Tesla CEO Elon Musk told investors on the company’s third-quarter earnings call that the in-house AI5 chip will be produced in the United States at facilities run by South Korea’s Samsung and Taiwan’s TSMC. Musk said Tesla aims to overproduce the AI5 so any surplus chips could be deployed to the company’s data centers, and that Nvidia processors will continue to be used for training its AI models. In July, Tesla signed a US$16.5 billion contract with Samsung to make next-generation AI chips, known as AI6, with Samsung’s new Texas fab playing a central role.
