00:00My question will be, you know, tomorrow's match is a very top match because India not only batting well,
00:11even they have backed up by 30,000 crowd. How does England prepare for tomorrow's match?
00:18Well, we've been lucky that we've played a lot against India over the last 12 months and obviously in the English summer.
00:25So we've got lots of experience playing against India, but this is, I guess, a one-off game now, isn't it?
00:33In India, in a World Cup, a massive game tomorrow, which we're all looking forward to and we'll be preparing like any other game.
00:42We know the threats of India, but equally, you know, we've got some wonderful players within our group.
00:49So I'm sure it's set up for a fantastic game here tomorrow.
00:55Considering that you've lost the series last time we played India and also the collapse in the last match,
01:05both the factors would sort of play your mind into this clash?
01:08What collapse?
01:13Joke.
01:14No, like, you seriously, in a tournament like this, you have to forget about things quite quickly.
01:20We've obviously reviewed that last game. Pakistan played really well.
01:24But, yeah, like, we're not dwelling on that. We're focusing on India.
01:29And we know from the summer how tough a challenge India are going to be and certainly in home conditions.
01:35But that's exciting. It's exciting to be here tomorrow in front of a massive crowd, I'm sure, who will all be supporting India.
01:42And, yeah, and two points up for grabs for both teams and two important points up for both teams.
01:48So there's just this real sense of excitement around our group and not thinking too much about what's happened.
01:54Just one word for me.
01:57Granti was quite successful against India.
02:01So I haven't been studying to her more.
02:04And I was sort of happy with the way Indian fast bowlers come and sort of, you know, taken the cricket world by storm that way.
02:12Yeah, I mean, I met Granti when I was at Mumbai.
02:15She was a net bowler two years ago.
02:17So to see her rise now to playing for India and performing the way she does, you know, we'll be focusing on all of their bowlers.
02:25I think they've got a very good bowling attack.
02:27But, you know, Granti had a brilliant English summer and she'll be someone to watch out for tomorrow.
02:37Hello, Coach.
02:38My question to you is regarding the left-arm spinners.
02:40Like, in this World Cup, we have seen a trend that left-arm spinners are ruling the roost in the wicket-taking charge.
02:45So could you just talk a bit about, like, what is the reason behind left-arm spinners being amongst wicket in this World Cup?
02:51And also a word on how crucial Lindsay Smith and Sophie Eccleston are going to be in tomorrow's clash,
02:57considering that India had vulnerabilities against left-arm spinners before.
03:01Yeah, it's, you know, I think left-arm spin has been quite prolific in women's cricket over the last few years.
03:07Probably more in the T20 format.
03:08But I think with this tournament being in India, you know, our reasons for picking two left-arm spinners
03:13because they knew they'd be really effective.
03:15And, you know, we've got two of the best in the world and, well, certainly the best in the world in Sophie Eccleston.
03:20I think she bowls superbly against Sri Lanka.
03:22So it would be great to have her back out here tomorrow performing well.
03:25But, yeah, I think it's just one of those bowling styles that's been hugely effective.
03:32And, yeah, I'm glad we've got the two we've got, to be fair.
03:36Hi, Charlotte.
03:39You've been in a familiar, like, you're seven months down the line.
03:43You're back in India, again, answering, taking questions from the press.
03:46And the other similarities, you have Nat Siva Brunt and Benji with you with Harmanpreet in the opposite camp.
03:53What are your, how do you, like, look at this battle,
03:55given you are up in a high-stakes clash against someone who you've worked with a lot for three years,
04:02formed a successful combination leadership group?
04:05How do you look at this contest in that sense?
04:08Yeah, I've obviously got a huge amount of respect for Harman,
04:10but we're on different teams tomorrow.
04:12So, you know, that's what, you know, I guess high-level sport's all about, isn't it?
04:17But I know we're fiercely competitive, both of us, all of us, you know,
04:23and it's, these are the occasions you want to play in or be part of as a player and as a coaching staff.
04:29So, yeah, we've done all our prep, trained tonight,
04:33and we'll be ready to go tomorrow, and may the best team win.
04:39And your thoughts on England's lower middle order?
04:42There's a lot of pressure on Sophia Dunkley, Alice Capcey, and Emma Lam,
04:46and they all have managed to keep someone as experienced as Danny White-Hodge out.
04:51At what point does she start to come into the conversation?
04:54At what point do they, those in the 11, start to feel the pressure,
04:58especially given the collapses that we've seen this work on?
05:01Yeah, I think, you know, Danny's obviously a very experienced batter,
05:05and that's why she's been picked in this squad.
05:07But, you know, going into this tournament, Emma Lam, Sophia Dunkley,
05:11and Alice Capcey performed brilliantly throughout our warm-up phases,
05:15and the back end of our English summer.
05:17So, yeah, it's hugely competitive.
05:20But, you know, we're obviously really happy with how our order is performing.
05:26You know, you can't go off the back of two games.
05:29I think, you know, this is a great game to be part of,
05:33and, you know, we want to back the batting order that we kind of selected
05:36at the start of the tournament, because that's the one we feel
05:38will give us success, hopefully, in these conditions.
05:42I'm just going to jump in with a few from journalists at home.
05:45Firstly, on behalf of Sonia Twigg at The Telegraph,
05:48it's now been a few days.
05:49How do you reflect on that performance against Pakistan?
05:51Has it given you some things the team need to address,
05:53and if so, what are they?
05:57I think we've spoken about it.
05:59Obviously, we'd be silly not to.
06:02But I think, you know, one of my messages to the team,
06:05we don't want to dwell on it.
06:06But we're going to a new venue against a new team.
06:11And, yeah, we've learned some lessons from the last four
06:14through all facets of our game.
06:17So, you know, but we're in a really good position.
06:19If someone had said to me a few weeks ago
06:22that you'd be in the position you're in,
06:24having been unbeaten, I'd have taken it.
06:26So I think our best cricket is in front of us,
06:29which is the most positive thing for us,
06:31and we're looking forward to that.
06:33And then just one more on a similar theme there
06:35from Oscar S at The Cricketer.
06:37How concerned are you about the batting performance
06:39against Pakistan and the similarities of the dismissals
06:41against in-swing bowling?
06:43I'm not concerned.
06:45I think you have days where it doesn't go particularly well.
06:48I'm disappointed, probably, that we didn't adapt quick enough,
06:52but I'm certainly not concerned.
06:54But, yeah, I think, you know, as I said,
06:57you've got to move on quite quickly in tournament cricket.
07:00I think if you look at South Africa,
07:01the first game of the tournament,
07:03they've bowled out for 70,
07:04and they've played brilliantly since.
07:06So, you know, I think with the top order we've got,
07:09the experience we've got in our top order,
07:12yeah, I think, like I said,
07:13our best cricket is in front of us, I think.
07:15Thanks. Back to those in the room.
07:17Hi, Bruce.
07:19I'm sure you're aware of...
07:20It's more of a follow-up to the left-arm spin question.
07:23I'm sure you're aware of India's vulnerability
07:25against the two left-arm spinners that you have.
07:28And I just wanted to know that how much do such matchups
07:33dominate bowling plans in a lead-up to an important game like this?
07:39They're certainly really important.
07:41I think any sort of advantage you can get over an opposition,
07:44you'll look into.
07:45And obviously, we've got four spinners with us on this trip,
07:48so those type of things we do take into account.
07:52So, yeah, we do know there is a vulnerability there,
07:56and, you know, we've got two left-arm spinners,
07:59which is great that we've got that option to play them.
08:04Any more in the room?
08:05Yeah.
08:06Just to expand on the spinners a bit,
08:09a word about Sophie.
08:10She was out of the team.
08:11There was a lot of noise,
08:12but she seems to be back to her best,
08:14that four-wicket haul especially.
08:16So, how have you seen her come back?
08:19Has anything changed?
08:21If so, what?
08:22And how has she fought her back here?
08:25I just think we're all incredibly proud of Sophie.
08:27You know, she obviously had a tough winter
08:29and worked through some issues.
08:32And I think first and foremost,
08:34we wanted Sophie enjoying her cricket again.
08:36And I think it's really evident to see
08:38that she's enjoying cricket again.
08:40She's probably bowling as well as I've ever seen her,
08:42and that spell against Sri Lanka was unbelievable.
08:44So, yeah, I know she's looking forward to playing tomorrow.
08:48She's over her illness.
08:49And, yeah, really excited to get out there
08:52playing again for England.
08:56I'll go just one more from me.
08:57Like, in India this year,
08:59you were here winning the WPL with the Mumbai Indians
09:01before going to the England set-up now.
09:03So, just want to know,
09:04like, is there any difference in coaching approach
09:06from you when you were at the WPL
09:08and as now compared to being at the England set-up?
09:10Well, I don't coach any differently, no.
09:15You know, I think, yeah,
09:18that's really important to me
09:19that you don't really...
09:21I guess with coaching England,
09:23you're across a lot more formats
09:25and, you know, the WPL is 20-20 focus.
09:29So, but no, you know,
09:31I'm obviously loving the role I'm in now.
09:33I've got a huge passion for English cricket
09:34and really being back...
09:37really enjoying being back in the set-up.
09:42Oh, yeah, hold on.
09:43Yeah.
09:44On Nat, since you've worked with her extensively,
09:48just a word on how different Nat the batter is
09:50and Nat the skipper,
09:52or is there no difference?
09:54There's no difference.
09:55She's very cool, calm and collective,
09:57whether she bats or she bowls or she's captain,
10:00and I think that's what makes Nat, you know,
10:04one of the best players in the world.
10:05I think you can see her calmness
10:07and how she goes about things
10:09and, yeah, she's a wonderful, wonderful captain
10:13and obviously player.
10:16Just a couple more from me
10:17and then I think there's one more
10:18and then we'll finish off.
10:20Can you just confirm that Lauren Bell and Sophie Eccleston
10:22are both over their illnesses
10:23and fit to take part tomorrow?
10:25Yeah, Bell and Eccleston are fit for selection.
10:27And then from George Sessions
10:29at the Press Association,
10:31you've had big contributions
10:32from Nat Silverbrunt and Heather Knight with the bat.
10:34How confident are you
10:35that the other batters will step up
10:36or are you considering a change
10:38to the batting line-up tomorrow?
10:40No, I'm really confident.
10:41I think, you know,
10:43we're four games into a tournament.
10:46You know, one of those games
10:47we were only chasing a lower total.
10:49So, yeah, really, really confident of that order
10:52and performing well, you know,
10:55at a great ground here in Indoor tomorrow.
10:58And then one on Harmanpreet 4.
11:00Harmanpreet is a competitor
11:01who has annoyed you quite a bit in the past.
11:03Not my words.
11:04That 2013 World Cup
11:05saw a century that you got to see firsthand.
11:07You've known her very closely now.
11:09How is the team sizing her up
11:10and the Indian batting order in general
11:12ahead of tomorrow's clash?
11:14We're prepping like any other game.
11:16We look at, you know,
11:17obviously the top seven batters
11:18and look at all their sort of strengths
11:20and weaknesses
11:21and look at match-ups, etc.
11:22So, we'll be preparing for this game
11:24like any other game we play
11:26and not building it up too much.
11:28I know there's going to be a big crowd in here tomorrow,
11:30but that's an exciting proposition for us as a team
11:33and we're looking forward to it.
11:34What was it about her that, you know,
11:40England batters sort of found difficult
11:41to prepare in the summer?
11:44So, six wickets in one game.
11:48What was it that was impressive
11:49about her bowling that you saw in England?
11:51Was it the movement that she generated?
11:53Yeah, she got some decent movement in the summer
11:56and I think on her six wickets,
11:58I think she got some back
11:59at the latter end of an innings
12:01when, you know, we were chasing the 300.
12:03So, but, you know,
12:04she's a really good up-and-coming young bowler
12:06and, you know,
12:08she's obviously performed brilliantly for India
12:10in a short international career so far.
