00:00The stage for this big set-piece final, the Braden Stadium in Mumbai.
00:05Team news was of both sides making one change.
00:08The West Indies brought in Colomore to bolster their seam bowling, dropping Smith.
00:12Australia went the other way.
00:14Hogg recalled for his spin Mitchell Johnson, the man to miss out.
00:17Let's get to the action then.
00:19The West Indies are batting, and first of all in the commentary box, Damian Fleming was with Jeremy Coney.
00:30First ball of the 2006 Champions Trophy final.
00:37And a runaway.
00:45Just wide of a diving Clark.
00:48First boundary of the innings.
00:54Chandapur more runs, another boundary.
00:57This one more controlled.
01:00Wow.
01:06He's just dragged that and fetched it from just outside the off stump.
01:11Gone hard.
01:13And in the air and over third man.
01:16Everyone was looking for that.
01:20Chandapur went leg side and got that top edge.
01:23It's gone for six.
01:24Well.
01:32The power.
01:38Ball dragged it on.
01:41Just what Australia wanted.
01:43No, they certainly need that.
01:45Nathan Bracken with the breakthrough.
01:49Which he's done all through this series.
01:53Chandapur just tried to make some room for himself.
01:55But it's also been another sign of the tournament.
01:58There's been a lot of play-ons.
02:02See how far he is down the wicket.
02:05But a potential brutal innings has come to an end.
02:08Australia hopefully now will be able to dry up the runs.
02:12Chandapur out for 27.
02:1449 for one.
02:15Well, the one-hander.
02:23Someone's joined the party.
02:2650 up.
02:28Been an amazing year, too, Ron.
02:32Good heavens.
02:33That's a six off Glenn McGrath in his opening over.
02:39The West Indies, after seven overs, have raced on to 63 for one.
02:48Chipped up in the air and comfortably taken.
02:52So, Bracken picks up his second wicket.
02:56Sarwan's dismissed for just seven.
02:58Doesn't usually take long for the Australians to bite back.
03:0165 for two now.
03:02I just put a little bit of a different complexion on the game.
03:05It's just a slow ball from Bracken.
03:07Rolling his fingers down the outside of it, it seems to me.
03:10And it obviously worked.
03:12Sarwan getting a leading edge.
03:14So, clever bowling, I think.
03:15Because he's taking pace off the ball.
03:19And Bracken has now picked up the first two wickets to fall.
03:22First Chandapur now Sarwan to seven.
03:2465 for two.
03:32Well, well, well, well.
03:35You don't often see McGrath getting treatment like this.
03:42Gone after that as well.
03:45Another boundary.
03:46Problems here for Ricky Ponting in Australia.
03:48Smashed away through extra cover this time.
03:53McGrath overcompensating.
03:58Well, he's done it again Nathan Bracken.
04:01Another change of pace completely deceives Chris Gayle.
04:05Whether Gale's concentration was disturbed by that run-out possibility with Dwayne Bravo.
04:12No matter.
04:13Gale goes for 37.
04:15Bracken fighting back single-handedly for the Aussies.
04:19It's 80 for three.
04:20Wicket's the best way to slow things down.
04:28And Bracken has done that three times here.
04:31And the West Indies losing wickets.
04:33That will slow their good progress.
04:34Chris Gayle gone for 37.
04:3680 for three.
04:38That's it.
04:39It's then taken by Gilchrist.
04:42So, Glenn McGrath has got the big wicket of Brian Lara.
04:45And you would have to say the Australians have fought back and are on top at this stage.
04:51Yes, they clearly have the edge now.
04:53What a blow.
04:54Brian Lara.
04:56And once again, Glenn McGrath getting rid of a top quality batsman in a top quality game.
05:02Courtesy Adam Gilchrist's brilliance.
05:05There's no slip in place.
05:07He had to go for that one.
05:08Low catch.
05:09And Glenn McGrath really has made a huge dent now in the West Indies batting lineup.
05:15Brian Lara goes for 288 for four West Indies.
05:19Catch!
05:20Good shot.
05:21Very good shot.
05:27Gone.
05:30It's a cheeky little smile from Watson and Ricky punting.
05:35And Samuels is gone.
05:36Imagine when Shane Watson delivered this ball as it's going halfway down, he would have thought,
05:43Oh, no, I pitched that on big slow-eyed.
05:46But he's got himself a wicket.
05:48Samuels has fallen across and hit it in the air.
05:52Another wicket for a batsman hero.
05:53He knows it's a bonus, Shane Watson.
05:55Look at him.
05:55But you're taken when you're bowling.
05:57Samuels out for seven.
05:59The West Indies is 113 for six.
06:01This is well-timed.
06:06This is a quick arc-field.
06:07Well, no stroke played and another one's gone.
06:16Alim Dar has no doubt about that.
06:18Well, what was Dwayne Bravo thinking of here?
06:23Playing no stroke at it at all and just thrusting the leg gives the bowler every chance.
06:27Bravo's gone now.
06:31You're falling like ninepins.
06:33It's 125 for eight.
06:37Well, Lee has the final word.
06:44Huge sigh of relief from Adam Gilchrist as Bradshaw departs for seven.
06:51Well, having forced Bradshaw back, the weight went back as well.
06:55And so he was very late to go at this one from Brett Lee, which was a foolish delivery.
07:00So several short ones and then very full and just off the bat and then into the stumps once again.
07:08So delight for the Australians.
07:10It's just continued and you can see the desolation on the face of Ian Bradshaw always gives it 100% for his team.
07:16136 for nine.
07:22Well, there is a direct hit.
07:25Alim Dar is asking the question.
07:29Billy Bowden's a TV replay umpire.
07:34And Australia think they've got their man here.
07:38And that just about sums up this West Indies innings.
07:42Complete collapse.
07:4349 for no wicket after five overs.
07:46They've been bowled out by Australia for 138.
07:52Sloppy cricket by Corey Collymore.
07:55Sent back by Taylor.
07:56Too slow to turn.
07:59The Queen Mary would have got round quicker than that.
08:02And he's been run out without scoring.
08:05The West Indies troop off having been bowled out after winning the toss for 138.
08:13Well, the West Indies are past master at it and they did it in spades this time.
08:20What a collapse.
08:21They got off to the dream start through Chandapal and Gale.
08:24They had 80 on the ball inside the first 10.
08:27But then they started losing wickets and they ended up in a terminal nosedive that saw them all out for 138.
08:33It was a complete shambles, really.
08:35But from an Australian point of view, a fantastic comeback.
08:38And in particular, look at McGrath's figures.
08:40Seven overs, three maidens, two for 24.
08:42Get wisdom down in 10, 15 years' time.
08:45You won't see anything too remarkable in those figures.
08:46But consider his first two overs went for 22.
08:51His next five, and he dragged it back brilliantly, two for two.
08:54An outstanding performance by a great bowler.
08:57Overall position then, after one innings of this Champions Trophy final,
09:01West Indies bowled out for 138.
09:03Australia needed 139 to win the game and their first ever title in the Champions Trophy.
09:10Now, Chris Gale has had the better of the Australians in mind games and otherwise also.
09:16So, not a bad choice, Ravi.
09:19He's got to try something, hope for the best.
09:21He's not defending a big score, that's for sure.
09:27Now, Gilchrist on strike.
09:31One thing with the spinners bowling early on, the margin for error.
09:38That's picked away on the onside and it will race away to the boundary.
09:42It's been taken by Gilchrist.
09:50This is what the West Indies wanted.
09:52Bradshaw has found the outside edge of Adam Gilchrist.
09:56And West Indies draw first blood.
09:58It certainly has got the smiles back on their faces.
10:01Not a great shot and effort from Adam Gilchrist.
10:05Guiding the ball to Chris Gale who missed it, but his broad frame made sure that he hung on to the ball.
10:13So, the change working well for West Indies.
10:14Bradshaw has once again disengaged the opening partnership.
10:19Gone for two, Adam Gilchrist.
10:20West Australia, one for 12.
10:24That's wrapped on the pads and the finger will go up.
10:31Their stadium has erupted.
10:36Australia have lost their captain and their second wicket.
10:38Terrific piece of bowling from Taylor.
10:45Look at this length up.
10:47And Ricky Ponting with a high back lift moving across the line of that ball.
10:51And that ball would have gone on to hit the middle stump.
10:54Rudy Cuts and raised his slow finger to award the decision in favor of the West Indies.
10:59And what a wicket.
11:00Ricky Ponting gone for naught.
11:01Australia two down for 13.
11:03Lovely shot.
11:07The middle of the bat gets there.
11:09Good connection.
11:14Nice shot.
11:15Nice shot.
11:15The balance I think was perfect.
11:18And the timing superb.
11:20Very classic from Watson.
11:2236 for two.
11:26Superbly played.
11:27Really superb piece of timing.
11:30Surely it couldn't cross the boundary.
11:32It was a push.
11:33It really was.
11:35Well that's remarkable.
11:37So after ten overs of their innings,
11:40Australia had reached 45 for two
11:41and also reached the scheduled mid-innings break.
11:44So of course everybody trooped off.
11:46And it's just as well they did really
11:47because the rain and the electrical storm
11:49which had been hovering around the Brabant Stadium
11:51appeared and proceeded to dump
11:54quite a lot of water on top of the ground.
11:56And there was a three-hour break
11:58before the umpires got together
11:59and even the Australian team came out
12:02and helped in the mopping up operation.
12:03So keen were they
12:04to try and get the game finished
12:06on the given day.
12:09The revised playing conditions
12:10when they did come out
12:11was a target of 116
12:13in 35 overs.
12:15And as far as the bowlers were concerned
12:17it was a maximum of seven overs per side
12:19with just one more power play at this stage
12:21for the West Indies to take
12:22of four overs.
12:27Lovely shot.
12:31And poor piece of fielding
12:32will give Martin the boundary.
12:37That's past the keeper
12:38and should be third man.
12:48That's four.
12:51That's a good shot.
12:54No need to run for that.
12:57Not a great opportunity
12:58for all the young players
13:00that are going to play against England.
13:01It will be a packed house.
13:07That's 50 for Shane Watson.
13:10Then a controlled knock.
13:14He's done everything asked
13:15of him the second 50 for the tournament.
13:17The 81 balls.
13:25And it's falling apart a little.
13:28Marlon Samuels miss fields.
13:32There it is.
13:38Watson ensures that he gets down
13:39to the other end
13:40as convincingly as possible.
13:43Hugs all around
13:43because Australia came here
13:46to play in this tournament.
13:47The only trophy
13:49that they haven't won.
13:51And Ricky Ponting
13:52ensured
13:52that he kept
13:53the zest,
13:55the zeal.
13:56The concentration,
13:57the focus going all the way through.
13:59Brown Lauer and his men.
14:00Well, they were
14:01not at their best today.
14:04They were outgunned.
14:05They've had a good run
14:07in this Champions Trophy.
14:08They came
14:08into the tournament
14:10in number eight position.
14:11Got all the way
14:12to the final
14:12against the world champions.
14:14The Australian and boy,
14:15Damien Fleming,
14:16they deserve it.
14:17So the final
14:18that was played
14:18on November the 5th
14:19and was anticipated
14:20to be full of fireworks
14:21ended up a bit
14:22of a damp squib
14:23as Australia
14:24cantered home easily
14:25with loads of time
14:26overs and wickets
14:27to spare.
14:28115 for two
14:29their Duckworth-Lewis
14:30revised target
14:31and Watson and Martin
14:32got there
14:32without any trouble
14:33at all.
14:34Watson's 57,
14:35the sign of an increasingly
14:36mature young player.
14:38For the West Indies,
14:39well, huge disappointment
14:40for them.
14:41None of their bowlers
14:42could really get going.
14:43Taylor and Bradshaw,
14:44the two seamers
14:44who'd done so much
14:45throughout the tournament,
14:46picked up a consolation
14:47wicket each.
14:48But make no bones
14:48about it,
14:49this was a drubbing
14:50which the West Indies
14:51really hadn't expected
14:52or even wanted.
14:54Australia winning
14:54by eight wickets.
