00:00:00Good evening, five games on the way on a busy Sunday in the Premier League before we head into the international break.
00:00:24Danny Murphy and Joe Hart are here with us and we start at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Everton taking on Crystal Palace, the only unbeaten team left in the Premier League, currently on the longest stretch of games without defeat in their 120-year history. Simon Brotherton is your commentator.
00:00:40It's two weeks short of six months since Crystal Palace last lost a match, but this is the first of what is to become quite a regular Thursday-Sunday post-European adventure routine. Everton, for their part, remain unbeaten in their new stadium.
00:00:56Tyler Dibling makes his first Premier League start since moving to Merseyside from Southampton during the summer.
00:01:03And Chiano Barry also plays, as Everton make two changes, with Kiernan Dewsbury Hall suspended and Beto dropped to the bench.
00:01:11Crystal Palace are unchanged from last week's win over Liverpool, and nine of today's eleven also started the 2-0 win over Dynamo Kiev in Poland on Thursday.
00:01:20Tyrik Mitchell and Ismaila Saar are the two exceptions.
00:01:26Here's Munoz.
00:01:30Just stayed in as well by the slenderest of margins.
00:01:35It's a Palace throw.
00:01:39Here comes a long one from Chris Richards.
00:01:44In towards Lacroix, gets his head on it, doesn't fall, and the shot, good save by Pickford.
00:01:49Mateta going for it on the follow-up.
00:01:51Richard's throat.
00:01:55Lacroix gets there first with the header, and as it bounces down, falls at the feet of Marguet, and brings the save from Pickford.
00:02:03What a job he's done.
00:02:05Oliver Glasner, Palace officially, the seventh best record in the Premier League since his arrival.
00:02:11Pino looking for Mitchell.
00:02:13O'Brien chasing back.
00:02:15Mateta in the centre.
00:02:16Saar heads to the far post.
00:02:19And Mitchell wasn't far away.
00:02:23Really good effort.
00:02:25He absolutely levered it.
00:02:27It may have just skimmed the outside of the post on the way in.
00:02:31David Moyes there, who's led Everton to their best start in four years.
00:02:39Munoz.
00:02:40Wharton, now Saar.
00:02:42This looks promising for Palace.
00:02:43The ball into Mateta.
00:02:45Takes it in his stride.
00:02:46Good save.
00:02:48Best move of the match.
00:02:49Lovely play from Crystal Palace.
00:02:51And a decent save from the Everton and England goalkeeper.
00:03:01Grier.
00:03:01Garner.
00:03:06Garner.
00:03:07Decent ball in.
00:03:08Could be a chance.
00:03:09Stretching for it was Barry.
00:03:12That's the best attack from Everton in the opening 35 minutes of the game.
00:03:17It just bounced away from the outstretched leg of the Everton striker, Tiano Barry.
00:03:24Everton up against the joint meanest defence so far in the Premier League.
00:03:28Crystal Palace have only conceded three goals.
00:03:32Along with Arsenal.
00:03:35Here's Pino.
00:03:36Beautifully done.
00:03:37It's Milo Saar.
00:03:39Alarm bells have been ringing for Everton here.
00:03:41As Munoz comes in.
00:03:421-0.
00:03:44Pickford came out.
00:03:46And just as on Thursday in the Conference League, it's Daniel Munoz who puts Crystal Palace ahead.
00:03:53And on the balance of the play in this first half, you can't say that Crystal Palace don't deserve it.
00:04:00It was well worked and beautifully taken.
00:04:02And again, Jeremy Pino really pieces together Crystal Palace's play in so many ways.
00:04:08Saar picked his moment perfectly.
00:04:10And Munoz able to sweep it past the forward rushing Jordan Pickford.
00:04:15Jack Grealish.
00:04:25Hangs in the air and the header is at Henderson who really carries it away.
00:04:31Oh, Jake O'Brien with an early opportunity.
00:04:36Was pushed away by Dean Henderson in the Crystal Palace goal.
00:04:43I should think David Moyes will be feeling a little bit happier with the way his team are playing at the moment.
00:04:47They've certainly started the second half well.
00:04:52Everton have only lost one of the last 12 at home in the league before today.
00:04:57Work to do and it could get worse for them here with Jean-Philippe Mateta.
00:05:01Clean through.
00:05:02Big header away by O'Brien.
00:05:05That was a chance.
00:05:07Crystal Palace threatening a second goal with Mateta.
00:05:11Important header away by Jake O'Brien.
00:05:14Right place at the right time.
00:05:17Mitchell.
00:05:17Pino.
00:05:21Palace on the front foot.
00:05:23What a pass.
00:05:23Ismail Asar.
00:05:25He's round Pickford.
00:05:26And still.
00:05:27And he can't find a way in.
00:05:29And Mateta.
00:05:31Puts it wide under pressure.
00:05:35Chances coming and going for Crystal Palace in the last few minutes.
00:05:40Everton survive and it's still a one goal game.
00:05:43That's a lovely pass from Jeremy Pino.
00:05:45Mateta just screwed the shot wide of the post.
00:05:51That's how close it was to 2-0.
00:05:53Well they'll be hoping that that sort of moment doesn't come back to bite them later on.
00:06:01That's Mikko Lenko challenging for it.
00:06:05Hustling.
00:06:06Hustling.
00:06:06Hustling.
00:06:06It's Alcaraz for Everton.
00:06:08Flying save from Henderson.
00:06:13Excellent effort from Alcaraz to ignite the home crowd and almost get Everton back in the game.
00:06:19And I'm sure he can still see a route back to getting something from this game.
00:06:25All the while that it's 1-0.
00:06:27So Palace maintaining their lead in this second half.
00:06:30But certainly being made to work harder for it now.
00:06:35As Everton go in search of an equaliser.
00:06:37Beto will chase.
00:06:39Eric Burnham up in the penalty area.
00:06:41Down under the challenge of La Croix.
00:06:42Goes wide.
00:06:43It's a penalty.
00:06:43And Everton do have a route back into the match now.
00:06:48Maxence La Croix.
00:06:50Stretched out.
00:06:52And clattered into Tim Erog Burnham.
00:06:55He certainly doesn't get the ball.
00:06:58And referee Michael Salisbury.
00:07:00Quick to point to the penalty spot.
00:07:02And Everton with the chance to draw level here.
00:07:07Hilleman and Jai with a chance for a third goal of the season.
00:07:11Big moment.
00:07:13And Jai against Henderson.
00:07:15And it's 1-1.
00:07:16No doubt about it.
00:07:20That's a beautifully taken penalty.
00:07:23Calm and confident.
00:07:25And suddenly the Hill-Dickinson Stadium is loud and very, very noisy and animated.
00:07:32And David Moyes' team are well and truly back in the game.
00:07:37And suddenly it's got a different feel to it.
00:07:40Everton 1-1.
00:07:41Crystal Palace 1.
00:07:42Erick Brunner.
00:07:50Mikulenko.
00:07:51Sting taken out of the cross.
00:07:54This is Alcaraz.
00:07:55Into Hilleman and Jai.
00:07:58It's a chance.
00:07:59Oh, what a save by Henderson.
00:08:00It's in.
00:08:01Jack Greenish.
00:08:02With his first Everton goal.
00:08:04It added time.
00:08:07And he lifts the roof off this shiny new stadium.
00:08:11What a comeback.
00:08:15What a comeback.
00:08:17Oliver Glasner can't believe it.
00:08:19His team played so well for so long.
00:08:22But Everton have been putting the pressure on increasingly.
00:08:25The impetus has been with them the longer the game has gone on.
00:08:30They've fought and fought.
00:08:33And in added time.
00:08:35Henderson with the initial save.
00:08:36Munoz spinning and clearing.
00:08:39And Grealish's left foot deflecting the ball home.
00:08:43It's Everton 2.
00:08:44Crystal Palace 1.
00:08:46Well, what a difference in the mood.
00:08:49To that at half time around the ground.
00:08:51Among the home fans.
00:08:52Who were very disgruntled with what they've seen.
00:08:55Not so now.
00:08:5760-70 minutes.
00:09:00Fantastic performance.
00:09:01Of Crystal Palace.
00:09:03So.
00:09:04Very well creating chances.
00:09:06And just.
00:09:07We were not efficient enough.
00:09:09And also not to blame anybody.
00:09:11This can happen.
00:09:12And then.
00:09:13We made one mistake.
00:09:14So we don't make many mistakes.
00:09:15In our defence.
00:09:16We made one.
00:09:16They got a penalty.
00:09:17And then it was an open game.
00:09:19And then it was.
00:09:20Who gets the lucky punch.
00:09:21And takes it.
00:09:22And then today it was Everton.
00:09:24And it's worth to accept it.
00:09:25It could have been three down.
00:09:26You know.
00:09:27We hung in.
00:09:27We kept defending it.
00:09:28Even though we weren't.
00:09:29We weren't great.
00:09:30But we played much better in the second half.
00:09:32And we were worthy of.
00:09:33Of maybe getting it.
00:09:35But not.
00:09:36If you look at it.
00:09:36As I said.
00:09:37They could have had a couple of goals.
00:09:39It was good man.
00:09:41You know.
00:09:41Just nice to score.
00:09:42Light on.
00:09:43And yeah.
00:09:44To do.
00:09:44To score my first goal.
00:09:46You know.
00:09:46Here.
00:09:46To do it here.
00:09:47It was incredible.
00:09:49You're enjoying yourself.
00:09:49Aren't you?
00:09:50Yeah.
00:09:50No.
00:09:51I'm loving it.
00:09:51Honestly.
00:09:52I don't know.
00:09:53I don't even know what it is.
00:09:54Just waking up.
00:09:55And going to training every day.
00:09:57And with these guys.
00:09:58It's a great feeling.
00:09:59And yeah.
00:10:00To have that love back.
00:10:01And the smile on my face.
00:10:03I think you will see him when I score.
00:10:04Yeah.
00:10:04It was just brilliant.
00:10:06We will talk about Jack Grealish.
00:10:07As he said.
00:10:08It was a brilliant.
00:10:09Particularly second half performance.
00:10:11But the difference.
00:10:12And we should also point out.
00:10:13How good Crystal Palace were.
00:10:14In the first half of this game.
00:10:16But the difference between Everton.
00:10:17From the first half.
00:10:18To the second half.
00:10:19Was so marked.
00:10:20By pretty much every measure.
00:10:22They weren't just improved.
00:10:24They were massively improved.
00:10:26So what do you think the difference was?
00:10:28What changed Joe?
00:10:30Mindset.
00:10:30Personnel.
00:10:31I think Palace.
00:10:32Credit to them.
00:10:32Danny.
00:10:33They were excellent.
00:10:33Were they in the first half?
00:10:34They had so much energy.
00:10:36They just looked a little bit tired.
00:10:37From their midweek excursions.
00:10:39And Everton.
00:10:41As David Moyes say.
00:10:42They hung in there.
00:10:42And then their quality shone through.
00:10:43In the end.
00:10:44It was such a good second half performance.
00:10:46From Everton.
00:10:47But what did they need to fix.
00:10:49From the first?
00:10:50Well I think it was the changes.
00:10:51You know.
00:10:51He made the call.
00:10:52He took Beto out of the team.
00:10:53For a Monday night.
00:10:54He looked like he had a difficult game.
00:10:56Barry starting up front.
00:10:58Just not quite the presence.
00:10:59That David Moyes was looking for.
00:11:00In a.
00:11:01Like we say.
00:11:02Crystal Palace were excellent.
00:11:03In the first half.
00:11:03Excellent.
00:11:04And they did.
00:11:04They've got very few chances.
00:11:06Barry trying to link up there.
00:11:08Just couldn't really give an option.
00:11:09Ended up hiding behind Palace's back three.
00:11:12This was one of his opportunities.
00:11:13In the first half.
00:11:14Where he managed to get through.
00:11:15One on one.
00:11:16But a fresh gay here.
00:11:17In the first half.
00:11:18Just look like they had this situation.
00:11:19Under control.
00:11:20Barry didn't really stand a chance.
00:11:21And fair play to David Moyes.
00:11:23You know.
00:11:23He took him out of the team.
00:11:24But he's realised at half time.
00:11:25I need Beto in my team.
00:11:26I need him pushing.
00:11:28Making as much problems as he possibly can.
00:11:30Early on.
00:11:31Pickford's got the option.
00:11:32He sees Beto.
00:11:33We all know Pickford's capable of getting that in.
00:11:35Over the top.
00:11:36He doesn't take it.
00:11:37But with him stretching the defence.
00:11:39That just brings that main man into the game.
00:11:40Jack Grealish.
00:11:41A little bit of time.
00:11:42And Beto making that second run.
00:11:43Just making it difficult.
00:11:45Look.
00:11:45Of course.
00:11:45That's a ball to no one.
00:11:46They want Beto in the middle right there.
00:11:47But it was just encouraging signs.
00:11:50Grealish is quoted.
00:11:52He thought Wharton was excellent.
00:11:53He thought he was absolutely running the show.
00:11:55This is a senior pro saying.
00:11:56Look young man.
00:11:57As good as you are.
00:11:58I'm not going to let you settle.
00:11:59You're getting it.
00:12:00And that's Jack Grealish at his best.
00:12:02Alcaraz.
00:12:03Another half time change.
00:12:04Flying through.
00:12:05This was late on in the second half.
00:12:07First opportunity.
00:12:08Dean Henderson making an excellent save.
00:12:11In Boonham he came on.
00:12:12Michael Keane struggling.
00:12:14And they decided to make a positive move.
00:12:16It was really important.
00:12:16They got back into the game.
00:12:18But it's more runs off the front man.
00:12:20Beto posting it up.
00:12:21Making it difficult.
00:12:22A tired challenge.
00:12:24Absolute bonus that is for Everton.
00:12:25They couldn't believe their luck.
00:12:26Having survived two early chances.
00:12:28In that second half.
00:12:30Here we see Beto again.
00:12:31And they've gone.
00:12:32This stadium went from being ready to go.
00:12:34Palace had two really good opportunities at 1-0.
00:12:36And this is just winning the corner at 1-0.
00:12:39Revving it up.
00:12:39This is what you want to be in a 50-odd thousand seat stadium.
00:12:42That's how you want to feel.
00:12:44Jack Grealish.
00:12:44Like I said to you before.
00:12:46He just built into the game.
00:12:48And as they got more tired.
00:12:50Munoz.
00:12:50You don't see this happening.
00:12:51This is a man who's absolutely shattered.
00:12:53He's had a tough week.
00:12:54Grealish saying get off.
00:12:55Creating more chances.
00:12:57And the pressure started to build.
00:12:58Started to build.
00:13:00And Di linking with Alcatraz.
00:13:02As he goes over the top.
00:13:04Beautiful ball into the middle.
00:13:05Incredible header from Beto.
00:13:06Would have rounded it up.
00:13:07But how can you begrudge this man?
00:13:10Finishing a tough week.
00:13:11No doubt about it.
00:13:12Excellent finish.
00:13:13So pleased for him.
00:13:14Yeah Alcatraz got them out of jail.
00:13:17I realise that one.
00:13:18Do you know what?
00:13:19Oh God.
00:13:20When you're struggling a bit.
00:13:22You need your best players.
00:13:23To get on the ball and be brave.
00:13:24And he is a top player.
00:13:25And you can see the difference in the second half.
00:13:28So many more touches in the dangerous areas of the pitch.
00:13:30He was strong.
00:13:31He was fit.
00:13:32He looks happy.
00:13:33He's playing with a strut.
00:13:35That we've seen him play with before.
00:13:37And what happens is that's infectious to those around him.
00:13:39I mean I've got to give him the eye a mention as well.
00:13:40He's terrific.
00:13:42But Jack Grealish playing at this level will catch the eye of the England manager at some point.
00:13:47I know he's probably waiting to see if he can keep the levels up.
00:13:50But when he's looking as strong as he is now.
00:13:52And as brave as he is on the ball.
00:13:54Then it's pretty inevitable really.
00:13:56And when his numbers are pretty much where they were last season off 20 games.
00:14:00And he's only played seven now.
00:14:02As Danny said six games in.
00:14:03And maybe Thomas Tuchel is thinking alright let's see if he can sustain this.
00:14:07But he's going to catch his eye at some stage if he does manage to continue in this vein.
00:14:11Do you know what?
00:14:11You can tell in the way he interviews and the way he's behaving.
00:14:13That's a bonus for him.
00:14:15He's just really happy to get that joy back.
00:14:17Get that love of football back.
00:14:18And we all know Jack Grealish is at his best when he's happy.
00:14:20When he's enjoying it.
00:14:21When he's the main man.
00:14:22And like I say it was a great feeling to see him score that goal.
00:14:24You saw that relief.
00:14:25That excitement.
00:14:26How can you begrudge a man playing like that?
00:14:29What about Crystal Palace?
00:14:30As you said Danny.
00:14:31They started so well in that game.
00:14:33Probably had a good 70 minutes in that game.
00:14:36But is it just the exertions of Europe?
00:14:39Is it the fact that they don't have the biggest squad to choose from?
00:14:42In fact they've made the fewest changes along with Burnley in the Premier League so far this season.
00:14:46That's the key.
00:14:47It's because they've had to basically play the same 10-11 players for a good while now.
00:14:51And Joe and I were talking about it after the games.
00:14:55And if you're not used to it especially.
00:14:58It's not just the games.
00:14:59It's the mental preparation.
00:15:00It's the travel.
00:15:01And we did see in the latter stages of the game.
00:15:03I thought maybe some changes earlier for Palace might have helped.
00:15:06But they have done amazingly well.
00:15:09They had some great moments in the end.
00:15:11And to be honest with you Cal.
00:15:13There was a spell in the second half.
00:15:14They had a couple of chances.
00:15:14Could have put the game to bed.
00:15:16And the manager was pleased with the performance.
00:15:17He knows there's some tired legs out there.
00:15:20There's lots of positive things for Palace to take on into the next few weeks.
00:15:23We've got four more games on the way after September's goal of the month.
00:15:28We've got four more games on the way after September's goal.
00:15:58At the Vitality Stadium.
00:16:06Going that show.
00:16:08Running at Hickey.
00:16:11Well.
00:16:13The shot comes in from Caicedo.
00:16:16And he hammers Chelsea in front.
00:16:19It's pretty difficult to hit the football more sweetly than that.
00:16:22Just the sheer precision and power.
00:16:32It is.
00:16:33Hands on stack.
00:16:34Oh!
00:16:37That is a banging.
00:16:40We have to appreciate the power and the accuracy.
00:16:44This ball stays hit.
00:16:52Water.
00:16:53It's a world's camera down.
00:16:56And...
00:16:56Oh!
00:16:56Brilliant!
00:16:57He turned in.
00:16:58That is a sensational goal by Mitchell.
00:17:01He has just smashed that into the roof of the net.
00:17:04Like a striker in his pot.
00:17:15That's a beautiful...
00:17:18Martinelli!
00:17:19Magnificent!
00:17:27From Martin and me!
00:17:28To level it for us for later on!
00:17:33The Everett Syrox!
00:17:35Henderson looks long.
00:17:45The flag of the Tony has stayed down.
00:17:47It's Igor Thiago!
00:17:48It's in!
00:17:50It's a brilliant ball.
00:17:53And crashed it home.
00:17:55His most famous goal for Brentford yet.
00:17:57He's still in play as the two wrestle for it.
00:18:07It's still in play.
00:18:09And it's Noah Okafor.
00:18:11And it's Aronson!
00:18:12Great block by Sunessi.
00:18:13And Longstown!
00:18:152-1 Leeds!
00:18:19He's controlled that beautifully.
00:18:22And it nearly took the roof off.
00:18:27And you can vote right now using the QR code on the screen.
00:18:30Or you can go to the BBC Sport website or app.
00:18:33The vote closes at 11.30.
00:18:35We'll give you the results at the end of the show.
00:18:37And full terms and privacy notice are on the website.
00:18:41Ange Postacoglu was still searching for his first win in charge of Nottingham Forest
00:18:45when he took his side to Newcastle.
00:18:47Stephen Wyeth was at St James' Park.
00:18:51European commitments in midweek were kind of one.
00:18:54Cruel on the other.
00:18:55Newcastle go again with the side that started their record Champions League win in Belgium.
00:19:00And Stielanga faces the club he left in July.
00:19:03And Nick Voltanana tries to score for a third game in a row.
00:19:07Forest's defeat by Michelin was their fourth in 26 days since Ange Postacoglu's arrival.
00:19:12He responds with full Premier League debuts for Jacuña and Niccolò Savona.
00:19:17And a 100th for Ryan Yates.
00:19:19Chris Wood is recalled to face his old team.
00:19:21As these sides have only won once in the Premier League this season, such as Perceptions.
00:19:29And that seems alarming for Nottingham Forest.
00:19:32And that's so for Newcastle United.
00:19:35Gibbs White has given it away to Byrne.
00:19:38Gordon.
00:19:42Sesses his options.
00:19:44Spots trivia arriving.
00:19:46Joel Inson!
00:19:48Either side of Matt Searles.
00:19:50And this might have been awkward for the Forest goalkeeper.
00:19:53He was able to react sharply.
00:19:55He's missing four weeks in and we're already talking about how he's retained the faith of the club hierarchy.
00:20:02But the pressure is intensifying.
00:20:06So then he's not something you get under the spotlight of the Premier League.
00:20:11The Langer.
00:20:12Spots passes with Gordon.
00:20:14He goes across and heads right back in his direction.
00:20:23There will be a corner.
00:20:26After a glance between the officials to determine exactly what they thought had happened there.
00:20:31He has the gunman nearly probing.
00:20:35And Trippier can whip in a corner.
00:20:37And from Trippier.
00:20:41Deep one.
00:20:42And that's a sensational save.
00:20:45Joel Inson testing Matt Searles with the fingertips to claw the ball aside.
00:20:54The council wearing black armband today in memory of their Bears Cup winning goalkeeper and former manager.
00:20:59The real evening of Paul is down at the age of 82.
00:21:05Gordon.
00:21:07Matt Searles just gets it into Baltimore and then recovers.
00:21:14This is as good an opportunity that has come the way of a striker so far today.
00:21:20What was Morato thinking?
00:21:22A tepid clearance.
00:21:24Followed up with a brave reaction to get his body in the way of the shot.
00:21:33Here comes Indui.
00:21:34Do it.
00:21:34Do it.
00:21:34Do it.
00:21:35Do it.
00:21:35Do it.
00:21:36Do it.
00:21:37There's Chelsea Forrest to threaten in the second half.
00:21:40Williams.
00:21:42He's shot away.
00:21:46No drama for Pope.
00:21:50Newcastle really in this second half but still nothing to show for it.
00:21:54Oh, brilliantly won back in Newcastle.
00:21:57Oh, brilliantly won back and Newcastle don't threaten me.
00:22:00Oh, it's a stun-up.
00:22:03A moment of individual brilliantly when Newcastle required it most and on an afternoon when Forrest have defended so robustly.
00:22:15Something from long range has finally, something from long range has finally breached their result.
00:22:27Newcastle in the second half of the season for the second half of the season for the second half of the season for the second half of the season for Bruno Guimaraes.
00:22:40Newcastle lead Nottingham Forrest 1-0.
00:22:43Is there any case whatsoever for a foul there by Bruno Guimaraes on Morgan Gibbs-White?
00:22:52Forrest thinks so.
00:22:54Crucially, the officials, neither in real time nor with the benefit of a replay, agreed with them.
00:23:00Trippier, Tonali, back-turdling, Sells comes up with the save.
00:23:09It would have been a quite remarkable second Newcastle goal.
00:23:19Tonali.
00:23:20Headed down.
00:23:22And Voltemada up the underside of the bar, but not crucially over the line.
00:23:27Voltemada, I cannot believe he hasn't scored for a third game in a row.
00:23:38Sensational skill.
00:23:40Here comes Hodson-Odoi.
00:23:44He's made up a huge amount of ground.
00:23:47Callum Hodson-Odoi.
00:23:50Deep inroads into Newcastle territory.
00:23:53Other choices were available to Callum Hodson-Odoi.
00:23:56And perhaps better options were available to the shop.
00:23:59Straight in near Pope.
00:24:02Joel Linton.
00:24:03Murphy.
00:24:04Great cross.
00:24:06Somehow Sells comes up with a save.
00:24:11Seems certain to become 2-0.
00:24:17Murphy again.
00:24:18What a pass.
00:24:20And once again, Matt Sells is there to repel the effort from Harvey Barnes.
00:24:28If nothing of Forrest get anything out of the game tonight, it is their goalkeeper who will deserve an awful lot of the credit.
00:24:35Two opportunities to put it beyond doubt.
00:24:39Still 1-0.
00:24:40Still 1-0.
00:24:41And Newcastle could be in the clear.
00:24:50Anderson caught in possession and then lunging in.
00:24:54And the foul on Bruneghi Mares has resulted in a penalty.
00:25:00So much talk about Elliot Anderson's return to St. James' Park.
00:25:04But his contribution to the game that he will be remembered for may well be that.
00:25:09The perfect chance for Newcastle to ease themselves towards just a second Premier League winner of the season.
00:25:18Nick Voltemada.
00:25:20It's an outstanding penalty.
00:25:24Daylight.
00:25:26Between Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.
00:25:28And make a note, Les Ferdinand, 1995.
00:25:33Alan Shearer, 1996.
00:25:35And Nick Voltemada in 2025.
00:25:39All scoring in each of their first three Premier League home games for Newcastle.
00:25:44Right into the top corner.
00:25:46To make it Newcastle United 2, Nottingham Forest 0.
00:25:51We had to work very hard and I think patience was key today.
00:25:54First half was minimal goal-mouth action, but I thought we were the better team.
00:25:58Certainly expressed ourselves a lot better, I think, in the second half and deservedly won the game.
00:26:02I've been practicing a lot in the week and when I had seen the space, I thought, why not?
00:26:07So I get a shot, unbelievable goal, very happy, massive moment for myself as well.
00:26:14So, yeah, I have to keep going, but I'm very happy for today.
00:26:16Nottingham Forest, Steve, there might have been a foul.
00:26:18How did you interpret your challenge on Morgan?
00:26:20It was never a foul, to be fair.
00:26:23Football is about contact, but I'm sure I touched the ball before.
00:26:28I touched the ball, it was done burning after the contact, but this is never a foul, never, never.
00:26:33Seven games in the 26 days since you took over, it's been a rollercoaster.
00:26:37You didn't know that was going to be a challenge, even bigger challenge than you anticipated?
00:26:41No, not really.
00:26:41I knew it was a big challenge walking in and that's what it is and there's nothing wrong with that.
00:26:45I mean, I don't get why people kind of think that this is something that, you know, is a burden in any way.
00:26:54I love a challenge.
00:26:55The alternative is that I wouldn't, you know, be sitting at home watching the game and I don't want to do that.
00:26:58I want to be in the middle of it, so that's where I am.
00:27:00And the belief I had and the confidence I had going into the job hasn't wavered it one bit.
00:27:05Yeah, we haven't got the results in this period, but not through the lack of effort from the players or, you know, the lack of commitment to a different style of football.
00:27:12All those things are there.
00:27:13We've just got to get the results now and we've got two weeks to get that right.
00:27:16It was a challenge for Nottingham Forest, but they also came up against Nick Voldemort.
00:27:21And now when a legend of the game like Karl-Heinz Rummenigge comes out and says that they found an idiot in Newcastle who is willing to pay £69 million for someone who hadn't shown consistently that he could deliver, it might be polite to listen.
00:27:34However, this season, and we saw there, that he's now scored in three home games.
00:27:39He's along the likes of Alan Shearer and Les Ferdinand.
00:27:42And when we see the number that he's putting and the performances that he's putting in this season, he might yet prove worth that money.
00:27:49I think he will.
00:27:50He's got a great mentality.
00:27:52He's calm.
00:27:52He's composed.
00:27:53I love his interviews.
00:27:55He's taken it all in his stride.
00:27:56He looks comfortable.
00:27:58I love his moustache.
00:27:59He's got style.
00:28:00I love his hair.
00:28:03Most importantly, from a footballing perspective, which we're going to see now, he's got such intelligence.
00:28:09He links the play beautifully.
00:28:12He seems to always make the right decisions when it's one such, when to take it in and protect it.
00:28:17And what I like most about him, see here, he wants the ball in the box.
00:28:20Put it in for me.
00:28:21It didn't come this time, but he's always in between the 18-yard box.
00:28:25Lovely little touch.
00:28:26That awareness of players around him, which is great for Newcastle because they've got so much pace around him.
00:28:31And he's got strength.
00:28:33Today, I don't think he gave one ball away, which for a striker is incredible.
00:28:37The more the game went on in the second half when Newcastle were pushing, the better he got.
00:28:42He got himself in some good positions.
00:28:44He'll be disappointed here.
00:28:45I think he'll be a bit lucky for that one to fall to him.
00:28:48And he lashed at it a little bit.
00:28:50But the strength here.
00:28:51I mean, he's up against the likes of Morata and Milenkovic.
00:28:54They can't get through it.
00:28:55He's enjoying the battle.
00:28:56He's enjoying the fight.
00:28:57And then he's quick with his pass forward there to get the team on the front foot.
00:29:02And these little moments, when the ball goes in, that awareness, that little touch, it just sets the team off for attacks.
00:29:08And it's a great example for young players that when you play as a striker, so not only keep your position,
00:29:13but make sure you have pride in keeping the ball and making sure your team can build up.
00:29:18This one, great little effort outside of the foot, underside of the bar.
00:29:21He's probably thinking, it's not my day.
00:29:22And then, of course, as the game goes on, he gets the penalty and takes responsibility.
00:29:27And what about that, James, for the penalty?
00:29:29I mean, no keepers getting that.
00:29:30I absolutely love it.
00:29:31I love it to stand there and look him in the eyes and say, what are you going to do, mate?
00:29:34And to just rip it into the top corner like that.
00:29:37Brilliant.
00:29:37Absolutely no clues given in the approach to that thing.
00:29:41Look, it was fantastic from Volta Mard.
00:29:44His numbers against Nottingham Forest were fantastic.
00:29:46Well, there's that passing accuracy I was talking to you about, which is incredible for a front man.
00:29:50Big chances as well, three.
00:29:52When you play well and you're reliable, but you're also a goal threat, that's all you want.
00:29:58There's nobody in Newcastle at the moment who's talking about Isak anymore, and that's credit to him.
00:30:03What about Nottingham Forest and their results under Ange Postacoglu so far?
00:30:08Because we can look at this game and we can look at the difference between the first half and the second half.
00:30:13And part of that, obviously, is Newcastle's improved performance in the second half.
00:30:18But all of Forest's numbers were down in the second half of that game, which led to an XG of 0.23 in the second 45 minutes.
00:30:27On its own, at St. James' Park, that might be all right.
00:30:29But when you take it in the context of results under Ange Postacoglu in the league, Forest fans might be justifiably getting a little bit nervous about what the future holds.
00:30:40Because there hasn't been a win yet. With your experience of playing under him at Celtic, can you give them some reassurance?
00:30:48Well, I can. One thing I can say, it's going to be difficult coming in mid-season, but I don't feel sorry for him.
00:30:54Of course I don't, because he knew the job. He knows what he's doing. He's very much said that in his interview.
00:30:58But when he came in at Celtic, we were three wins from our first six games, and the pressure was mounting.
00:31:05There was a lot of pressure from outside. A lot of people probably wanted him out of Celtic at that point.
00:31:10And we had a moment away at Livingston. We lost 1-0, 95% away crowd in the stadium, and the pressure was on.
00:31:17But we got in that dressing room, and we kind of looked at him thinking, are we going to change things?
00:31:21And he doubled down. He said, look, this is how I want us to play. It's going to be tough. We're going to go through rocky times.
00:31:26Trust in me. We did trust in him. Three titles later. I'm not saying they're going to win the league,
00:31:30but you've got to give a manager a time, especially midway through the season.
00:31:34And you imagine that is the talk he'll be having with Evangelos Maranacos when they do meet later on this week.
00:31:40To Villa Park next, Burnley the visitors yet to gain any points away from home so far this season.
00:31:45Your commentator is James Fieldon.
00:31:48Villa, welcome back. Emi Martinez.
00:31:50After he pulled out of their game at Feyenoord with a calf injury,
00:31:54there were recalls for Luca Dina and Lamar Bogard,
00:31:56while Daniel Marlan replaces the in-form Emi Buendia.
00:32:00Burnley defender Calma Ektal isn't injured, but is omitted from their squad,
00:32:03so former Villa defender of three, loan spelled Axel Tuunzebi, comes in for his first league appearance.
00:32:09Jayden Anthony has four goals in his last five games,
00:32:12and Harry Kane is the only Englishman to have scored more than him across Europe's top tiers.
00:32:20Cash.
00:32:25Marlan.
00:32:28Helps it on here to Rodgers.
00:32:30Morgan Rodgers deflected!
00:32:32And narrowly wide.
00:32:33Well, he's certainly had his critics in the last few weeks.
00:32:38Morgan Rodgers, career-best 14 goals in all competitions last season for him.
00:32:43Couldn't get his first of the campaign there.
00:32:49Free header!
00:32:49Great save by Dubralca!
00:32:52And Esri Konza denied.
00:32:56Well, so many of his Villa goals have come here at home.
00:32:58Eight of ten all told.
00:33:00And he nearly added another there.
00:33:04Unai Emery has won all five of his games against Burnley.
00:33:06He only has a better 100% record against Fulham.
00:33:09Eight out of eight against the Colleges.
00:33:12Watkins.
00:33:14Rodgers.
00:33:15Quick release.
00:33:16Camera.
00:33:17Marlan.
00:33:18Straight through the middle.
00:33:19Daniel Marlan with a chance here for Villa.
00:33:21Estep there winning!
00:33:22But Marlan scores!
00:33:27Oh, how he needed that!
00:33:30He's looked so isolated at times when he started on his own for Villa.
00:33:34And Camera takes big credit for the assist as well.
00:33:38Daniel Marlan's three goals for Aston Villa came in back-to-back matches towards the end of last season.
00:33:44That's his first of this term.
00:33:45And he took it so well.
00:33:47Burnley split apart.
00:33:50Not great for a side of three centre-halves.
00:33:53Marlan the confident.
00:33:54Lovely reverse there across Dubralca.
00:33:57Aston Villa one.
00:33:58Burnley nil.
00:34:01Karl Walker with his throw.
00:34:03Foster.
00:34:04Burnley gaining 20 yards up the field.
00:34:07Every team seems to have a long throw taker these days.
00:34:13But nothing new with Karl Walker.
00:34:15He's always had it in his locker.
00:34:17Back out here to Cullen.
00:34:19Who strikes it sweetly.
00:34:20And Martinez with a top stop.
00:34:22Not too many people were expecting him to be in goal today.
00:34:26Showed smart reflexes there to get down and touch it behind.
00:34:29It's a tough ass for Burnley now.
00:34:31They've failed to win in any of their last 30 matches when conceding first in the Premier League.
00:34:36That's since the victory over Watford back in April 2022.
00:34:39Rodgers.
00:34:42Zenia galloping up on the overlap.
00:34:44McGinn.
00:34:46Oh it was a nice pull back towards Rodgers who goes down.
00:34:49Referee Andrew Kitchen has a look but doesn't react to the challenge.
00:34:54It was a classic give and go.
00:34:56Delightful touch there by McGinn.
00:34:57And there was a clear pull by Tuinzevic.
00:34:59Check complete.
00:35:01Michael Oliver the VAR says there was a slight pull on the shirt.
00:35:05But it wouldn't warrant a review.
00:35:08Bogart fends away.
00:35:12Marlon.
00:35:13It's the freedom of the Burnley half to do what he wants.
00:35:16And he finds Watkins.
00:35:18Marlon coming in again.
00:35:19Tuinzevic blocks it Rodgers.
00:35:22To Broca to the rescue.
00:35:23And things suddenly were promising there for Villa.
00:35:30Watkins with a lovely little touch back towards Marlon.
00:35:34Tuinzevic slips but the goalkeeper was there.
00:35:38On set.
00:35:39Watkins drops into the hole.
00:35:42Colin there as well.
00:35:43And he clears up again.
00:35:47They only have Clorantino down.
00:35:49Facing the grass at the moment.
00:35:51And they want to stop the game.
00:35:53Gesturing that the elbow was used.
00:35:59Only playing with 10 with Clorantino off the field.
00:36:02Having received treatment.
00:36:07Rodgers.
00:36:09Marlon.
00:36:10A chance for a second.
00:36:11Which he takes brilliantly.
00:36:13A lethal finish from the Dutchman.
00:36:23And maybe Villa fans starting to see.
00:36:26While they partied with serious cash for him back in the winter.
00:36:30Villa's so patient.
00:36:31But Rodgers in that space that they've had so often this afternoon.
00:36:35And Marlon peeling away.
00:36:37That's a super finish.
00:36:38Conveniently time for Daniel Marlon.
00:36:41Villa were about to take him off.
00:36:44And Marlon rifles home.
00:36:46Villa's advantage.
00:36:47They're two to the good.
00:36:49And on the way to three.
00:36:51Valuable points.
00:36:54Walker.
00:36:54And on the way to Bogart.
00:36:58On one to Cash.
00:37:00Matikas scored from range recently.
00:37:02And he nearly does again.
00:37:05Matikas scored that screamer at Sunderland.
00:37:08A couple of weeks ago.
00:37:10And the Holt end urging him to shoot again.
00:37:12To Brauka.
00:37:12With another great stop for his side.
00:37:18Laurent.
00:37:23Trying to release Hartman.
00:37:25Who gets it eventually.
00:37:26Too far ahead of Jakob Brun Larsson.
00:37:30Has gone behind for a corner.
00:37:32An unlikely one from a Burnley point of view.
00:37:34If I harm them.
00:37:41Free header.
00:37:42And Burnley back in the game.
00:37:45Martinez makes.
00:37:48And Leslie Ugutukwu.
00:37:50Has given the Clarence life in this game again.
00:37:54Well it was a totally free header on the six yard line.
00:37:58He couldn't believe his luck.
00:38:00Martinez I'm sure.
00:38:01He's disappointed about how it blew through him as well.
00:38:05And he's urging his side to get back and get on with the game.
00:38:12Across Barkley here.
00:38:15Dina on the outside.
00:38:17Luca Dina.
00:38:21Puentea.
00:38:22Keeping his feet.
00:38:24Rodgers.
00:38:25Dina.
00:38:26Flying save by Dubralca.
00:38:28And had that gone in it really would have settled it.
00:38:31He's been excellent today Martin Dubralca.
00:38:34Has saved his side time and again.
00:38:40Gets on.
00:38:41And he's giving it away.
00:38:43Fleming.
00:38:45See if Fleming holds off the challenge.
00:38:47It's Quentea down holding his face here.
00:38:49And actually with Burnley on the attack and it being a head injury.
00:38:55Referee Andrew Kishin feels the need to stop away.
00:38:59Ian Fleming didn't move the arm up into a vertical position.
00:39:04The B.A.R. Michael Oliver says everything was okay.
00:39:09That was aggressive though from Fleming.
00:39:12Game falls for over five minutes in added time.
00:39:15As Emi Buendia receives extensive treatment.
00:39:18Maybe the positive is that he doesn't need the stretcher at the end of it.
00:39:22Emi Buendia, what is the latest for Tim?
00:39:24Hopefully it's not.
00:39:25It's just I finished the match and I saw him and he's getting better.
00:39:30And for Donjon Marlon today, he was playing in the forward line.
00:39:34He had lots of support.
00:39:34Ollie Watkins and two great finishes from him.
00:39:36Yes, really he talks this challenge himself strongly to help playing the starting eleven
00:39:44as well.
00:39:44Tactically we tried to get him feeling comfortable in our structure and more close with Watkins,
00:39:52close to get the box.
00:39:54And he did it and he scored because he's a scorer.
00:39:56So I think it was a good performance overall.
00:39:58First half, I think we were really on it.
00:40:00Second half, both stages, we were also good.
00:40:03So I think we were quite pleased.
00:40:05We switched off in certain moments and I think the second goal probably epitomised that really.
00:40:08We're down to ten men.
00:40:09We've been in games this year and we've been hugely competitive.
00:40:12And I think there's a theme at the moment where we're just switching off in certain things
00:40:16and this is a deadly league that you switch off for one second and it can punish you.
00:40:21And when I look over the course of the first seven games, there's huge elements to us.
00:40:25But I really, really like and it's just little things that we need to fix up on a bit.
00:40:29And they came up against Daniel Marlon playing up front in a two with Ollie Watkins.
00:40:34They've been trying to get the best out of Ollie Watkins.
00:40:36Daniel Marlon wanted to go up there and help.
00:40:38He put his case to Unai Emery and he delivered, Danny.
00:40:41What's going on?
00:40:42We've got pairings up front, long throw-ins.
00:40:45Keepers kicking it long.
00:40:46We're going back in time.
00:40:47It's amazing.
00:40:49Bring us back.
00:40:50It worked a treat, whether it was Marlon or the manager.
00:40:53The manager's given the role and it gave Villa Elisa life.
00:40:58It helped Watkins.
00:41:00Perfect.
00:41:01Watkins looking to threaten him behind.
00:41:03Marlon comes into space, of course, because the defenders have to drop off
00:41:06because they're scared of pace.
00:41:07This was early in the game.
00:41:09And he looked full of beans, full of confidence.
00:41:11One in the ball, constantly making different runs.
00:41:14And they ran the Burnley defence, ragged the pair of them
00:41:16because they're both obviously quick.
00:41:17But they mixed up their games nicely, switched sides a lot as well.
00:41:20Here, two options for Kamara there.
00:41:24Can go left or right.
00:41:25Defenders not sure which way to go.
00:41:27Who am I going with?
00:41:28And we're so used to seeing players isolated in that forward position
00:41:31and midfielders only having one option or go wide.
00:41:34This was so refreshing.
00:41:35It's a brilliant finish.
00:41:37Obviously Watkins could have been there for the tap-in if he missed it.
00:41:41Again here, you can see this.
00:41:42He's attracting the attention of the centre-halves.
00:41:46You want to get tight.
00:41:47Defenders naturally want to go in.
00:41:48And you see that space where he's left.
00:41:50Big, huge gap.
00:41:51You know what Ali Watkins is going to do.
00:41:53He's going to run in there all day.
00:41:55And when you get that space and you're a forward with the qualities of Watkins,
00:41:59it's going to help you when you've got someone next to you.
00:42:01And this is what you want from two front players.
00:42:03Aware of each other's positions.
00:42:06Complete unselfishness.
00:42:07Nice link-up.
00:42:09Rodgers will be disappointed he didn't score.
00:42:10And this is the goal.
00:42:13I think it's a brilliant finish.
00:42:15Again, look, as we freeze it here, Burnley have got five in the line.
00:42:18But they still can't cope with the two runners in behind.
00:42:21Nice positions for both of them.
00:42:23Both passes were on.
00:42:24And that is a hell of a finish.
00:42:27Technically brilliant from a player who really,
00:42:29we haven't seen the best of them and shouldn't have the confidence
00:42:33to go and score that goal with the limited minutes he's asked.
00:42:36Now he's given Emery a headache.
00:42:38But what a great headache to him.
00:42:40But he's also helped Emery because that's four wins in a row in all competitions now for Villa.
00:42:44After a really tricky start where they couldn't get a goal in any of those games.
00:42:48And he's now got to 80 wins quicker than any other Villa manager.
00:42:51So we need to put that start to the season in that wider context.
00:42:56Well, I couldn't believe any rumours or murmurs, I should say, of discontent.
00:43:00This guy is a brilliant manager.
00:43:02And a great manager always finds a way.
00:43:04He's got plenty of talent in the squad.
00:43:06It was only a matter of time before they were going to start getting some wins.
00:43:09I expect Villa to kick on now.
00:43:11What about Burnley?
00:43:12No points away or no one away from home just yet.
00:43:15We always know that promoted sides are going to rely heavily on their home form.
00:43:19So is the away form a concern?
00:43:21A little bit.
00:43:22But they have had some tough games.
00:43:23I think what's pleasing for Scott is the fact that Scott Parker is that they've been in a lot of the games.
00:43:28I think Amani and I had they lost in the last minute.
00:43:30They've had late goals conceded in different games.
00:43:33They're more competitive than I think most people thought they were going to be.
00:43:36They've just got to learn faster.
00:43:38You know, with what Scott Parker said at the end.
00:43:40You can be in the game all you want and you can feel like you're comfortable in the Premier League and then bang, it bites you.
00:43:44Just those concentrations and all that concentration in those moments.
00:43:48Now, Brentford enjoyed their best win of the Keith Andrews era last weekend against Manchester United.
00:43:55So next up, the visit of Manchester City.
00:43:57Commentary comes from Steve Wilson.
00:44:01A City win would be Pep Guardiola's 250th victory in the Premier League, a landmark reached comfortably in record time.
00:44:11Keith Andrews makes one change for Brentford.
00:44:13But that's Ayer in for Watara.
00:44:15So he's reverting to the back five, which served him well here against Chelsea.
00:44:20City makes three changes to the side, which drew in Monaco in midweek.
00:44:25Stones, Bernardo, Silva and Doku replaced by Matthias Nunez, Savino and Bob.
00:44:31And there will now be silence at Brentford for Chris Ramsey, the club's head of academy goalkeeping, who passed away on Wednesday, aged only 39.
00:44:42He will be sadly missed here.
00:44:44And also for the victims of the synagogue attack in Manchester.
00:44:47The message on City armbands today and on armbands for United yesterday is a City United.
00:44:55It's been a very respectable start to his time in charge of Brentford for Keith Andrews.
00:45:19Very good here.
00:45:21We haven't actually taken any points away from here yet this season.
00:45:24Oh, Haaland's got him behind Vandenberg.
00:45:28They're in trouble here.
00:45:29It's 1-0.
00:45:32Erling Haaland for Manchester City.
00:45:34Well, he wasn't going to miss that.
00:45:36Not him, not Haaland.
00:45:38Not in a month of Sundays.
00:45:40It's just out-muscled Vandenberg, really, who'd got himself the wrong side.
00:45:44And once Erling Haaland had got half a metre away from Vandenberg, there was only one likely outcome.
00:45:51A powerful and precise finish, exactly as you would expect.
00:45:57Continues his run of having scored in every Manchester City away game in which he's played this season.
00:46:03Well, Manchester City are going to be forced into a change here.
00:46:10This is not good news.
00:46:14This is a serious blot on the landscape for Manchester City because, clearly, Rodri is not going to be able to continue.
00:46:23Don't need me to tell you how much missing Rodri affected them last season.
00:46:27People talk about his lack of experience, Keith Andrews, but he was the assistant manager at the Republic of Ireland.
00:46:35And also at Sheffield United before moving to Brentford as set-piece coach.
00:46:43Savino for O'Reilly.
00:46:45And Reinders arriving!
00:46:47Really good stop.
00:46:48Very good save there.
00:46:50Good effort, too, by Reinders, because that was an awkward one for him when he controlled it beautifully.
00:47:03Oh, Hickey's beaten to that.
00:47:06Brentford are claiming a foul, but I don't think it was for him.
00:47:08Oscar Bob wriggling nicely away from Collins.
00:47:11No penalty, says Darren England, and Oscar Bob didn't really appeal.
00:47:17Maybe had a glance in the referee's direction and then go on with it.
00:47:21Shada.
00:47:21And here is a great chance.
00:47:25It's a brilliant save by Donnarumma.
00:47:27Igor Thiago was away suddenly.
00:47:29Brentford were saying that Shada had been fouled, and suddenly Igor Thiago was off and running.
00:47:36But suddenly he's away.
00:47:38Five goals this season, Igor Thiago, but he never really threatened.
00:47:42To get around Donnarumma here.
00:47:45Well, it is by a long, long way.
00:47:47It's Brentford's best chance of the game, and by a long, long way, he didn't make the most of it.
00:47:53City have had a little habit recently of conceiving late goals.
00:47:56Monaco the most recent example, of course.
00:47:59I hope that by the time we get to the latter stages of this game, they're not still just one goal to the good.
00:48:06It's a good goal, lost it into Shada.
00:48:08Ruben Diaz getting across.
00:48:09And headed up and over the bar by Coyote.
00:48:15They've seldom so far in this game, if you felt that Brentford are likely to score a goal.
00:48:21Just beginning to show their teeth a little.
00:48:24One-direction first half, bit more even since the break.
00:48:33Matthias Nunez.
00:48:34Silva complaining, had no real options on ahead of him.
00:48:43He had to go back.
00:48:45Nunez to Donnarumma.
00:48:46Oh, Donnarumma.
00:48:51Straight down to Shade and out of play.
00:48:56And it's a corner.
00:48:58Well, this is interesting.
00:49:00Rebounded back onto the Italian.
00:49:02Who, by many people's measure, is the best goalkeeper in the world.
00:49:13Minimum of four added minutes.
00:49:15And Donnarumma comes and gets a big right club on it.
00:49:22Brentford have another throw in.
00:49:23And it's in Coyote range.
00:49:26So, we're into the four added.
00:49:37In it goes from Coyote.
00:49:39Up go the heads.
00:49:41My thought to Janelt.
00:49:42It didn't quite.
00:49:42It's Shade.
00:49:44And Hickey.
00:49:46Hickey's shot was way over the bar.
00:49:48There was no deflection there.
00:49:50A few shouts for handball, I think.
00:49:52And it's just to be a natural position for Guardiola, which it clearly was.
00:49:59And Pep Guardiola has his 250th Premier League victory as Manchester City manager.
00:50:06Brentford nil.
00:50:07City won.
00:50:09Many things, I like it.
00:50:11I know that there are things I can do better.
00:50:15But I make a fantastic first half.
00:50:18One of the best since many, many months.
00:50:21And the problem is in Premier League.
00:50:23We're going to score the second and the third.
00:50:24It always can happen that they push more.
00:50:26And, yeah, we are there.
00:50:27And especially our game is better and better and better.
00:50:30You scored a dozen goals now this season.
00:50:32I'm wondering where I'd need to put my money.
00:50:33Harry Kane or Erling Haaland for the European Golden Boot.
00:50:37Could be a few others involved.
00:50:39But you're both off to a good start.
00:50:40Don't forget Kylian as well.
00:50:41He had a great start as well.
00:50:43So, they're doing amazing.
00:50:45So, I need to try to keep up.
00:50:47I felt second half.
00:50:47We were a better team.
00:50:48And I think when you look at the 90 minutes, one team scored a very good chance that they had.
00:50:54We didn't take ours.
00:50:56And the second half, we grew on confidence.
00:50:58And I felt we made it the type again that we wanted it to be.
00:51:01So, that one big chance that they had when Igor Thiago is away, as a centre-forward, you're one-on-one with Donnarumma.
00:51:08Is that a little bit different from being one-on-one with somebody else?
00:51:11Yeah, it's definitely.
00:51:12And he's so big.
00:51:14And he's the best keeper in the world.
00:51:16He just got the trophy at the Ballon d'Or.
00:51:18So, knowing that you're against the biggest keeper in the world is, of course, motivation.
00:51:25But it's also a more difficult task.
00:51:28Even as the best keeper in the world, it wasn't necessarily a brilliant performance for him.
00:51:32There wasn't that much required for him in this game today.
00:51:36But does he bring a presence to Manchester City in goal?
00:51:40Yeah, I think he does.
00:51:41We've just looked at Erling Haaland.
00:51:42And you look at him in front of goal now.
00:51:44And he's just got that aura.
00:51:45He looks like he's going to score.
00:51:46I think Donnarumma started so well for Manchester City.
00:51:49And as Erling touched on there, he's definitely got that aura through.
00:51:52One-on-one with Igor Thiago here.
00:51:54As soon as Guardiola, who barely put a foot wrong today, by the way, went through, he gave it up.
00:51:59I just thought, there's no way he's scoring.
00:52:00There's no way he's getting that out of his feet and getting it past him.
00:52:04Now, a really important message here for any defenders back at home is Nico O'Reilly.
00:52:08He could quite easily give that up, trot back.
00:52:10But no, he's going to put the pressure on.
00:52:12He's going to heap all the pressure on Igor Thiago.
00:52:15Put running through with Donnarumma, as Erling said, massive person to be.
00:52:21Now, this is the moment he's readjusted.
00:52:22This is the moment he knows he's got him.
00:52:25He just can't quite get it under control.
00:52:27Can't get it out of his feet.
00:52:28He's got that pressure from O'Reilly coming behind him.
00:52:31And as we roll it on here, he knows he's only got two options.
00:52:35And those options are to go around to Donnarumma's right, as O'Reilly cuts off his left, or to dink it over him.
00:52:41And he just needs to press the gap, get to the gap, get up to him, stand big and strong.
00:52:46There it is.
00:52:46Can't get around him.
00:52:48Looks like a relatively simple save in the end.
00:52:51Is that because of Donnarumma's standards that it looks like a simple save?
00:52:55Does he make it a simple save?
00:52:57Well, I think so.
00:52:57But like I say, he smelt blood when Thiago couldn't quite get it under control.
00:53:02So calm.
00:53:02Look at his face.
00:53:03There's no rush.
00:53:04There's no grimace.
00:53:05I know exactly what I need to do.
00:53:06Stand big and strong.
00:53:08Move on.
00:53:08One save.
00:53:09One nil.
00:53:09Off the road.
00:53:10So he has the aura in goal.
00:53:13Erling Haaland has the aura up front for Manchester City.
00:53:16Farming aura points in terms of...
00:53:18I'm sorry, I've lost you on that one.
00:53:20It's a modern reference.
00:53:21But he's got the aura up front for Manchester City.
00:53:25The form that he's in this season, only two times has someone been in better form at the start of the season.
00:53:33And both times, it was Erling Haaland.
00:53:36So he's only been beaten by himself.
00:53:38So with him in this form, how big a title challenge do Manchester City mount?
00:53:44Well, I think I and many others felt, after season's difficulties last season, that they wouldn't be in the title race.
00:53:52If he's playing with this hunger, and he stays this fit, he puts them back in it.
00:53:58Even if they are a bit easier to play against.
00:54:00Because he is unplayable at times when he's got this determination.
00:54:04He's so strong.
00:54:06But then he finds this calmness when he's in those positions.
00:54:09He's got great feet.
00:54:11He gets the ball into really perfect positions for him to finish.
00:54:14And sometimes you see when he's up against really good quality, that they can't cope with that physical presence.
00:54:21He's got to keep getting in the ball.
00:54:23But at this rate, I mean, he's going to hit ridiculous numbers again.
00:54:27Isn't it amazing?
00:54:28I mean, he's got a bit to do to match his own numbers.
00:54:30So it just shows you where he's at.
00:54:33I think he's playing...
00:54:35He looks as rounded as he ever has in a Manchester...
00:54:38When I say rounded, I mean all aspects of his game.
00:54:41The link-up, the reliability, the goals, the running power.
00:54:45He's just a sight to behold at the moment.
00:54:48And the other person around him who's hitting all kinds of unprecedented numbers is Pep Guardiola.
00:54:54Again, we get used to him and we get used to the standards that he's set.
00:54:58But he's reached 250 Premier League wins in 349 games, which is faster than any other Premier League manager.
00:55:05Yeah, look at these numbers.
00:55:07Look at the speed that he's done it.
00:55:08You know, look at the company he's in.
00:55:10As for Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, David Moyes.
00:55:12And do you know what?
00:55:13With those 250 PL wins, he's got six titles as well.
00:55:16Absolutely incredible.
00:55:17Incredible from him, as always.
00:55:20Now, after an impressive win at Chelsea last weekend, Brighton were on the road again at Wolves,
00:55:26who are yet to register a point at home so far this season.
00:55:29Mark Scott was at Molyneux for this one.
00:55:31Wolves got their first point on the board at Spurs last weekend.
00:55:36But Peter Pereira felt they deserved three.
00:55:39And his only change to the team is an enforced one, with the injured Matt Doherty replaced by Jackson Chachoa.
00:55:47Brighton have won the last four Premier League meetings at Molyneux.
00:55:50They bring in Welbeck, Kruda and FIFA, with Feltman and Matoma both out injured, and Ruter moving to the bench.
00:55:57Welbeck scored in both of last season's games between the sides.
00:56:04Brighton are unbeaten in the last seven Premier League meetings between the teams,
00:56:08and with 2-0 winners here in May.
00:56:13Room for Cadilloglu here.
00:56:18Welbeck one way, Minte the other.
00:56:19He's allowed to carry a long way, Cadilloglu.
00:56:21Now Minte and Cadilloglu with the absolute verted touch there that took it out of the path of one of his teammates.
00:56:29This is not good enough from Wolves, though.
00:56:31Backtracking and allowing Brighton to get into the area far too easily.
00:56:38No foul, and Brighton should be in business here.
00:56:45Minte has gone a long way, and has then let himself down with the pass.
00:56:51The Wolves team with Jericho and Epidop whistling when the challenge came in.
00:56:58Santiago Bueno.
00:57:01Juan.
00:57:02Oh, that's a bit naughty from Belieber.
00:57:09And the yellow cards coming out from Gerard Gillett.
00:57:13Don't think that he can really moan about that.
00:57:18Absolutely crunched into the challenge.
00:57:22Oh, and Vito Ferreira has been sent off here.
00:57:25Well, he was unhappy with the earlier move from Brighton, where they felt there was a foul, and Brighton was suddenly away.
00:57:36Vito Ferreira, you can see at the bottom of your screen there, immediately apologising after kicking something towards where the officials are.
00:57:43And now, he will have to watch the rest of the game from the stands.
00:57:48Irresponsible behaviour in the technical area is the official line for it.
00:57:55He's lost his rag, is the more common parlance.
00:57:59Marius delivers.
00:58:02And not cleared.
00:58:03Oh, what a crisis!
00:58:05Off for Brigham for an own goal!
00:58:07And Wolves in front!
00:58:09Peter Ferreira might not have seen it, as he was making his way from the dugout to the stands.
00:58:19Maybe just the slice of luck that Wolverhampton Wanderers need to get their first win under their belts.
00:58:28Brighton don't deal with the initial pull.
00:58:31It's a poor header clear from Welbeck too.
00:58:34And it's an absolutely brilliant effort.
00:58:37Flush on the volley from Minetsi.
00:58:39Credit to Verbruggen initially for getting fingertips to it.
00:58:44And then he's unfortunate as it comes off the bar and onto him and in.
00:58:50Wolves one.
00:58:51Brighton nil.
00:58:54Maybe that red card for Peter Ferreira is drived.
00:58:57Wolves are up to Wanderers up.
00:58:59Here goes Wang.
00:59:02That's a foul by Peter.
00:59:09What can Wolves do from this free kick?
00:59:20It's Hugo Bueno to toss it in.
00:59:22Oh, good try for Frecci!
00:59:23And part Verbruggen this time gets him up on it to send it to safety.
00:59:28Frecci got a pretty clear run at that.
00:59:31Meaty contact but too close to Verbruggen.
00:59:33Luis Miguel, the Vitor Ferreira's assistant, is the man now giving out the instructions from the dugout after the red card to Ferreira in the first half.
00:59:44Vitor Ferreira.
00:59:49Vitor Ferreira.
00:59:49Vitor Ferreira.
00:59:49Vitor Ferreira.
00:59:49Vitor Ferreira.
00:59:51Well defended too.
00:59:54Blasted up her.
00:59:55Sran Larsen to chase and he's got the wrong side of Dunk.
00:59:58On his own for now, Jurgen Sran Larsen.
01:00:03Waiting for the cavalry to arrive.
01:00:05Juan
01:00:07round the corner neatly for Hugo Bueno
01:00:11good shots that John Arias cannot take
01:00:14oh that's a really bad miss
01:00:18it's a perfect pass from Hugo Bueno
01:00:21and far from the perfect finish
01:00:24from John Arias
01:00:26Kadioglu
01:00:36Minter
01:00:38Paul Limbers good and that's a fabulous save by Johnston
01:00:43to keep up Ruter
01:00:45Ruter called it flush
01:00:48Kins have made a much better connection than that
01:00:51tremendous work from Johnston
01:00:52Ruter
01:00:59was impeded
01:01:01I'm not sure what he's complaining about really Andre
01:01:05because he clattered the Brighton forward
01:01:07that's a good try and Johnston has to tip over the top
01:01:14Maxim de Kuyper trying to catch him by surprise there
01:01:18Johnston was still trying to sort out his defence
01:01:21so then they had to backpedal and tip over the top
01:01:23Jürgen Stradlarsen who is about to be taken off
01:01:32looking to make an impact before he is
01:01:34and he's hit the post
01:01:36so close to giving Wolves breathing space
01:01:41and for Bruggen could only stand and watch and hope as it came back off the upright
01:01:46it's a mess
01:01:49Kadioglu it's deep
01:01:54too deep but
01:01:55in fact an unnecessary
01:01:58nudge behind there
01:02:00Kechoa giving away the corner
01:02:03which is taken quickly
01:02:051-1
01:02:06and how costly that corner has proved to be
01:02:10as Jan-Paul Van Hecker heads home for Brighton
01:02:14Wolves so close yet again
01:02:16to their first Premier League win of the season
01:02:19but a late Brighton goal
01:02:22has denied them
01:02:24Wolverhampton Wanderers 1
01:02:26Brighton and Hove Albion 1
01:02:28as Wolves are left through
01:02:30what might have been for the second weekend running
01:02:34First of all I want to apologise what happened with Victor
01:02:40it was a frustration with one thing that happened in the game
01:02:46so nothing that Victor wants to do
01:02:50but he was in one second here
01:02:52nothing against Brighton or the referees
01:02:55it was with our team
01:02:57and first of all I want to apologise because Victor is not like that
01:03:01How difficult was it for you not having the manager in the dugout
01:03:03when instructions were having to be relayed via the assistants?
01:03:07I think it's always difficult for him also
01:03:08because when you are on the ground you can easily pass on the information
01:03:11and I think we tried our best to change the system
01:03:13especially the way that they were playing
01:03:15but unfortunately it's part of the game
01:03:17and we just have to keep pushing forward
01:03:19I think we deserve more
01:03:20but it's football
01:03:21we have to accept it
01:03:23we have to do better the next time
01:03:24but overall I saw a team that had the belief
01:03:27in the quality
01:03:28the belief that we can always score goals
01:03:31so a lot of positives to take away
01:03:33and of course we can't be happy with the result
01:03:35but we have to keep pushing
01:03:36Wolves made changes defensively throughout the game
01:03:40did that cost them in the end do you think?
01:03:42Yeah I think so
01:03:43they ended up sitting deep
01:03:44they started really well
01:03:45they started in a four
01:03:46and they look really positive
01:03:47you know they had a good performance at Tottenham last week
01:03:50and as we see them lining up here
01:03:51when they do line up with the four
01:03:53they are able to get on the front foot
01:03:55nice and congested through the middle
01:03:57making it difficult for Brighton to play
01:03:59they look like they're ready to pounce
01:04:00they're high up the pitch
01:04:01always looking for an opportunity
01:04:04can they turn it over
01:04:05and Brighton needs to be perfect
01:04:06and they managed to turn it over in this circumstance
01:04:09but there's always bodies around the ball
01:04:11seeing clip here
01:04:14that four
01:04:16taking that run
01:04:17runs trying to get through
01:04:18turning it over early
01:04:19and they're able to get on the front foot again
01:04:21Molyneux at its best
01:04:22when Wolves are on the front foot
01:04:23creating chances
01:04:25Quang crossing doesn't come to anything here
01:04:27now I mentioned Quang before
01:04:28this is the second half
01:04:29this is a big moment in the game
01:04:31because this is what prompts the change
01:04:33I've got Buena playing it right back
01:04:35Rutter and Gruder have decided to double up on him
01:04:38and as the clip just unfolds
01:04:42drops to Rutter
01:04:43incredible save from Sam Johnson
01:04:44straight away
01:04:45Pereira wherever he is in the stadium
01:04:47he said get Agbedou on
01:04:48get Quang
01:04:49and he's saying
01:04:50are we playing a three mister
01:04:51absolutely not
01:04:52this is a five
01:04:53we're trying to get the 1-0 win today
01:04:54and there's nothing wrong with that
01:04:56in the Premier League
01:04:57if you believe in your system
01:04:58and you believe in your players
01:04:59alright you're not able to get bodies out
01:05:02but you're going to say
01:05:02you know we're having a tough run
01:05:03we need to get the win
01:05:05we dig in
01:05:06you put big challenges like that
01:05:07now this is what you can't have
01:05:10this is at the end of the game
01:05:12Chachoa
01:05:13communicating with Sam Johnston
01:05:15and straight away
01:05:16he's Sam Johnston
01:05:17you can see he's not happy
01:05:18could have avoided that
01:05:19but you need to switch on
01:05:20if you're going to play a five
01:05:21not a problem
01:05:22but get switched on
01:05:23fair play at Brighton
01:05:24that was their one opportunity
01:05:26great header
01:05:27don't know who scored it
01:05:28Van Hecker's going to get the praise
01:05:29but Sam Johnston's showing
01:05:31that at the Premier League
01:05:32you can be as defensive as you want
01:05:34if you switch off for one second
01:05:35you'll get found out
01:05:36and again it costs Wolves
01:05:39a couple of points
01:05:40in this run of form
01:05:41that they're in
01:05:42in which they've only got
01:05:42two points so far
01:05:43in the Premier League
01:05:45when you look at how they started
01:05:47last season
01:05:47under Gary O'Neill
01:05:48that led to him
01:05:49losing his job
01:05:51it's not far off
01:05:53where they are at the moment
01:05:54they've got big games coming up
01:05:55particularly against
01:05:56Sunderland and Burnley
01:05:57and then they've got
01:05:58then they've got Fulham away
01:05:59but there's a chance
01:06:00potentially for them
01:06:01to get their first win
01:06:02they will hope
01:06:03they'll have to
01:06:04it's been a disappointing start
01:06:05I think the last two weeks
01:06:07the last two performances
01:06:07sorry
01:06:08in the last week
01:06:08have been much better
01:06:09they've had a lot of new players
01:06:11I actually think today
01:06:14he did the right thing
01:06:15actually
01:06:15because if he'd have gone
01:06:16toe for toe with Brighton
01:06:17for the remainder of that second half
01:06:19they could have ended up
01:06:19losing the game
01:06:20I know sometimes fans
01:06:21get a bit pessimistic
01:06:22regarding teams dropping off
01:06:24and defending
01:06:25but when you haven't won
01:06:25for so long
01:06:26it didn't work out
01:06:27but I understood why
01:06:28well if you've missed

01:07:29Semenyau coming in
01:07:31and his wonderful
01:07:33style continues
01:07:33it's a big gap
01:07:37where the left back
01:07:38used to be
01:07:39that's Matty's
01:07:40tail
01:07:40oh there was a gap
01:07:41and he found it
01:07:43Boba
01:07:45that's a good ball
01:07:47it was just behind
01:07:47Calvert-Lewin
01:07:48it's a good strike
01:07:49from Aronson
01:07:50and it's a tap-in

01:08:32and in behind
01:08:34that Liverpool
01:08:34back line
01:08:35and what a goal
01:08:36that is
01:08:36oh that's an
01:08:37absolute beauty
01:08:38from Caicedo
01:08:39Pucurella
01:08:46Gampo scores
01:08:47for Liverpool
01:08:48somewhat against
01:08:50the run of play

01:09:25it's 2-0
01:09:27as routine
01:09:29a win
01:09:29as you're
01:09:29going to get
01:09:30victory for
01:09:34Arsenal
01:09:34in Mikel Arteta's
01:09:36300th game
01:09:37in charge of them
01:09:38and when you
01:09:39look at the
01:09:40comparison
01:09:40with the other
01:09:41managers
01:09:41who are around
01:09:43him
01:09:43the difference
01:09:45between Mikel Arteta
01:09:46and the managers
01:09:47that are above him
01:09:48is very obvious
01:09:50and that's in
01:09:50winning major
01:09:51trophies
01:09:52with the club
01:09:53Danny is this
01:09:55the season
01:09:56given the start
01:09:57that Arsenal
01:09:58have made
01:09:58their one point
01:09:59clear as we head
01:09:59into the international
01:10:00break
01:10:00I think he's got
01:10:02the best
01:10:04toolkit he's ever
01:10:05had in terms
01:10:06of depth
01:10:07quality
01:10:08in all areas
01:10:09of the pitch
01:10:09they're not
01:10:10concerned now
01:10:11as much
01:10:11defensively
01:10:11with the two
01:10:12centre-halves
01:10:12they've brought
01:10:13in
01:10:13so much talent
01:10:15in attacking
01:10:16areas
01:10:16they've had
01:10:18injuries already
01:10:19and there's been
01:10:20no problem
01:10:20they look
01:10:21strong
01:10:22they look
01:10:22organised
01:10:23they look
01:10:23full of
01:10:24confidence
01:10:24I don't
01:10:27see
01:10:27what excuse
01:10:29they could
01:10:29have for not
01:10:30winning it
01:10:30this time
01:10:31he's got a
01:10:33hell of a
01:10:33chance
01:10:33and they've
01:10:34got to find
01:10:34a way
01:10:35getting over
01:10:35the line
01:10:35otherwise
01:10:36of course
01:10:36the questions
01:10:37will be
01:10:37asked
01:10:37but
01:10:37it's a
01:10:39hell of a
01:10:39squad
01:10:39and they're
01:10:41going to be
01:10:41up there
01:10:41for sure
01:10:42the trophy
01:10:43that they've
01:10:43won is the
01:10:43FA Cup
01:10:44in a partial
01:10:44season in which
01:10:45Mikel Arteta
01:10:46was in charge
01:10:46they've come
01:10:47close so many
01:10:48times as Danny
01:10:49was saying
01:10:49in the Premier
01:10:50League
01:10:50and the phrase
01:10:52winning mentality
01:10:52is one that's
01:10:54overused and
01:10:54probably misunderstood
01:10:56how close can
01:10:58you get to
01:10:58describing what
01:10:59that is Joe
01:11:00in terms of
01:11:00winning a
01:11:01Premier League
01:11:01title
01:11:01it's one of
01:11:04those if you
01:11:04could bottle it
01:11:05and sell it
01:11:05it would be
01:11:05worth
01:11:06you know
01:11:07well
01:11:08it would be
01:11:08priceless
01:11:09but he's put
01:11:11himself in a
01:11:11position
01:11:12I look at
01:11:12him and
01:11:12obviously
01:11:13this is his
01:11:14first job
01:11:14so it's an
01:11:15incredible effort
01:11:15to do what
01:11:16he's doing
01:11:16but for him
01:11:17to be in
01:11:17that company
01:11:17and be
01:11:18sat at the
01:11:19top table
01:11:19he has to
01:11:20follow up
01:11:21what is that
01:11:21recipe
01:11:22really really
01:11:23difficult
01:11:23it's the
01:11:23hard work
01:11:24it's the
01:11:24dedication
01:11:24he's proven
01:11:25that
01:11:25he's got
01:11:25new ideas
01:11:26Danny talked
01:11:27about the
01:11:27squad that
01:11:28he's assembled
01:11:28but you've
01:11:29got to get
01:11:30over the line
01:11:30and it's in
01:11:31those kind of
01:11:31dark days
01:11:32those dark
01:11:32months
01:11:33those kind
01:11:33of Januaries
01:11:34Februaries
01:11:34those little
