00:00And now it's time for a look back at the week and I'm joined by Perth's Lord Mayor Lisa
00:08Scavidi and Peter Kerr from the Finn Review. Welcome to you both. Thank you. Now we've had
00:14some big appointments for this Chogham meeting in Perth. Lisa what is the Perth City Council
00:19doing to prepare for such a huge event? Well obviously given the strong city focus that
00:24will be apparent during that time with the meeting being held in the city area the city
00:29will be under great scrutiny but obviously needing to perform very strongly. Are we ready? I believe
00:34we will be. We will be putting the best face forward that we can for the city at that time
00:39and that will include everything from floral plantings through to lots of flags hopefully
00:44great lighting on some of our facades and generally you know putting our best foot forward at this
00:50time for the world to see us. I guess my only concern is that look nothing against Richard
00:55Muirhead the former tourism WA boss who was appointed to oversee the government's response
01:00to Chogham but I'm a bit worried we've lost a lot of high profile events lately is there a danger
01:05next June someone might come up with a press release saying sorry WA you've lost Chogham it's going to
01:09Paris. I was thinking more so that the event was just a sort of way to get all these leaders to have
01:15a great holiday in Western Australia maybe this is tourism's new strategy. Well no better place to
01:19holiday as far as I'm concerned. Yeah there probably will be a few crazy uncles at the last
01:23time Chogham came to Australia the Ugandan president was asked there was a big focus on HIV at the time
01:28and he was asked you know how you're dealing with a new country he goes oh it's no problem because
01:32we don't have a homosexual population in Uganda it's like crazy uncle time. That's one of those moments
01:39also where you also you look at the strange shirts you know everyone goes to the Pacific Islands for
01:43him recently and Stephen Smith was caught in a somewhat forgettable shirt but look um on this
01:50weekend is obviously election time and it's the first time that we've had such a incredibly tight
01:56race um Lisa how are you seeing it play out? Well you know it just concerns me that it has been run
02:02in such a presidential style and there hasn't really in my opinion been enough of a focus on the
02:07reminding the general public that they really need to look at who is their local member and that at the
02:12end of the day they are voting for their local representative and what is that person going to
02:16do for their local community? I think it's interesting you say that because I think uh the major parties
02:22are keenly aware that it ultimately does come down to the marginal seats and their suggestions uh you
02:28know for example that Tim Hammond in Swan because he's got the number one ballot uh he may actually just
02:34get across the line simply because of that small fact Kim Wilkie it was believed in the last election
02:38lost it just on that on that basis what's really interesting I think this weekend the last weekend
02:42of the campaign is the is the ghost of these former leaders still keeps haunting uh the the
02:48two sort of uh supposed uh prime ministerial candidates uh we've got John Howard coming to
02:53WA to sort of support Don Randall in canning another marginal seat uh we've got you know Mark Latham
02:58and Kevin Rudd uh appearing on on various tv networks it's it's really interesting because
03:03Kevin Rudd probably in this whole campaign is the actual is the most interesting uh candidate out
03:08there and he's not actually you know running for high office are you going to be tuning in this
03:11weekend Lisa yes to the Kevin Rudd story not the Mark Latham one yes do you think I mean do you
03:18think as a female you're not a politician but you're in the public realm you would have been intimidated
03:22if Latham show had come to town look I just think you know it's really sad when you see uh people who
03:28were previously seeking public life and not able to exit stage left gracefully I just think he had his
03:34time it didn't work out as he obviously wanted it to but he really does need to move on and not
03:40spoil it for other people well look one one last thing to leave you with we saw Julie Bishop going
03:46to extremes to try to get a vote cane toads what happened to kissing babies well good on Julie I mean
03:52it is such a significant issue and uh the person leading the charge there with the cane toad debate
03:58Graham Sawyer uh is actually also the Lord Mayor of Darwin so through conversations I've had with him
04:04I have actually learned how serious an issue it is and of course Western Australia also has a lot
04:09to fear with the uh infiltration of the cane toads already up in Kununurra it certainly shows how brave
04:15Julie is though because not only is she prepared to kiss a very ugly creature she's also prepared to
04:20reveal on national television that she's a really crap dancer no offense but man that was a pretty good
04:26oh she's going to all links look thank you both of you very much for your time pleasure
