Geelong Cup cancelled due to dangerous winds in Victoria

More than six-thousand Victorian properties are without power as damaging winds bring down trees and power lines, mainly in the state's west. The strong winds have battered western and central parts of the state with gusts of 120 kilometres an hour recorded west of Geelong. It's forced the cancellation of the Geelong cup and racegoers had to be evacuated from Marquees.

00:00We got through three races today but there were six that were called off and as the day went on it just got windier.

00:07There was a gust of 120km per hour at Mount Jellybrand in South West Victoria.

00:12A gust of about 94km per hour in Warrnambool.

00:16And Racing Victoria says the six races that were abandoned today will be run tomorrow.

00:21There will be free entry tomorrow afternoon.

00:24And the weather forecast is a lot more benign tomorrow.

00:27A top of about 17, cloudy and wind between 15 and 20km per hour.
