'No Kings' demonstrators unite in Boston as calls grow for tougher stance against Trump

Protesters spanning all age groups took to the streets en masse for "No Kings" rallies across the United States on Saturday, October 18, denouncing what they view as authoritarian tendencies and unbridled corruption of US President Donald Trump.

Organizers expected millions of people to turn out by day's end at more than 2,600 planned rallies in major cities, small towns and suburbs, challenging a Trump-led agenda that has reshaped the government and upended democratic norms with unprecedented speed since he took office in January.

By all accounts, the demonstrations were largely festive, often featuring inflatable characters and marchers dressed in costumes. The demographically mixed crowds included parents pushing youngsters in strollers alongside retirees and people with pets in tow.

Events in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Denver, Chicago and Seattle also drew crowds that each appeared to encompass thousands, if not tens of thousands, of people.

00:00Your name's all the money for the year.
00:04I want people.
00:08I want people.
00:10And I want people.
00:12I want people.
00:16Where did it come?
00:18Where did it come?
00:20That was like.
00:24Yes.
00:30Everybody is in a good mood.
00:38I've had my picture taken with Pepe LaFrog.
00:42And unicorns and the inflatables have been dancing to the music.
00:49It's our job to speak when they want to silence us.
00:52It's our job to help those who can't help themselves.
00:55And we need to speak while we are still allowed to.
00:58Do whatever you can to help your country guys.
01:02I go to Simmons University.
01:04Yes I do.
01:06I'm studying psychology.
01:08So I know this is messed up.
01:10What brings me here today is I see what's going on in our country.
01:14And I'm just appalled by the administration and just everything they are doing.
01:21And the cowardice of so many Democrats to stop it.
01:25And I think that we need to make our voices heard.
01:31Because the people want things done.
01:33And Chuck Schumer and his cronies do not.
01:37And the other thing that I think is with him is it's so inconsistent to the point where our systems don't work if you're run by someone who just goes off intuition and not off facts.
01:43So like you can't survive a system that is continuously changing based on the whim of a person who kind of associates himself with billionaires and doesn't do the right thing for the people.
01:55I've seen collaboration and community and people looking to get involved.
02:01It's been incredible.
02:02I've seen a lot of joy, incredible funny signs, people who are educated.
02:06So shout out to Massachusetts for having educated folks who care about democracy and show up.
02:10Everyone wants to take pictures with the Boston lobster, but it's been extremely safe event.
02:16Everyone's getting along, even with the police.
02:18It's been very nice out today.
