To celebrate 70 years in the United States, today Volvo Cars announces the debut of a limited-edition collection created in partnership with Sergio Hudson, one of the most notable emerging fashion designers in the US.   Inspired by the fully electric Volvo EX90, the collection features a car coat and belt that blend Volvo Cars’ simplistic Scandinavian aesthetics with Hudson’s bold designs to transform the materials found inside the SUV’s cabin into wearable luxury pieces.  The collaboration brings together two brands with a shared vision rooted in South Carolina: Hudson, a native of Ridgeway, and Volvo Cars, whose flagship Volvo EX90 SUV is assembled at the company's manufacturing plant in Ridgeville, outside of Charleston.

00:00I grew up in a little town called Ridgeway, South Carolina.

00:06My mom, she came from Charleston to this little town.

00:11She was very out of place in this little small town,

00:14but she fit in because she fits in wherever she is

00:17and she taught us to be who you are wherever you are.

00:21At a very young age, I was into fashion because she was into fashion.

00:25She's an extraordinary woman.

00:28Volvo holds a dear place in my heart and my family.

00:32Our first car as a family was a Volvo.

00:35I feel a connection here.

00:42These beautiful fabrics and the finishes that they put in the EX90.

00:47To be able to make actual clothing out of this, it was perfect.

00:52The car coat is made from a Taylor wool blend fabric

00:56that they actually use in the cars.

00:58It has a great finish, a lot of different layers of grays.

01:03The belt is made from Nordicote.

01:05It has a very pale gray color to it that kind of accents the buckle really well.

01:12I mean, if this feels like butter.

01:14The modernity of it, but the classicness of it, that's who I am as a designer.

01:19I don't look at the car and say, oh, this is like completely different from the car I grew up in.

01:28It's just a natural evolution.

01:30And I think that's what I strive to be as a designer.

01:34I don't want to just be different for the sake of being different.

01:37I want to evolve with the times, grow with the times.

01:40And I think that's what Volvo has done.

01:42I'm very proud as a South Carolinian and a fashion designer

01:46to be in this collaboration with Volvo from the runway to the road.
