00:01Before I was a captain, in the 60s and 70s, my father and other industry pioneers caught over 300 million pounds of cane and bared-eye crab, from Atka all the way to Attu, and down the Aleutian chain.
00:17The western grounds were the most productive in American fishing history.
00:22Then the crab disappeared.
00:27But everything's changed.
00:30This is how the fleet and my old man convinced me to head back west, where it all began.
00:54Well, we're back in Dutch Harbor. We are getting ready for the red king crab season.
00:59Now, this is the second year it's been open in a row. And the quotas are bigger. We're up by about a half a million pounds. We're up over 260% for bared-eye for the tanner crab season.
01:12And Apilio are back. So, I mean, everything's moving. All the pistons are running in the engine right now.
01:19There was a video going around of some big king crab that guys were getting out west.
01:25Look at that thing. Look at that thing. Dude, these are some fatties. That's crazy.
01:31These guys were fishing cod, with cod pots out west. Now, whether it was just one pot that they filmed, or many, I don't know.
01:38But the reality is, I mean, guys haven't been out west for decades.
01:45You know, you're talking about the past here. And I mean, back then, yes, it was amazing.
01:51There was millions made out there. But, you're talking about today. And that's history. I mean, there is just an enormous...
02:01I do. Now what?
02:19I've been looking all over for you. You're driving me crazy.
02:23Well, just the boat's right around the corner.
02:25I'm trying to tell you. I'm trying to tell him to meet me at the boat.
02:29Then he tells me, hit the boat. Now, hit that car.
02:32Watch out, old man.
02:34Jonathan!
02:44How many grandbabies you got now?
02:46I mean, are you catching me? I got seven.
02:49You can't catch me. My grandkids are like rabbits.
02:51I didn't know we were competing about grandbabies.
02:53You gotta catch me. Yeah, I'm competing. How many you got?
02:56Number four, five months ago.
02:58Number four, see.
02:59It's kind of fun, though.
03:00Aren't they the best?
03:01They would have to change diapers, and they stink, and they cry.
03:03It's broke. It's broken. Here, take it.
03:05It's so fun.
03:07Oh, yeah.
03:09But anyway.
03:10So where are you going to go fish this year?
03:12I know it's not in your DNA to give up numbers.
03:17I'm thinking of traditional grounds east.
03:19It's on the other side of the ridge, but that's what I was thinking.
03:22I think that there's still big crab right around that edge.
03:25Out west. I'm talking way out here.
03:30There's a big biomass.
03:32These are going to be big crab, a couple pounds heavier.
03:37It's a long way to go.
03:39If you got 100,000 pounds, and it's $25 a pound, that's $2.5 million, dude.
03:44That'll get bomb up there in the pair of shoes.
03:47You're serious. I know you're...
03:50I'm going whether you go or not, but I would just love to have you with me.
03:53I don't trust anybody else, you know?
03:55You're looking at 150, 200,000 square miles. You know that, right?
03:59Yeah, yeah.
04:00And I'm just saying, if you miss, dude, you're starting over.
04:04I could cover the area twice as fast.
04:10I want to go, but I don't want to take the risk.
04:17Well, thanks.
04:19Okay, buddy.
04:20Worst case scenario, reach out on the radio.
04:22And keep working on them grandkids, you know?
04:26Good Lord.
04:27Jonathan wants to go out west and give it a try.
04:30And it's a long journey.
04:32And when you do that, it's an expensive journey.
04:35Justifying that kind of risk is, right now, not worth it for me.
04:40SIG is a third-generation fisherman, and I can trust him.
04:49If you have two boats, you have twice as many pots.
04:51You can cover twice as much ground.
04:53It's a risk, but we could have, like, some of the biggest crab we've seen in years.
04:58But this is going to be me.
05:01Just the bandits.
05:03I mean, there's tens of thousands of dollars just in fuel.
05:08And then if you strike out, it's the time.
05:11And the time is what's important here.
05:13You've got to come back, and you're starting from ground zero.
05:15Why would you take a chance like that?
05:17No, it doesn't pencil out.
05:20It doesn't pencil out.
05:21Hey, get off, get off!
05:47Get off, get off, get off, get off, get off!
05:50All right, Max!
05:51Come over, Max!
05:52Go, go, go, go!
05:56Get up!
05:57Hannity!
05:58Is that everybody?
06:03No, Max!
06:04That's what all these are on, man, Max!
06:20you guys are gonna have to start doing some cardio what's going on what's uh what's up
06:29we drilled roger that was about 55 seconds for everybody to get up here
06:37yeah i was in a good dream a good dream's gonna turn into a badger real quick
06:43you ain't up here in 20 seconds yeah we got two and a half three day steam out west
06:50yeah if everybody's sleeping which is gonna happen yeah it's usually when something happens
06:58if there's a fire it's not gonna take but a minute for this boat to sink
07:05i just want you guys to be ready yes sir good i appreciate all of you all right
07:15it's 2024 it's my second year on the titan explorer
07:20last year i spent a lot of time uh trying to prove to the owners that i was worth
07:28you know what they hired but now i want more what i have to do to buy this boat is i have to
07:36make enough money to get a portion of it but i haven't fished way out west for king crab like
07:46the rest of these veterans and when you're 450 miles out at sea the coast guard can't get to
07:54you in time if you run into trouble when you come up here to guarantee the fish the risk
08:03verse reward is really high you have to be able to take care of every possible situation
08:10i mean i experienced that last year with tyler for that fire
08:15hey guys i got smoke in the mouth smoke in the mouth
08:21holy fuck
08:22holy
08:24guys we got some more eyes for us all right
08:27boats are made with enclosed spaces with a lot of flammable things you know whether it's wood
08:35insulation blueies lines everything burns if you can't get to it to contain it
08:41it can just take out the entire boat
08:44the fire started moving an electrical short and then it torched off these
08:54paint cans so it's literally like bombs going off in the bow
08:59do we have a head count i need to know who is on deck
09:03where's tyler
09:04and then when we started counting heads we found out that one of our guys is down there
09:10tyler tyler
09:12unfortunately tyler was down there on his belly on the bottom of that tank
09:16he could see where the fire was coming from we couldn't
09:20and you know tyler had the presence of mind to shut that emergency hatch down there between the four peak
09:26and the storage line
09:28he trapped himself inside that hatch
09:31but tyler on deck there's tyler down right now
09:33and you don't know if he's alive or dead
09:39you can hear him screaming from down there get ready to pull that hat
09:51you better have a plan when you go west
09:53if you have a mistake
09:55serious fire
09:56it's gonna be 18 hours before you might even have a helicopter
10:03all you can do is focus on the problem
10:05we got him
10:07get him inside
10:11the fire couldn't spread into the gear room
10:17if that fire spread into the gear room
10:20this boat wouldn't be here right now
10:23he's alright
10:31alright thanks
10:32after all that adrenaline
10:43after you know everything's secure
10:45you know your crew is safe
10:47nobody has any major injuries or anything wrong with them
10:52then your body breaks down
10:54your mind breaks down
10:56the emotions start coming out
10:59because of the realization of what could have happened
11:02I just about lost my best friend's son
11:09my best friend is Kurt Frankenberg
11:14Tyler Frankenberg was a kid that was trapped down there in that smoke
11:18you know
11:19Tyler's like a son to me
11:21he has been since he was born
11:23and
11:25his family
11:27you know his grandma
11:29was basically my surrogate mom
11:32when I was a child
11:32you have to call
11:35the best man at your wedding
11:37a friend of 50 years
11:39and tell him that
11:40his son's not coming home
11:44how do you live with something like that
11:47you know
11:50I don't want to think about it anymore man
11:52I just I don't
11:53I don't want to relive it
11:55I don't want to think about it
11:58you know
11:59I don't want to go
11:59no
12:00no
12:00no
12:00no
12:01no
12:01no
12:02yeah
12:03no
12:03Come on.
12:33Right here.
12:39There she is.
12:43It's unlocked.
12:49It's unlocked.
12:50Really?
12:56How's it going?
13:00Okay.
13:02Good trip?
13:04Not bad.
13:06How about babies? Okay.
13:07Everything good at home?
13:09The kids are doing great, but I stood at that gate for a while.
13:12I almost didn't get on the plane.
13:15Faster you catch the crab, faster you go home.
13:21Are you almost ready?
13:23We've still got to get everything ready as far as the pots, the gear, the bait and all that good stuff.
13:32We picked an area?
13:33Yeah.
13:35And I think if we stay close to town, I think it's going to be a big payoff.
13:39I mean, I'm sure you've read the survey, right?
13:45We can always look at it if you want.
13:51Got everything?
13:52Yep.
13:53Go.
14:05This is the one that we got this year.
14:11Everything out here in the regular grounds all dark, which means east is a safer bet.
14:17I see all these dark spots here out to the west.
14:21This is density.
14:23This is density, large size.
14:26Just saying.
14:27But this is...
14:28That's a...
14:29You are right, there's life.
14:31But we don't know specific depths if there is any.
14:36There's a needle in a haystack.
14:37That's the problem.
14:38You understand?
14:40But they're bigger crap.
14:43Yes, but...
14:44Just think about it.
14:48I appreciate Manny's ambition, and that's what it's all about when you're a fisherman.
14:54That being said, she really doesn't know what she's asking for, you know?
14:58You know, last year, Keith had an incident, and it just goes to show how when you're alone, and you're out there in the middle of nowhere, someone gets hurt.
15:11It can be a very scary place to be.
15:13It can be a very scary place to be.
15:20I don't remember what happened.
15:23I remember being on the floor.
15:24No!
15:37Are you alright?
15:42Bro!
15:45Are you alright?
15:48Hey, bro.
15:52Talk to me, bro.
15:55And then, you know, I came to, and I...
16:01Just...
16:03My left side was numb.
16:06You what?
16:08You're kidding.
16:10I haven't watched...
16:12that footage.
16:14I don't want to see myself that weak.
16:18I don't want to see myself not being in control.
16:21I have a...
16:22The US Coast Guard sector in Anchorage.
16:26Fishing vessel wizard.
16:30We've had some sort of an episode on board here.
16:33It's my brother.
16:34His name is Keith.
16:36His left arm was going numb.
16:37Was going numb.
16:39At this point, my concern is that he possibly had a, possibly a mini-stroke.
16:47Maybe I was afraid that I was human.
16:50Maybe I was afraid that I wasn't bulletproof.
16:53Maybe the realization that I was heading out on a plane or helicopter.
16:59That I was not going to be going back out with the wizard to fish.
17:07I don't...
17:11Monty was a hero that day.
17:25He got his brother to town.
17:27You know, Monty and I fight a lot.
17:39We're brothers.
17:40He was really stressed out, yelling and screaming and mad.
17:43He's kind of rotten to me, but we'll go get past that.
17:48He's just an older brother, I guess.
17:52Monty and I are only a year apart.
17:54But we've been fighting since we're kids.
17:57We've also been fighting for each other since we're kids.
18:02There's nobody else on this planet that I wouldn't go to war with than my brother.
18:10The reality is, had he been far from shore, who knows what would have happened.
18:16He was close to shore.
18:18That's probably what saved his life.
18:19So, how far away you are, being on your own, it's part of the equation.
18:25We're going to head as farthest west we've ever been.
18:46I hope that it's all going to work out.
18:48We get on the motherland, so, yeah, see how it rolls.
18:52Pretty excited, you know.
18:54We've got some big boys out there.
18:59Let's go ahead and cut it loose, guys.
19:01Woo-hoo!
19:01Go on fishing.
19:03Hold fishing, baby!
19:06Hold it!
19:08Hold it!
19:08Yeah!
19:08Yeah!
19:09Yeah!
19:09Yeah!
19:09Yeah!
19:09Yeah!
19:09Yeah!
19:10Yeah!
19:10Yeah!
19:10Yeah!
19:10Yeah!
19:10Yeah!
19:11Yeah!
19:11Yeah!
19:11Yeah!
19:12Yeah!
19:12Yeah!
19:12Yeah!
19:13Yeah!
19:14Yeah!
19:14Yeah!
19:15Yeah!
19:16Yeah!
19:16Yeah!
19:17Yeah!
19:19To go out west, it seems a lot to me, you know, I can't stop to think, but this is the
19:25same route my granddad, Ernest Clyde Schubert, took in World War II, bombed the Japanese.
19:35A lot of people don't know it, right after Pearl Harbor was bombed, Dutch Harbor was also
19:39bombed.
19:40The United States had a guy named Colonel Kastner, and he got scouts from all over the
19:48United States and Alaska, guys that could live off the land, guys that could go unnoticed
19:53and like ghosts, invisible.
19:55They were called the Cutthroats.
19:56They were called the Cutthroats, Kastner's Cutthroats.
19:57And they were instrumental in stopping the Japanese from coming up the Aleutian Chain.
20:02My granddad, Ernest Clyde Schubert, was a Cutthroat.
20:05And they called him Shoop.
20:08Glad that those guys fought for us, so we have freedom today.
20:11Because of him, we're here.
20:14It could be the smartest thing I've ever done.
20:18It could be the stupidest thing I've ever done.
20:20But that's the way we live.
20:28Get Neil out of here!
20:32Wait, hey, smoke, smoke!
20:33Neil!
20:34Neil!
20:35Holy shit!
20:36He's no fire!
20:37Get him out of here!
20:38Get him out of here!
20:39Get him out of here!
20:40Get him out of here!
20:41Get him out of here!
20:42What's going on?
20:47Holy shit!
20:48He's no fire!
20:49Get him out of here!
20:50Get him out of here!
20:51Get him out of here!
20:52Get him out of here!
20:53Get him out of here!
20:54Get him out of here!
20:55Get him out of here!
20:56Get him out of here!
20:57Got a lot of smoke.
20:58I don't know what's going on.
20:59Neil's up there.
21:00It's not good.
21:01All right!
21:02Guys, come on!
21:03I think I got it out!
21:04Neil!
21:05Neil's coming out!
21:06You all right, Neil?
21:07Yeah.
21:09Okay, let me know what's going on, guys.
21:12Looked like the bay freezer was on fire, but I got it.
21:15It's the bay freezer!
21:16It's the bay freezer!
21:17Bay freezer!
21:18Yes, the bay freezer!
21:20That breaker's gone on fire!
21:22The fire's out, though, right?
21:24Fire is out!
21:25Roger!
21:26Thanks, Russell.
21:28Keep me posted.
21:29That's my scariest thing, is your boat cuts the fire.
21:33We're all asleep, traveling, and you wouldn't have seen the smoke.
21:36You're a dead man.
21:37These wires look like they melt it right here, and hopefully they didn't shorten nothing
21:42out inside the box.
21:44And this just happened to be in the way.
21:47This made a lot of smoke.
21:49I don't know what kind of damage we have.
21:51I don't even know if I can get it working again.
21:54You got another breaker?
21:59Well, we're gonna have to frickin' do some rewiring.
22:02It's all melting, so it's gonna be a while.
22:05Hopefully, we can fix it.
22:07Other way after it's screwed.
22:08We're screwed.
22:09Thank you, Neil.
22:17We gotta be able to fix that.
22:18We need our bait bruiser.
22:19We lose our bait, we're...
22:22We're F'd.
22:23F'd.
22:24Tango uniform.
22:25Jets up.
22:38Perfect.
22:39Yep.
22:40E315.
22:41Right now, we're doing the Coast Guard inspection.
22:59Yep, so it's not expired.
23:01Service date.
23:03Take a look at your EPIRB.
23:05I can't go out without it.
23:07There you go.
23:08Perfect.
23:12They're trying to make sure that when we go out there,
23:15we all come back alive.
23:17Can we grab your stability book and take a look at it?
23:20Um...
23:21Felipe, it's a skinny yellow book.
23:24I'm gonna review some stuff with you.
23:25Oh, there it is.
23:27So...
23:28I feel comfortable that your life raft and your training ramp are hooked up correctly.
23:35Did we get any weights on the pot yet?
23:38So 835, 832, 778.
23:41Eleven suits are good.
23:42Okay.
23:43I think we're looking good, Jake.
23:45Um...
23:46Something changes, something comes up, or you got a question about anything, you can always reach out to us.
23:50Alright, be safe crossing the dock.
23:52It's the most dangerous place.
23:53Yeah.
23:54Okay.
23:55Hey there, lovely lady.
23:56Hey yo, how's it going?
23:57Got the Coast Guard inspection done.
23:58We're good with the state.
23:59We're good with the feds.
24:00We just need a little bit more gear to be rigged.
24:03And we're ready to go out west.
24:04Um...
24:05Yeah, well...
24:06I mean, I know you know what you're doing, but...
24:07You know, we just need a little bit more gear to be rigged.
24:12What are you doing?
24:13How's it going?
24:14How's it going?
24:15Got the Coast Guard inspection done.
24:16We're good with the state.
24:17We're good with the feds.
24:18We just need a little bit more gear to be rigged.
24:19And we'll be ready to go out west.
24:21Um...
24:24Yeah, well...
24:26I mean, I know you know what you're doing, but, you know, we just, we're barely a year
24:34out from everything that happened with the saga, and I don't know.
24:44I'm just trying to do the best I can do to provide for us, and it seems like the best
24:49option to grow the empire and to find a boat.
24:55Because this is your, literally your wheelhouse.
25:00It just sounds like a big risk.
25:02It just feels like a lot.
25:04I'm just kind of worried about wanting to talk to you.
25:08Okay.
25:09Alright, I love you.
25:11Love you, too.
25:12Okay, bye.
25:13Bye-bye.
25:20I know it's expensive to go all the way out there if I don't make money.
25:25All those decisions impact everything that happens back home.
25:31My kids, my wife, and a year ago, I lost everything.
25:36The door's changed.
25:54Repossession.
25:54I was standing in the back of my own wheelhouse, and I couldn't get in.
26:03And I didn't know why.
26:04Because the amount of money that I put into the saga was enough to buy it twice.
26:11And that was f***ed up.
26:12What's the deal?
26:18There's liens on the boat.
26:20The bank.
26:22They said nobody's allowed on it.
26:24They own the boat.
26:25I don't know how.
26:27I just feel like such a fool.
26:29Lenny, the worst partner I've ever had in my entire f***ing life.
26:36I mean, did you not pay his bills?
26:39What happened?
26:40I still don't know what happened.
26:42Because all I've gotten was an empty f***ing telephone.
26:46I'm still in a f***ing lawsuit paying f***ing lawyers to f***ing figure out when I'm going to get my money back.
26:55I'm going to get some of my stuff now, and...
27:00Oh, it's sad.
27:02This is a salvage mission.
27:09This is f***ing.
27:11This is hard.
27:16I got f***ed because I didn't just lose my boat.
27:22I also lost my crew, which was my family.
27:26I remember loading stuff off a big 450, a big dirt bike.
27:40And I was trying to tow the totes because my four-wheelers didn't work.
27:44And I remember I dumped it.
27:46Like I fell on it.
27:49Ah!
27:51Did you go down?
27:53Ah!
27:54My f***ing hip!
27:56Ah!
27:58Ah!
28:01And then my crew pulled up in the truck.
28:05And I remember asking them, you know, do you think you can help me?
28:10Come on!
28:10Come on!
28:11You know, I remember, I said, can you help me?
28:17And he said, you know, I can't.
28:19I gotta, I gotta go.
28:21Crew members are on another f***ing boat, and I was just like...
28:25Kidding me, dude.
28:28Unless you've been f***ed homeless before and left by society, you wouldn't understand what it's like to be left by your own people.
28:48It's one of the f***ing hardest things a human being can go through.
28:52And only very few know it.
28:56Stripped of all my money and title, I'll never forget that f***ing night.
29:00That night was f***ing brutal.
29:06Losing the saga, it really dropped me down a peg.
29:10It's like going from being a captain to a deckhand.
29:13But, you know, I really do respect Jenna as a partner in my business.
29:21And if she thinks something's too risky, a lot of the times she's right.
29:28I've earned respect as a captain on the Titan.
29:31But, if I go all the way out west and fail, I will get fired.
29:39Every decision that I make impacts my family.
29:43And I don't want to lose everything again.
29:46Well, here we are.
30:07This is Great St. King Island.
30:10We're way out west.
30:12Way, way west.
30:15What up?
30:16We've got a breaker problem.
30:18It's a breaker for the bait freezer.
30:21That's the most important thing on the boat for crab fish
30:23is to keep all of our bait frozen.
30:25We don't have frozen bait.
30:26We use the bait as fast as we can.
30:28Try to catch as much crab as we can.
30:30Until it got rotten.
30:31Then, pretty much have to go down.
30:33Pretty nasty within three days.
30:37We're a long ways from home.
30:42Great St. King Island.
30:44It was a key location in World War II.
30:46It's one of the major refueling stations.
30:49You can still see a lot of structures here.
30:52I can see Quonset huts and bunkers and stuff.
30:58Oh, yeah.
31:00This is definitely a remnant of what they call the Forgotten War.
31:04You know, when the Japanese took over the Aleutian Islands, the Cutthroats actually traveled to Attu in a submarine from Dutch Harbor.
31:13My granddad, Ernest Clyde Shupert, he was actually one of the kids that was dropped off on the islands.
31:21And they actually held off the Japanese for a couple days while our military snuck around the back of the island and came in through the back.
31:27I think 5,000 Japanese died in those 18 days.
31:35Cutthroats and Colonel Kastner actually won the war in the Aleutian chain.
31:39All right.
31:41This is the moment of truth.
31:42Come on, baby.
31:47Waiting for the compressor to kick on.
31:49Come on, baby.
31:51There it goes.
31:55It's working.
31:57Say that again.
31:58It's like it's working, right?
31:59I think we go back to work.
32:04Thank you, Neil.
32:04Thank you, guys.
32:06Don't go anywhere without Neil Hill's trap.
32:11Took us four days to get here.
32:13And no one's fished out here for over 30 years.
32:16So the crab got to be stockpiled out there.
32:18Seriously.
32:19If I'm right, this is going to be a huge payday.
32:25It's a long way.
32:26I'm kind of am nervous about this, but we all need paychecks for our families.
32:34So we got to hit them.
32:38Heaven and hell is this close out on the ocean.
32:43It's a gavel, especially when you're way out west all along.
32:46That is scary.
32:56We're probably going to stay up pretty late tonight.
33:21Get as many pots on as we can.
33:22We're going to be locked and loaded and leave on time.
33:26Price is going to be high.
33:28King crab, decided.
33:31Knock on wood, dude.
33:34Everything's going to be perfect.
33:40Guys are trying to get the boat ready.
33:43You know, right now, plan is to stay close to town, minimize cost, and see if we can't get in and out safely.
33:57Hey, say you got me?
34:01I'm here.
34:03Yeah, we got an eight-pound load of heroin on its way.
34:05How many pounds?
34:0915,000.
34:11So what was that?
34:12I got here.
34:13It says, uh, B Northwestern.
34:16All right, let me get back to you.
34:23Mandy!
34:24Can you come up here?
34:26Yeah.
34:30That's twice of what we need.
34:35What's going on?
34:38How much bait did you guys order?
34:41They're telling me 15,000 pounds of bait is on the way.
34:43That's right.
34:44Who ordered that?
34:45I ordered it.
34:46You ordered 15,000 pounds?
34:48Yeah.
34:51Typically, we can get by for a long time on eight.
34:56We talked about going further out there.
34:58You're talking about going out west again?
35:01Yeah.
35:03What are you not understanding?
35:05Okay, if I made up my mind to go west, then I would do that, and I'd let you know, but
35:09we haven't said that.
35:11You've said that.
35:12You have that in your head.
35:20My granddad was out here, and he was the same age as I was when I first came out here
35:24when I was 18.
35:26It was World War II.
35:28World War II, dude.
35:29The whole world fought.
35:31Look what I found at the store.
35:33Ha, ha, ha, ha, yeah, baby.
35:35We'll fly this for...
35:36No way, Neil.
35:36We'll fly all the way out to Aduck.
35:39U.S.A.!
35:39U.S.A.!
35:41U.S.A.!
35:41U.S.A.!
35:42U.S.A.!
35:43That's right!
35:45U.S.A.!
35:46Yeah, baby!
35:47That makes me even more patriotic.
35:49U.S.A.!
35:50U.S.A.!
35:51U.S.A.!
35:52Love you, Pops.
35:54Pop, Pop.
35:54Thanks for everything he did.
35:58I miss you.
35:59I'll see him again someday.
36:12I understand what you're doing.
36:14You're trying to lock and load, man.
36:15I get it.
36:16There's no reason to not go.
36:25All right, look.
36:26It's not about ego right now.
36:28It's about trying to make a fast buck safely.
36:32Money.
36:46Money.
36:51You don't believe it.
36:53What?
36:56To go that far, like, you don't even know if there's crap or that's the thing.
37:00What?
37:01My grandpa would have done it?
37:03Sir, you used to fish there all the time.
37:05This boat has not been back there since.
37:07I mean, yeah, it sounds like...
37:09Yeah.
37:12My old man was a hero to me growing up.
37:15You know, I had those trips with him out west, a lot of memories out there, going along
37:21the chain and looking for crap, you know?
37:30These are my dad's little turds here.
37:32That's as far west as you can get.
37:39But he was out here basically in the 60s, 70s.
37:43I've only been out there a few times.
37:47You know, he's not here anymore, and I miss him all the time.
37:58You know, it makes you want to go back there.
38:08I mean, Great Sitkin, Four Mountains, Adak, and there was crap.
38:14I mean, Big Crab.
38:23They were a heck of a lot deeper.
38:26So you can see how he's marked them up.
38:30But we got down to, like, even 100 Fathoms was big.
38:38You can see the whole bank there.
38:39I mean, it's tempting, you know.
38:54Dude, these are some fatties.
38:56That looks so good, you know, you want to chase it down.
38:59The survey does say, you know, there's life.
39:03And, boy, you find life like that.
39:05It'd be a lot of fun.
39:06Nothing's promised here, but I have the opportunity to make millions.
39:32And becoming a partner and regaining success as an owner is not going to come without risk.
39:41I want my wife and kids to be proud of me.
39:44I want my life to mean something.
39:47And that's why I'm going out west.
39:49I want to make sure that my time out here is worth it.
40:02I don't like making decisions on emotions.
40:10It's the wrong thing to do.
40:13But when I start putting the pieces together, it inspires me, you know.
40:21Not to just relive old memories, but there's money out there.
40:28We're talking millions of dollars.
40:30We're talking rediscovering a fishery.
40:33I'm not going to wait for someone else to do it.
40:35I'm going to do it first.
40:38You got me, John?
40:40Sick, what's up?
40:42Well, I had a change of heart, pal.
40:45I'd like to meet you in ADAC.
40:48Are you kidding me?
40:49Not with the boat, just me.
40:50Get ready.
