Steve Carell: intervista al protagonista di Benvenuti a Marwen
Trascrizione
00:00Steve Carell, molto bello to meet you. Welcome to Marwan, by Robert Zemeckis.
00:05First of all, I want to know if you mette a real Marc Ogenkamp to prepare the role.
00:11Yeah, I did. Both Bob and I went up and met with him.
00:16And I've been in touch with him since the day we met.
00:21We've exchanged emails and call each other from time to time.
00:25Yeah, it was great. It was great to meet him. He's exactly who you'd hope he'd be.
00:30He's very warm and self-deprecating and kind and open-hearted sort of guy.
00:38And how did you approach the character for the movie?
00:42Well, I approached it as I thought Mark would.
00:48I tried to get to know him as well as I could.
00:51And I tried to emulate the type of person he is.
00:56I just thought, you know, here's a guy who's experienced real severe trauma.
01:02And after all of that, after going through this incredible suffering
01:08and experiencing, you know, mental lapses and memory loss,
01:17that he still retained his humanity through it all.
01:21And I think that was sort of the root of what I was looking to do,
01:24is that here's somebody against all odds just maintain a real positive outlook on life.
01:31During the last few years, your characters have become more and more complex.
01:36I think it's quite beautiful for an actor to build this kind of characters during the years.
01:44I've been fortunate enough to be able to take some roles that are different and diverse.
01:51And so a lot of that's just luck being offered the kind of things that I've been offered.
01:57And always working with Robert Zemeckis, I think it must be quite stressful on set.
02:03Yeah, yeah, very intimidating. He's such a master.
02:06And I think that first day, everybody felt a lot of butterflies and a little bit apprehensive.
02:14But he's very unassuming. I don't know if you've met him or not yet, but very, very nice guy.
02:21Very, you know, very down to earth, very normal, and a real technician.
02:26Just knows exactly what he wants and is very confident, obviously, in his filmmaking.
02:30You share the scene with Leslie Mann. You work together in The 40 Years Old Virgin.
02:35She plays Mark's neighbor in the movie, and she's sweet and understanding and becomes Mark's friend.
02:43But there's also a sense of knowing about her.
02:48She understands what Mark is going through. She's very sympathetic, but she's earnest,
02:53but, you know, not completely oblivious to what's going on with him.
02:58And it's, I think, a very delicate and finely tuned performance.
03:02And it's great. We, you know, we make each other laugh. We have a good time.
03:06How did you feel being a doll?
03:09It was really fun. I mean, it was nice to be able to see myself as an action figure.
03:14It's not, not everybody gets to see something like that come to life.
03:20And it was, it was fun because much better looking than I am.
03:23So that was kind of nice to see.
03:25Like the idealized version of what I might look like.
03:27of what I might look like.
03:28of what I might look like.
