00:00If you want a show that hits hard and looks incredible, start with Moulin Rouge the Musical
00:09at the Birmingham Hippodrone. It's running right through to the 15th of November and
00:14it's exactly what you expect. The sets are massive, the choreography is relentless and
00:20the whole thing feels like a champagne bottle that's about to pop. Even if musicals aren't
00:25usually a thing, this one makes you forget you're watching theatre. It's pure energy
00:30from start to finish. A short trip away at Resorts World Arena, the magic moves onto ice.
00:37Disney on Ice Find Your Hero runs from Wednesday 29th October to Sunday 2nd November, bringing
00:43together the biggest Disney worlds in one swoop. Expect Frozen, Myona, Tangled and a heroic amount
00:50of glitter. You get acrobatics, dat skating and songs you'll be humming next week.
00:55If you'd rather see Machines the Musicals, the NEC is hosting Advanced Engineering on
01:00Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th October. It's a showcase of everything from electric
01:06vehicles to future energy tech. The kind of stuff that makes you realise how fast the
01:10world is moving. The scale is huge. Rows of live demos, prototypes and ideas that still
01:17smell finely finely of solder. It's an easy place to lose a few hours, just wondering
01:21between inventions. Then the NEC shifts from engineering to sparkle
01:26with simply Christmas. Open Thursday 30th October to Sunday 2nd November. Think hand made
01:32gifts, decorations, candles, jewellery and stalls that somehow convince you it's already December.
01:39There are craft workshops dotted around, a live demo stage and that unmistakable smell of
01:44cinnamon that follows you down every aisle. Whether you're hunting for something personal
01:48or just pretending to be organised, it's hard not to get pulled into the atmosphere.
01:54Sharing the weekend and hard to miss is Cake International. The world's biggest cake decorating
01:59show running from Friday 31st October to Sunday 2nd November. This one's wild, towering
02:06sugar sculptures, competition bikes that look too good to eat and displays so detailed you
02:11have to lean in to check they're actually edible. The artistry is unreal, dragons made of icing,
02:17city skylines sculpted in sponge and the smell alone could put you into a sugar coma.
02:23And for families who want something more hands on, Think Tank's half term programme is running
02:28all week from Monday 27th October to Sunday 2nd November. This year's theme is Spice and Aliens,
02:35telescope sessions, rocket building, slime labs and plenty of interactive science shows.
02:40It's noisy, chaotic and exactly what a kids day out should be. There's even a planetarium
02:46show that makes you feel like you've left Earth for half an hour. If the weather turns,
02:50it's the perfect place to hide out and still feel like you've done something worthwhile.
02:54While...
