hours
21:44watching, you know,
21:46TV and whatnot.
21:46If you want to live
21:47a productive life,
21:48you're not going to
21:48live a productive life
21:49if the majority of your day
21:51is spent watching,
21:52you know,
21:53rays of light
21:54reflecting on your eyes,
21:55much of which is,
21:56you know,
21:56mubahar,
21:57much of which is not even
21:58mubahar.
21:58Allah musta'an.
21:59So,
21:59if you want to be productive,
22:00that's not going to happen.
22:02We learn from the seerah.
22:03Get rid of,
22:04get rid of what?
22:06Distraction.
22:06So,
22:07that's what we learn
22:07from the seerah.
22:08Another thing we learn
22:09from the seerah
22:09about productivity.
22:11Make dua to Allah
22:12to be productive.
22:13There are many
22:14authentic hadith of them.
22:16One of the most,
22:16you know,
22:17famous hadith of the process.
22:18He would say this regularly.
22:20It's a long hadith.
22:21The phrase we're interested in,
22:22وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ
22:24I seek refuge in you
22:26from incapacity
22:28and from laziness.
22:29If you want to be simple English,
22:31I seek refuge in you
22:33from not being able
22:34to do what I want to do.
22:36And I seek refuge in you
22:37from being lazy
22:38in doing what I need to do.
22:40He's seeking refuge in Allah
22:42from the inner issues
22:44of laziness
22:45and of not having determination.
22:48You don't want to be lazy.
22:49You don't want to be indeterminate.
22:51You want to be accomplished.
22:53You want to have an agenda.
22:55You have to have in your goal.
22:56You don't want to be aimless,
22:58wanderless.
22:59Or even if you have a goal,
23:00you don't want to be lazy
23:02in unaccomplishing that goal.
23:03So you have to have a vision
23:05and you have to have energy
23:06to put into that vision.
23:08And that's what Allah says in the Quran.
23:09فَإِذَا عَزَمْتَ فَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ
23:11Once you have determined
23:13what you want to do,
23:14then you put your trust in Allah.
23:16That determination,
23:17that desire,
23:18I want to do something,
23:20it's straight from the seerah,
23:21straight from the Quran.
23:22And in fact,
23:23every successful person,
23:25Muslim or kafir,
23:26doesn't matter,
23:26successful here,
23:27meaning of the dunya,
23:28every mover and shaker
23:30has a vision,
23:31a passion,
23:32a dream.
23:33You're not going to accomplish something
23:35if you don't have a vision.
23:36So this is what our process is saying.
23:37I seek refuge in you
23:38from being indeterminate,
23:40wandering aimlessly.
23:41And I seek refuge in you
23:43from being lazy,
23:44even if I have a dream,
23:45but I'm not going to accomplish that dream.
23:47No, you want both.
23:48So from the seerah we learn,
23:50make sure you have a vision
23:51and make sure you have the energy
23:52to put into that vision.
23:55Of the realities of the seerah as well
23:57that we learn,
23:58is that the seerah teaches us
23:59that you constantly remind yourself
24:02of the fact that this dunya is temporary.
24:05And you remind yourself of the akhira.
24:07What will this do?
24:08Our Prophet ﷺ said,
24:10أَكْثِرُوا مِن ذِكْرِ هَادِمِ اللَّذَّاتِ
24:13Frequently think of that
24:15which will destroy
24:16all of the pleasures you are in.
24:18Frequently think of death.
24:20And he told us,
24:21go and visit the qubur
24:22because it will remind you
24:24of your final abode.
24:25And I've said this multiple times.
24:27We are told to think of death
24:29not to live morbid lives,
24:32but to live productive lives.
24:34We are told to think of death
24:36because one of the most important factors
24:39that will make us productive
24:41is to realize
24:42none of us is going to be here
24:44after a hundred years.
24:45Think about that.
24:46Not a single person sitting here
24:48will be here after a hundred years.
24:50That is the reality.
24:51Not a single person here
24:52will be here after a hundred years.
24:54How do we,
24:54when we know this reality,
24:56well then let's do something.
24:57We're going to have people
24:58that are going to remember us,
25:00Allah عز و جل
25:00will write down what we have done.
25:01We will not be able to change
25:03what we have done.
25:04So productivity will come
25:06when you realize
25:07our time in this dunya is finite.
25:09So constantly thinking of the akhira,
25:12spirituality, iman, and death,
25:14all of these factors
25:15will actually make you more productive.
25:17And then the final point,
25:18again much can be said here,
25:20but the final point inshallah wa ta'ala will do
25:21is perhaps inshallah wa ta'ala
25:24the most important one.
25:25And that is,
25:27the productive person realizes
25:29that ultimate productivity
25:32and ultimate success
25:34is not measured
25:36by people in this dunya.
25:38It's not measured
25:39by accomplishments
25:40that others can see.
25:41It is not measured
25:43by a legacy that is visual.
25:45It is measured by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
25:48And therefore,
25:49as long as you put in the effort,
25:52even if you fail
25:54in the eyes of men,
25:56the effort will make you a success
25:58in the scales of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
26:01Once you understand
26:03there is no failure
26:05if you put in the legitimate effort.
26:08And since Allah will judge success,
26:10not men,
26:11and since Allah will reward,
26:13and you don't care about what men do,
26:15since Allah will give the actual hisab,
26:18now you will feel liberated.
26:20I don't care if other people think
26:23I have failed.
26:24If I have put in the effort,
26:25and Allah knows I've tried,
26:28then in the eyes of Allah,
26:30I have attained success.
26:32It is the single most motivational factor
26:35to achieve success.
26:37Because one of the biggest causes of failure
26:39is when you keep on trying
26:41and trying and trying,
26:43and you perceive nothing happens,
26:45you throw up.
26:45You throw in the towel.
26:47You give up.
26:48I can't do it.
26:49It's not working.
26:50Nothing is happening.
26:51You want to solve a Palestinian problem.
26:52Thing after thing after thing,
26:54nothing's working.
26:54You want to bring about the izzah of the ummah.
26:57Your decades go by,
26:59and then you think nothing is happening.
27:00But then if you start thinking,
27:02hold on a sec,
27:03Allah Azza wa Jha will ask,
27:05what did I do?
27:06And as long as I tried,
27:08and as long as I attempted,
27:10and as long as I put in the effort,
27:12I have succeeded.
27:13All of a sudden you feel liberated.
27:15Because success is not judged by YouTube likes.
27:19Success is not judged by what other people think and do.
27:22Success is not judged by lobbying power,
27:25anything of this nature.
27:26Ultimate success is judged by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
27:30And He will judge you based upon what?
27:32Allah says in the Quran,
27:33وَأَلَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَانِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَى
27:37وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُ سَوْفَ يُرَى
27:40Man shall only be given the effort he put in.
27:44And his efforts is what will be seen on the Day of Judgment.
27:48Notice,
27:49وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُ سَوْفَ يُرَى
27:51His sa'i,
27:52sa'i, you think it means safa and marwa.
27:54No, sa'i actually means effort.
27:56And safa and marwa is called sa'i,
27:58because it's an effort to walk that long.
28:00Sa'i actually means putting in an effort.
28:02And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says,
28:05وَأَلَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَانِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَى
28:08Man shall only get the effort.
28:11Notice, Allah didn't say result.
28:13Allah did not say result.
28:15Allah said the effort.
28:17And that's literally the entire message of the Quran.
28:20وَمَنْ أَرَادَ الْآخِرَةَ
28:22وَسَعَى لَهَا سَعْيَهَا
28:24وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنَ
28:25Whoever desires the Akhira
28:27and puts in the effort for the Akhira
28:29while he believes.
28:31فَأُلَيْكَ كَانَ
28:32سَعْيُهُمْ مَشْكُورًا
28:34Their efforts will be rewarded.
28:36Notice, not their success,
28:38not their failure,
28:40not what other people think and do,
28:42the effort you put in.
28:43So realize, you want to be productive,
28:46all you have to do is put in the effort.
28:48And whether people think you're productive or not,
28:51how many were the scholars,
28:52they died in jail,
28:53they didn't realize they would be productive
28:54after they died.
28:56Their books would be popular
28:58after they've left this earth.
29:00How many people,
29:00they didn't realize the impact they had
29:02until the Akhira goes on.
29:04How many of the shuhada
29:05of the early Muslims in Mecca,
29:06they did not see the conquest of Mecca.
29:09Are they failures?
29:10حَشَ وَكَلَّ
29:10No, they have achieved success.
29:12Why?
29:13Because they put in the effort.
29:15So once you realize,
29:17ultimate productivity
29:18only requires effort.
29:21And if you put in the effort
29:22correctly, sincerely,
29:24for the sake of Allah,
29:25you have achieved productivity and success.
29:28The only failure,
29:30if you don't put in the effort.
29:31If you literally give up
29:33and you do nothing,
29:35then you have failed.
29:36There is no failure.
29:38You can never fail
29:39if you try,
29:40if you do something,
29:42if you strive to bring about
29:43a change,
29:44a betterment in yourself,
29:45in your family,
29:46in your friends,
29:46you will never fail.
29:48Allah will reward you
29:49and it is a resounding success.
29:51Once you understand,
29:53success is not in my hands,
29:54in your hands,
29:55in the public's hands.
29:56Success is in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
29:58And all I have to do
29:59is show Allah I tried.
30:01All of a sudden,
30:02every day will be a productive day.
30:05Doesn't matter how bad the situation is.
30:07Look at our brothers and sisters in Palestine.
30:09That's what you call
30:10success, resolve, determination.
30:13The world has abandoned them.
30:14All of the Muslim nations
30:15have turned their back on them.
30:17They don't seem to have any hope.
30:19And yet still,
30:20they are shining role models and examples.
30:22Why?
30:22Because they realize
30:23they don't care about the dunya.
30:25They don't care about what other people do.
30:26They have to put in the effort.
30:28And do.
30:29And when they do so,
30:30Allah will write success for them.
30:32So brothers and sisters,
30:33these are some of the aspects,
30:34inshallah wa ta'ala,
30:35that we want to maintain
30:37in order to bring about productivity
30:39and barakah in our lives.
30:40May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
30:42bless all of us
30:43to live fruitful
30:44and productive
30:44and useful lives.
30:46And a final announcement.
30:47Tomorrow, as you know,
30:48there's going to be
30:49a winter storm coming.
30:51And Friday,
30:52we'll probably have snow on the road.
30:54So it is up to you.
30:56You judge.
30:57If you think it is dangerous,
30:58to come to the masjid,
30:59if you think that the roads
31:01are not safe for you,
31:02you don't have to have
31:03a life and death situation.
31:04It's not to that level.
31:06If you think it is dangerous,
31:07you're not going to work,
31:08you're not going to the stores,
31:09then do not come to the masjid
31:11and you're forgiven.
31:12And we will have Jumu'ah
31:13because I'm going to live walking distance.
31:15I'll come.
31:15Whoever is able to come will come.
31:17If it is dangerous,
31:18you make a judgment call.
31:19By dangerous,
31:20I mean,
31:20you think the car will slip.
31:21Simple as that.
31:22The Sharia actually allows
31:24even less than this
31:25when it was raining a lot
31:26and it was very muddy.
31:27The Prophet ﷺ said to Bilal,
31:29give the adhan,
31:30pray in your houses.
31:32Simply because it was slippery and muddy
31:34and it was just a hassle to come,
31:36he allowed them to pray in their houses.
31:37This is much more than muddy.
31:39It might be dangerous on the roads.
31:40So make a judgment call.
31:42If you feel there is a potential
31:43for an accident
31:44or something like this,
31:46you may stay at home
31:46and pray Salatul Dhuhr.
31:47And if you are able to come,
31:49inshallah we will have Jumu'ah over here.
31:51Jazakumullah khair.
31:51Salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
31:53In Allah wa malakitah
32:00yusallun ala nabi
32:04Ya ayyuhaladzhin aamanu
32:11salhu'u alayhi wa sallimu tasliyima
32:16Ya ayyuhaladzhin aamanu
