00:00Hello, and welcome back to episode 3 of our massive game of Snake Across South Korea.
00:09Right now, I'm the snaker, which means I'm trying to create the longest line possible
00:13before I'm forced to double back, or Ben and Adam manage to stop me.
00:16And right now, things are looking good.
00:19Last episode, I managed to break through Ben and Adam's roadblock in Osong,
00:22and got a clear path all the way to the top of the country.
00:25I've already managed to surpass Ben's distance, putting me comfortably in first place,
00:29and there's still no end in sight.
00:31I have an open path on my way to the east coast,
00:33at which point I'll need to decide if I'm taking one long train all the way down the coast,
00:37or if I'm going to head back towards the middle of the map and take a few shorter trains along this route here.
00:42Ben and Adam, on the other hand, need to cover both of these routes if they want any guaranteed chance of stopping me.
00:48Things on their end are looking less good.
00:51They wasted all of yesterday afternoon going in literal circles around the middle of the country,
00:55trying to figure out what I'm doing, and only just managed to come up with a decent plan.
00:59They were going to head up to Pohang, curse the long coastal route,
01:02and then make a quick transfer onto a train to Yongju,
01:05where they can throw down a battle challenge, theoretically covering both routes.
01:09The only problem with this incredibly time-sensitive plan?
01:12Well, their train just... completely shut off.
01:16Okay, the whole train just shut off.

01:51Did Sam do this?
01:56Okay, the lights are back on.
01:58The train?
02:00Are we recording?
02:01Yes.
02:02Should we completely pivot?
02:05I don't think we should pivot, because I think the best place to go is still Pohe.
02:07I still think we need to go to Pohe.
02:10I don't know that we're going to be able to make it to...
02:13To Yongju.
02:14Yongju.
02:14We have such a good plan.
02:16I think we might have no choice, Ben, but to go to plan B.
02:24Oh.
02:25Oh.
02:25We are leaving.
02:26Okay.
02:27Okay.
02:27Look, we'll see when we get to Pohe.
02:29The train is shaking as it moves.
02:32And it's the least of my concerns.
02:34Okay.
02:35Um...
02:36Unless this train goes incredibly fast, much faster than it's supposed to, we are not going
02:44to be able to do our amazing plan.
02:47Well, that's not great.
02:49The question is, what do we do instead?
02:54I think that there are sort of two possible options if we can't beat up to Yongju.
03:02We could, for example, put down blocks versus Pohe, and then move down to lower stages.
03:10We could completely fortify this line.
03:12Like, Yongjian and Imjian, and just sort of, we would have to put the blocks further down,
03:19which is less ideal.
03:22And we would need more of them, but we could just throw down a bunch of blocks around here.
03:30Um, yeah, well, because here's the thing.
03:34Like, there aren't good trains out of Pohe.
03:36If we miss the train we were planning to take, there aren't good trains for, like, two hours,
03:40as far as I can tell.
03:41Right.
03:41So our other option is we do nothing.
03:47We wait for Pohe.
03:51We don't give him any information about where we are.
03:54We pray that he heads down that line.
03:58And if he does, then we battle him.
04:02The problem is, if he doesn't go down that line,
04:09just give him how well-timed everything is.
04:13If I were him and I saw that line open, I would take it.
04:17Yeah.
04:23Okay, hello.
04:26I need to make some decisions.
04:29So, if I did my research right, which is, like, maybe a 60% chance,
04:35either they're hanging out down here because they think I'm just going to take this line,
04:39and they're going to start placing a ton of stuff around here in anticipation
04:43of me getting there and to prevent me from making my way through.
04:50That's a good strategy.
04:51The other good strategy is they suspect I won't do that because I think they're doing that.
04:56And they go somewhere here because what I could do, if I think they're down here,
05:02what I could do is I could go here and start doing some action in here.
05:07Just a pretty good move.
05:11So, I've kind of got another one of those classic 50-50 shots right now.
05:17We just passed Seo Gyeongju, which means that we get a card.
05:33Time to draw our card, Ben.
05:36Here you go.
05:36Let's see.
05:41Ooh.
05:43I tell you something, Ben.
05:44If I could have picked what card we got, it would have been that one.
05:49This is going to be quite helpful.
05:52Okay.
05:53So, I think now there's no question what our plan is.
05:57We just wait and pohang, and if we see him go down that line...
06:00Yeah.
06:02I think what we do is, yeah, we wait in pohang.
06:07We wait until he would have left Donkay.
06:12We check where he is with the tracker.
06:16And if he's headed towards us, then we start fortifying that area with as many challenges as we can do.
06:21Right.
06:22And if he's gone the other way, then we've hit it.
06:26Right.
06:30That's our play.
06:31Yeah.
06:32No question.
06:45Welcome to pohang.
06:46Welcome to pohang.
06:47Let's go check and see if that train that we were going to get on is miraculously still here.
06:52Oh, people are running.
06:58Departures.
06:59Yeah.
06:59I mean, it seems like it's just going.
07:01Okay.
07:02Well, it's what we thought.
07:03Yeah.
07:04So, now we are stuck in pohang.
07:06Welcome to pohang.
07:09We need to wait until what time would his train leave down here?
07:139.51.
07:14Until 9.51, we cannot and should not do a dang thing.
07:20We could go to the beach.
07:26We've made it to the east coast of South Korea.
07:31This is starting to feel like some real progress.
07:35I mean, I didn't see the west coast, but we started in the southwest.
07:39Now we're in the northeast.
07:41And we're about to start going south again.
07:43I'm liking this.
07:47Still no word from Ben and Adam.
07:49If they were there with a battle challenge, they would have put it down so they could start practicing or something.
07:54And I really don't think they could have gotten there early enough to place a roadblock.
08:00And anyway, they only have like five minutes to do so.
08:02So, I feel like they're not there.
08:04That means that they're almost certainly positioning themselves to respond to one of my two onward options.
08:14And it's really just a bit of a crapshoot.
08:18I've been researching, trying to find some logic for one versus the other.
08:21I don't know.
08:25I really don't know.
08:26All right, Ben.
08:42Well, here we are.
08:45We're here.
08:46We climbed a big hill.
08:48Yep.
08:48And now we're at the top of the hill.
08:50So, if he goes down that line, he'll hit us.
08:54We have a battle challenge ready.
08:56We also have some blocks.
08:58Yeah.
08:58And I think what we're going to do is we'll put the tracker on him to figure out if he's going this way.
09:02Yeah.
09:02And if he is, we'll put down a block here.
09:05Yeah.
09:06Sort of as a backstop.
09:07Then we'll go up another station and wait for him with a battle challenge.
09:10That way, if he wins the battle challenge, there's still a block he would hit afterwards.
09:16Yeah.
09:17Extra fortified.
09:18If he doesn't go this way, well, then we're in a little bit of trouble.
09:24I just don't see him doing that.
09:26No.
09:26I think he will be headed this way, and we will see him in a few hours.
09:29Welcome to Donghae.
09:41I got two options.
09:43They're almost certainly covering one of those options.
09:46The question is which.
09:49Oh, I really don't know.
09:54All right.
09:55This is the coastal train.
09:57It's leaving in like three minutes.
09:58So I've got to decide.
10:01Oh.
10:03It is the more intuitive thing for me to do.
10:07But the reason it's intuitive is because it's a super long segment that is essentially guaranteed once I get on this train.
10:15The advantage of it, there's no nodes on the way, so they won't get any info on this.
10:24All right.
10:25I'm going to take it.
10:26I'm going to explain my logic once I get on.
10:27I've got to go.
10:28What we need to do is wait here for a bit and put down a roadblock after he would have left Donghae for here, which is 9.51.
10:40Now we have two blocks currently.
10:43Baseball.
10:44We've got baseball.
10:45We've got baseball and we've got Ganji.
10:49My argument for baseball is that we have time.
10:53And Ganji is something that we can do really hard.
10:55And we're going to do really fast if we ever need to put down something really fast.
11:16Hit a home run.
11:17American baseball is one of the most popular sports in modern-day South Korea.
11:21Using anything as a ball and anything as a bat, hit your ball at least 20 feet.
11:26Three strikes and you're out.
11:28Do we want to look for stuff we could use as a bat or anything?
11:33I found one.
11:38Yeah.
11:38I think we're allowed to go a good bit bigger than that, though.
11:43Oh, that's a big boy.
11:45Yeah, I like that.
11:47That's a real slugger.
11:48That's how they play baseball in caveman times.
11:56Is that...
11:58Yeah?
11:58You feel like you could hit something?
11:59Maybe.
12:00I mean, let me try hitting something.
12:02Okay.
12:03Well, that's the other question, is what are we going to hit?
12:05There are rocks.
12:06There are also pine cones.
12:08I like a pine cone.
12:09That's great.
12:09That's great.
12:09That's great.
12:18Yeah, I got it.
12:20Okay.
12:21All right, Benjamin, we've found our stick.
12:23We've got our pine cones.
12:24I think let's head back to the train station so that we're in position to do the challenge.
12:29Excellent.
12:30This whole plan is going to require some pretty delicate timing and precise movements.
12:40It's like a ballet.
12:41It's a lot like a ballet.
12:42I would say that basically this is a form of a ballet.
12:46All right.
12:47Let's head back.
12:48Okay, here's my thinking.
13:01Yes.
13:02Especially knowing Adam, he's going to be twisting his head in knots, trying to figure out some
13:08complex move and be worried about that because he thinks I'm going to do that, but not.
13:18I'm just taking a long-ass train for three hours down the coast and hoping for the best.
13:27Here we go.
13:30Let's hope it's the right choice.
13:31Okay.
13:32I just checked the distance of this rail segment is about 124 miles.
13:39It's guaranteed at this point, unless they do a weird thing and come partially at the line, which I really don't think makes sense because of the frequency anyway.
13:48We're going to set up a shot, but this is Optimus Prime playing a violin.
13:59I think that that is what that is.
14:01That's crazy.
14:02Okay.
14:03All right, Benjamin.
14:05Well, surely if Sam is on the train to Pohang, he would have left.
14:11He would have left.
14:11Yes.
14:12I believe that he's on that train.
14:13I do too.
14:14I see a vision.
14:15I see a vision of Sam on that train.
14:17I agree.
14:18But let's confirm that vision.
14:19Let's use our tracker.
14:22I'm using the tracker, Ben.
14:24It's being used.
14:25All right.
14:26I'm texting him.
14:27Tracker time.
14:28Okay, well, I used the tracker power, which had not foreseen that.
14:43Now they have info about which way that I'm going two hours earlier than I was expecting.
14:51Because two hours from now is when I would have hit the first node on one of the routes.
14:58But I think that means that I will almost certainly encounter some action.
15:28Great.
15:29Great, okay. Ben, he's doing precisely what we...
15:54Excellent use of the tracker. Well done.
15:57We've confirmed that he's doing precisely what we think, and now it's time to put down a roadblock.
16:01Shall we? Let's fortify the hell up.
16:04Oh dear, Ben, this thing is really falling apart.
16:07Well, then we better hit the baseball sooner rather than later.
16:13All right, three tries.
16:15Three tries, three swings.
16:18Ready? First try. Just gotta get it past you.
16:27Just short. Just short.
16:33It was close. It was really close. Really close.
16:40Yeah, I think that that was also just, just shy.
16:44Okay, then does it actually come down to the last one?
16:48You've got one more. You have one more. You have one more.
16:51But both of those, that one was really close.
16:54I know.
16:54That one, both of them were like an inch off.
16:58Here we go.
16:59And that is a home run on the last hit.
17:14And they've placed a roadblock in Poehang.
17:30I mean, upside of them placing a roadblock is it might mean that they don't have a battle challenge.
17:37If they had a battle challenge, I feel like that would be the situation to use it.
17:40All right, Ben. Well, I think the fact that that proved to be kind of hard is a good thing.
17:45Yes, I think so too.
17:47And Sam is not very good at hand-eye coordination.
17:49No, I think that, I think that Sam would be more likely to fail this challenge than he would to succeed.
17:54But we are never going to know.
17:56No.
17:56Because we are going to head further up the line.
17:59Yeah.
17:59And we are going to declare a battle challenge.
18:02Yes, this is correct.
18:03Here's our train, Ben.
18:11Heading straight to Sam.
18:12We're going to crash directly into him.
18:14That's how we're going to stop him.
18:22And in fact, Ben, we're off.
18:31So, putting a little bit of thought into what Ben and Adam could be doing.
18:41Because I haven't placed anything else down yet.
18:44I guess one thing I haven't really thought about earlier is it might make sense for them to just continue
18:52coming closer to me on this line.
18:55Now, knowing for sure I'm on this line, they don't really need to do like risk mitigation
19:02by, you know, by going elsewhere.
19:06They can just really lock, kind of lock down this line.
19:12So, yeah, the more I think about it, the more I really don't love that they got that tracker.
19:27Okay, well, we are on the train up towards Sam.
19:31And we're going to get off at a station called Yang Diak.
19:37That's correct.
19:37Because as best as we can tell, every train stops there.
19:41And so, even if Sam does some weird move and transfers trains.
19:45Yeah.
19:45He can't pull any funny business and try and skip Yang Diak.
19:48He's definitely going to have to stop there.
19:50And he's definitely going to have to face us in battle to answer for his crimes of
19:57taking pretty good routes.
19:59But now we are here to put an end to all that.
20:03So, we are going to see you in wonderful Yang Diak.
20:14Yeah.
20:16Okay.
20:17Well, welcome to Yang Diak.
20:22No way out of it.
20:24He is coming to Yang Diak.
20:26And so, I think that means that it is time to put down our battle challenge.
20:31Let's tell him.
20:41Okay.
20:43Well.
20:48This is what I feared.
20:52Um.
20:56We've battle challenged me.
21:11All right, Ben.
21:12Are you ready to generate what the battle challenge is?
21:14I'm ready to figure out what kind of battle we will be facing Salmon.
21:18All right.
21:22Ben?
21:23I'm ready.
21:23I'm ready to know what kind of battle we're facing him in.
21:29What kind of battle?
21:30Shoot the gap.
21:34Shoot the gap.
21:35All three players must separate and collect a number of identical objects of their choosing.
21:40In 10 minutes, meet back where you are with your objects concealed.
21:44The person who has collected neither the most or the least object wins.
21:48Blockers may not collude about how many objects they collect.
21:52Oh man, this is the one I didn't want.
21:55Because it's like, it feels like you're not really in control of your fate.
21:58No.
21:58But again, we like statistically, it's the one that gives us the best chance.
22:05Statistically.
22:07We are not allowed to, God, if we could strategize, I have so many ideas.
22:13But we can't.
22:18This is terrifying.
22:25All right, it's time to lock in.
22:28I feel like the battle challenges, they already are disadvantageous for the snaker,
22:34because of the prep time.
22:35But also, most of them are like hand-eye coordination things.
22:38And as we've already established, I'm not good at those.
22:43Well, Benjamin, Sam is almost here.
22:46Should be here in about five minutes.
22:47Would you like to go and greet him at his platform?
22:50Let's go say hi.
23:04Hi, Sam.
23:07Are you ready to fight?
23:09Yeah.
23:13That was very frightening.
23:15Have you had a nice time sitting on that train for like three and a half hours?
23:18This was a lot of train time this morning.
23:20Yeah.
23:20Well, fortunately, your train time is about to come to an end, Sam,
23:23because we are battling you with Shoot the Gap.
23:27Uh, oh, oh, the one with the statistically worse odds for me.
23:33Yes, the one with the statistically worse odds.
23:36Not the statistically worse odds for you, but the one where I wasn't able to like
23:38practice throwing something.
23:41How long do you think it would take to collect 532 blades of grass?
23:47Probably not that long.
23:48Gentlemen, we have 10 minutes to collect any number of an item.
24:02Whoever collects the middle number of items wins the challenge.
24:06Oh my god, I'm so nervous.
24:0810 minutes starts.
24:10Okay, I have no idea what the right strategy is here.
24:20Obviously, if Ben and I could collude, then what we should do is we should have both picked
24:25like extremely high numbers, things that we wouldn't think that Sam would get.
24:30So that then, you know, one of us would be the middle.
24:34But in this case, I truly don't know what the best idea is.
24:38I think what I have to do is I just have to try to pick the most middle-y number that I can.
24:44Which, what even is that?
24:46I mean, seven is the obvious one, but I feel like seven in the span of all numbers is pretty low.
24:50I kind of like, I feel like the most intuitive range
24:56is like somewhere between, somewhere between like 10 and 20.
25:03I kind of like 20 as a number.
25:05Like if you pick like 20 or something, you're way too at risk of just being the highest.
25:11I think that the most likely numbers for Sam or Adam to pick are gonna be in the 3, 4, 5 range.
25:22Right?
25:23I'm gonna start collecting and like keep collecting for a really long time
25:32to hopefully make them think that I've gone for a lot.
25:35Sam's over there collecting blades of grass.
25:39He's collecting a lot of blades of grass, but I think he's doing it to trick me.
25:42I think Ben's watching me at 19.
25:49I mean, I hope Ben is watching me and being like, wow, he's picking up a lot of pebbles.
25:54I don't know what to do.
25:58Adam's over there stressing.
26:00I'm at 13 right now.
26:08Is that kind of an obvious one?
26:15I'm tempted to go down.
26:17I feel like 14 or something is just the most rational guess.
26:22Adam's looking at me.
26:23What number are you thinking, Sam?
26:25Negative 4?
26:26They're talking.

28:09there's some science that says that the gut has like its own brain i think or there's something
28:19about the gut and the brain so the point my point is that the gut is very smart organ smarter than
28:29the brain even perhaps i feel like this is something that i could have studied for
28:34like surely there's there's like an average guess that humans do for this you know what i should do
28:42oh here's what i'll do here's what i'll do i know the answer the answer is 17. if you remember
28:53years ago 30 seconds let's return to our spots 30 seconds
29:03if you remember in singapore if i had just kept going on 17 i would have hit what do you think
29:12black again or should we just go into the numbers this could be black you think but we could put
29:16big money on 17 twice i have 25 on 17. yeah big money big money big money big money
29:25big money okay that is not 17. that's black 33. i think we should do 17 again go big or go home
29:33we're not gonna make any progress just by doing all right we go big or we just get stranded
29:37well we are officially broke i'm gonna drop three i'm gonna go 17
29:45five four three two one done all right we've got our items we've all got some number of some item
29:57of course just to reiterate the goal of this game is to have the middle most number of items if the
30:05other players have more and less items than you so if i have the middle list i continue on
30:10yeah that is correct i don't mr adam chase begins his run
30:13okay adam are you ready to present your items
30:18one two three four
30:26five six seven
30:31this is very suspenseful you keep going back eight nine nine rocks
30:37adam has nine rocks sam
30:41i i i have
30:4617 pebbles
30:5017 pebbles from sam adam went pretty low
30:56i feel nervous about how low adam went
31:01so now if i have more than 17 items then sam gets to continue
31:08if i have fewer than 17 items this is the end of sam's run
31:13and the number of very sweaty cherry blossom petals i have in my hand sam
31:21is four
31:22let's go
31:34excellent battling adam excellent battling
31:56i'm sorry sam
31:59it's a valiant effort except you picked way too many pebbles off the ground
32:04so with my defeat in youngjook adam is up next
32:07but when a round ends at a non-node station like youngjook
32:11we reset to wherever the nearest node is measuring by travel time
32:15in this case we had to hop on a train back to seo youngjoo
32:18one of the smallest nodes on the map
32:20with only a few trains passing through this station every hour
32:23adam is gonna have to be clever with his opening moves if he wants to make it out
32:26of this corner of the map in one piece
32:28hello welcome to seo youngjoo station which is the nearest node to where we were so this is where adam is starting
32:35it's 2 15 we got an hour and we should really go adam good luck bye bye you're off at 3 15
32:41sam let's go block him
32:44oh okay okay are you done fake running
32:51yeah yeah because we're definitely not taking that one right
32:55no we're definitely going to this john
32:57i have i have no interest in taking the 219 train
33:01let's let's get out of sight and then let's explain what we want to do
33:05yeah okay well this is an interesting start to around here's the deal i've only got two options
33:14about 45 minutes after i start there's a train up towards dong kai
33:19a little over two hours after i start there's a train west to dong daegu
33:26so this as you can tell we are we are not um at the in the biggest most busiest part of korea
33:33i i actually think that this station seems to be like kind of brand new and like all of the rail
33:38being built around here like this whole area is like just being developed right now
33:42yeah so like this station is very physically large but it doesn't have very many very many
33:46trains running through so like on the map it looks like you have one two three four different options
33:53but in practice with any reasonable wait time he only really has two
34:01now on their end they could get in front of me in either of those places
34:08but of course there's huge risk for them enormous risk if they guess wrong because
34:20if they are waiting for me in dong daegu and i go up to pohang that's 200 kilometers right there
34:24super long and you know it's gonna be really hard for them to get up there or if they wait for me
34:31in pohang then it's really bad for them if i go west to dong daegu because i can transfer on the
34:36high speed line i can go all the way up the country so you have to wonder what will they
34:40uh they told us to uh to off uh the station very politely the station is so busy that they
34:48they lock down the platform between trains so where were we we need to go to pohang because
34:54it's the only train we can take before adam is off and we really want to block him from going north
35:01because it's easily his best route yes so we're gonna put down a block in pohang but then
35:06the good news is if he goes west we can beat him to dong daegu and put down another block because
35:13actually it turns out the fastest route to get from here to dong daegu is to go up to pohang and
35:19then back down but he can't do that he can't do that because he'll immediately crash into him he's
35:24snaking about and a snake can't crash into themselves but we can because we're just people we're like
35:29we're yeah i guess we're like people yeah so it makes a ton of sense for us to go to pohang because
35:36we can basically cover both sides the only thing that might i can see him pacing around yeah he's
35:41pacing around over there he must be freaking out yeah he's doing he's doing some slow stepping he's
35:47really pacing he's he looks like he's mourning a dead person it's been like 30 minutes now he's still
35:55doing this
35:56we actually walked by adam and we could see him and he was still yapping to y'all like yeah 10 minutes
36:09after we left them after we left him because the thing is frankly there's not much to say i don't
36:14know i don't know what he's gonna do no i mean he doesn't really as far as we know have many options
36:19except confront whatever roadblock we uh we drop at 3 p.m we'll get on the train to pohang the round
36:26will start we'll draw our cards and hopefully we'll be able to stop him from going north and then
36:30hopefully we'll be able to stop him from going south and then hopefully he'll die that would be
36:35cool as in in the game in the game okay
36:39need to open your cnpj without any hassle with contabilize you can have it ready
