Trump says he will travel to Malaysia, Japan, South Korea

US President Donald Trump said Monday (Oct 20) that he will soon travel to Malaysia, Japan and South Korea, while saying he also wants "to be good to China."   Despite renewed trade tensions between the United States and China, Trump again struck an optimistic tone ahead of a possible meeting next week with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea. 00:03great relationship I believe after we leave South Korea we'll be there

00:08together we thought that would be a good place to meet and we're going to be

00:14meeting I'll be in Malaysia I'll be in Japan I'll be in a couple of others we'll

00:18be sort of doing a little bit of a tour I've been invited to go to China and I'll

00:24be doing that sometime fairly early next year we have it sort of set but I

00:31think we're gonna have a very good relationship with China and again they

00:35will threaten us with rare earths I don't think they're threatening us too much

00:38right now but they could do that but I threaten them with something I think is

00:43much more powerful and that's tariffs because at a certain point they will not

00:47be able to do any business with us at a certain point if they pay enough tariffs

00:52it's almost like saying we don't want to do business with you but it's probably

00:56nicer saying you're gonna pay 158 157 percent tariff is a nicer way of saying

01:03that we don't want to do business with you and if they don't do business with us

01:07I think China's in big trouble I'll be honest with you I think China is I don't

01:12know that they even make it I really do I believe that they're in big trouble and I

01:16don't want them to be in big trouble I want them to do great I want them to thrive

01:20but we have to thrive together it's a two-way street I think when we finish

01:25our meetings and it's going to be a big deal look I'm meeting with a lot of other

01:29countries but this seems to be the one that people are very interested in I

01:33think when we finish our meetings in South Korea China and I will have a

01:38really fair and really great trade deal together I want them to buy soybeans they

01:43stopped buying our soybeans because they thought that was punishment and it is

01:46punishment to our farmers but we're not going to allow that to happen so I think

01:50we're going to end up having a fantastic deal with China it's going to be a great

01:54trade deal it's going to be fantastic for both countries and it's going to be

01:58fantastic for the entire world thank you very much
