00:00What's up, Elon? What's going on?
00:02I just dropped like a 150 milligram edible and I'm feeling f***ing zooted.
00:08You know what? I'm going to call you back later, dude.
00:11Wouldn't it be amazing if you could just call up millionaires and billionaires for advice?
00:17I met a presidential candidate, a multimillionaire entrepreneur,
00:21and my YouTube manager, Christian, is on a mission to meet the famous podcaster, Chris Williamson.
00:25Why should you care? Because we want to show you the exact steps it takes to increase your network
00:30and meet your dream mentor without any cash, without any connections, just easy.
00:36I believe that one relationship has the power to change your entire life,
00:40and we're going to prove it to you today.
00:42I want to start by just saying hysterical that I'm coming after a presidential candidate,
00:46like no pressure at all.
00:47I can't believe that this guy has come to Miami, bought a personalized cake,
00:51put Pom's face on it, and is going to hand deliver it.
00:54I have to give no one better to discuss thriving as a business leader in a recessionary period.
01:00I actually think this is going to work.
01:02Cody Sanchez.
01:04The number one reason my companies do $50 million a year in revenue is through the people I know.
01:12Three steps I use to get the dream job, business partners, and mentors.
01:16So part one, how do you stand out?
01:19I call the value bomb.
01:21We're living in a more connected world than ever.
01:23Everyone is one message away.
01:26The problem is, the people you want to connect with, everyone else wants to connect with them too.
01:31Value bombing is offering so much value, they can't ignore you.
01:35That's the secret.
01:36This is my YouTube manager, Christian, and in order to prove that you don't need a big name
01:41to meet somebody with a big name, he will be doing all the steps necessary
01:45to prove anyone is capable of getting the mentors they want as long as they put in the work.
01:50Do I have to do this?
01:52Yeah.
01:53Yeah, you do.
01:54He's obviously a little bit nervous about it.
01:56This is Chris Williamson, top 10 podcaster in the world, and Christian is a big fanboy.
02:01The law of reciprocity says, when you gift someone something, they inherently feel like
02:06they owe you something in return.
02:08So, that's what we started with.
02:11Christian composed a beautiful email saying, basically, I found your top performing YouTube
02:15video, clipped it up, made a thumbnail and a title.
02:19I estimate you can receive another 2 million views and roughly 6 to 8K in AdSense.
02:24It worked perfectly.
02:26So, we've just got a response from Chris Williamson, so he has come back to me saying,
02:31hello mate, I appreciate this approach, very proactive, find me on Saturday and say hi.
02:38Nailed it!
02:38Pretty perfect, isn't it?
02:40This is not going to work.
02:43There's actually me that sent you that email of the clip of...
02:48No way!
02:49Nice to meet you.
02:50Yeah, nice to meet you.
02:51Nice to meet you.
02:51How are you doing?
02:52Yeah, good, thank you.
02:53But I must get 20 or probably 50 messages like that a week.
03:00Yours is the first one that I reply to.
03:02So, how to get this right?
03:03Stand out by getting to know them.
03:05This is Sam Parr.
03:06Sam had a media company with millions of followers.
03:09He eventually sold that media company for 20 million plus to HubSpot.
03:13But back in the day, I was working in finance, didn't know Sam at all.
03:16I wanted to get in front of Sam.
03:17I was trying to start a newsletter, wanted to learn all of his secrets.
03:21He didn't want to respond to my one-off email and the thousands of others that came to him.
03:25So, what did I do?
03:26Instead of doing the same thing as everybody else, I sent him a package.
03:30I broke what's called the fourth wall.
03:31Basically, I sent him a package to his office by Googling his office location at The Hustle.
03:36And inside of it were like an obscene amount of Butterfingers.
03:40I think the box was like this big.
03:41Maybe it cost me 100 bucks.
03:43It was packed with Butterfingers.
03:45Cody sent me literally 50 Butterfingers.
03:48And I knew that Sam's favorite little fat boy snack was Butterfingers because he wouldn't shut up about it on his podcast, which I listened to at the time.
03:55Because of that, inside of a massive amount of Butterfingers, I basically put a little card that just said,
03:59I love what you're doing at The Hustle.
04:00Really appreciate you and everything that you're doing.
04:03Here's my email.
04:04I'd love to connect.
04:05I won't take up any of your time.
04:07Feel free to eat these things if you don't want to talk.
04:08Because it was so weird, not only did Sam email me back, but he also took a little snap of it, posted it on the socials.
04:16When Sam emailed me, I was really specific in my ask.
04:19And it was tiny.
04:21I was like, Sam, I think your stuff's awesome.
04:23I'm starting a newsletter.
04:25If you were going to start one today, what platform would you use?
04:27It took him 10 seconds to respond.
04:29And I used those 10 seconds to continue forward.
04:32So, break the fourth wall.
04:34That's how you stand out.
04:35Fourth wall break inside a fourth wall break.
04:38How to get this right.
04:40One tiny ask.
04:41You're not asking to meet them.
04:43You're not asking to pick their brain with coffee.
04:45Gross, by the way.
04:46Who wants their brain picked?
04:47Such a weird saying.
04:48I'm going to pick my brains.
04:49They're unpickable.
04:50Two, the ask can be something that they can respond to in 10 seconds that shows that you understand what their unique skill or interest is.
04:59For instance, Cody, how do I get rich?
05:02Not a good ask.
05:03So, if you reach out to me, you might ask, Cody, I'm buying my first business and I need to get a lender.
05:09Which one do you like to use the most?
05:11What are your top three lenders?
05:12It's really easy.
05:13I can respond in 30 seconds.
05:14It also shows that you know what I am talking about.
05:18Think about a way where at the end of me engaging with you somehow, there's a little smile on my face.
05:24And ideally, I want to share it.
05:25You don't have to get this right every time, but that is certainly how you get it right.
05:29So, we tried to recreate this approach with Anthony Pompliano, renowned investor, an entrepreneur.
05:34I sent poor little Christian to connect with Pomp with nothing but a nice note and a personalized cake.
05:41It worked so well that we ended up with a one-on-one ex-Navy SEAL as security.
05:47AKA, it didn't work at all.
05:49But that brings me to my next point.
05:51The reason that it didn't work is a couple of things.
05:54One is, we didn't think about our audience.
05:57Pomp has a private office.
05:58He doesn't want people sending random stuff to him.
06:00Two, we didn't tell him beforehand that we were going to send something like this.
06:04Three, maybe you don't send like a cake that's open packaging to somebody that anybody could mess with.
06:10Not my brightest moment.
06:12Although, I love his face on this cake.
06:14I mean, I still think it's a great idea.
06:16But the truth is, you want to take a little risk.
06:20The worst thing that's going to happen, you're going to have a good story to show for it.
06:23Step four, being ballsy.
06:25The chances are, you have an influential person in your realm of connections, in your network.
06:30And if not, you've walked past them on the street, saw them, or could see them, especially with all the conferences going on in the world.
06:36So, you need to take your chances.
06:38Last month, I spoke at a conference.
06:40Turns out, we ran into a future presidential candidate.
06:43We got a presidential candidate up there?
06:45And then we have me.
06:45It's basically the same thing.
06:47No difference whatsoever.
06:48Or, he ran into us.
06:50Literally.
06:51Good to see you.
06:53Give him an email address.
06:54Like a Twitter DM is probably the easiest.
06:57Twitter DM is probably the easiest.
06:57Introducing Vivek Ramaswamy.
07:00Rolls right off the top.
07:01He's worth half a billion dollars and running for president.
07:04The most important job in the world.
07:06Now, when he walked in the room at the event, even I sat in the corner and didn't introduce myself.
07:11But my husband did.
07:12Which ended up leading to my 28-year-old YouTube consultant on our team telling them that their social strategy essentially sucks.
07:20And they were totally fucking up and doing it wrong.
07:22People don't care about this kind of stuff on Instagram.
07:24This is an example of something that's way too overdone.
07:27This type of stuff should never be on Instagram.
07:29But we ended up advising them for the next 30 minutes because of that intro and now we're in Columbus on the way to a presidential candidate's campaign headquarters because we had the balls to ask him a question.
07:42Well, actually, I didn't have the balls.
07:44This guy did.
07:46By the way, that's my husband who got looped into this YouTube video despite lots of protests.
07:52He had the balls to do one thing that all of us weirdo YouTubers didn't, which was like, get out of our seat and shake the hand.
07:58This presidential candidate.
07:59So I don't know a lot about presidential campaigns, but I know a thing or seven about social media.
08:04So I thought, could we make his Instagram great again?
08:09That's not funny.
08:10So now we're going to figure out how do we take this to the next level?
08:13How do we seal the deal?
08:15Speaking of seal the deal, I do deals for you guys all day long.
08:19But the only deal you have to do is to hit that subscribe button.
08:22When we arrived in Ohio, we talked all about social media strategy, politics.
08:26And my husband and I were even invited on his podcast, which is wild.
08:29Sorry, guys.
08:29Get away here.
08:30We would have never gotten this if we hadn't shaken a hand, stood up.
08:36Now, you may not be in the same room as a presidential candidate.
08:39We had to make that happen ourselves.
08:40But who in your area do you know?
08:42Who is speaking at an event you could go to?
08:45What if when you shook their hands, you had an actual plan?
08:47Or who else knows somebody powerful that could make an introduction for you?
08:52What separates the winners from the losers are those who get a little uncomfortable.
08:57Here's how to get this right.
08:59First, position yourself as valuable.
09:01You are an expert in some field.
09:03What is the area where you could get free advice for 30 minutes?
09:06Two, have a clear ask.
09:08We didn't need an ask with Vivek.
09:09We had a give, which is even better.
09:12You don't want to waste their time and waffle around with what you're going to say.
09:14Clear ask 30 seconds or don't say it.
09:17Now, here's how to mess this up.
09:18Big requests.
09:19Can I grab a coffee?
09:21No, God, please, no.
09:23No, no.
09:25How do they know that you can actually help them if you haven't painted a really specific
09:29picture?
09:30The second is thirst traps.
09:31Don't do it.
09:32Don't be needy.
09:33Here's the way we quench our thirst.
09:35You want to be seen as you don't need them.
09:37You're doing them a solid.
09:39Lastly, you don't need to be an expert.
09:41You could also be an expert connector.
09:43Leverage the people you know, connect the two.
09:45And then every time those two people meet, they're going to think of you.
09:48The difference between an incredible life, an exceptional life, and a normal life are
09:53the people that you let in the door.
09:55Problem is, most of your friends you've been hanging around with all your life are not going
09:58to get you where you want to go.
09:59So who are you going to apply this to today?
10:01Pick three people.
10:02You can comment them below.
10:03Maybe somebody on this YouTube video knows that one person you're trying to connect with
10:08because one connection can change your whole life.
10:11You
