The Friendly Ghost is a Famous Studios cartoon released on 16 November 1945 as part of its Noveltoons series of animated short films. It is the first cartoon to feature the character Casper the Friendly Ghost.

00:00There are some people who believe in ghosts, and there are some people who don't.

00:18If you're the believe-in-ghost kind, then this story is about one.

00:23And if you're the don't-believe-in-ghost kind, well, just for fun, this story is about one anyway.

00:31His name was Casper, and he was surely the most unusual ghost there ever was, or wasn't, depending on how you feel about it.

00:41Every night, his brothers and sisters scampered out joyously to frighten the folk of the neighborhood.

00:53But not Casper. He'd rather stay home and not frighten people, but those to show how unusual he really was.

01:21Wake up, Casper! Time to scare people!

01:33Casper just doesn't like to scare people.

01:37Yes, it sounds sort of silly, but, well, he'd just rather make friends with them.

01:43I don't know, couldn't they?

01:52Oh, my God!

01:55This has been going on for eight years.

02:22And Casper just couldn't stand it any longer.

02:38So Casper decided to leave home to seek new environment where he might forget his ghost and make friends with the world.
