Piers Morgan on whether he'd run for PM as he criticises 'shockingly mediocre politicians' Source BBC
Transcript
00:00You've got a lot of views, a lot of opinions. Have you thought about politics?
00:04Would you consider a career in politics?
00:05Well, somebody did say PM for PM. There's a certain ring for it.
00:07Was it PM who said PM for PM?
00:09I think it was a few PMs, actually.
00:12You know what? I've never hankered to be in politics.
00:15But I do look at the current situation in our country and do think, wow.
00:19I mean, it does seem to be a shockingly mediocre top tier of politicians.
00:25And I think back to when I was young, when you felt like the Cabinet, for example,
00:29was full of really smart, intellectual people who'd all done things in the real world
00:32which had been successful. I don't get that sense anymore.
00:35Those kinds of people don't want to go into politics.
00:38And I think that's a shame. I would also go the Singapore route,
00:41which is they pay their politicians a million dollars each.
00:43And they remove, in one fell swoop, they remove corruption
00:46as a potential way for people to go down.
00:49And I think that there's an argument, if you pay, you know, pay peanuts, you get monkeys.
00:53And I think we've got to start paying politicians better,
00:56but with that, more accountability, and we demand more from them.
