00:00He was upset, I was distraught.
00:08It's the final day of the competition to be named Best Value Place of the Week.
00:13The rival hosts are assembling one last time
00:16to find out what they've been paid and settle some scores.
00:20So who's ready to get some answers then?
00:22Kicking off proceedings is Naim Payman,
00:24whose wife Sarah is unable to attend today.
00:27So guys, time to get some clarification.
00:31When they welcomed their rivals to the Lovelady Shield Hotel in Alston, Cumbria...
00:36Hello, welcome to Lovelady.
00:38Chris soaked it all in.
00:41Wow, what a view, that's incredible.
00:43Wow, lovely bathroom.
00:46Perfect length bath for me.
00:48And Neil and Jack found it a breath of fresh air.
00:51That's very light and airy.
00:52I like it.
00:53Maybe we've got a valley view.
00:55Yeah.
00:55Have a look underneath what's underneath here.
00:57It's nice and clean.
00:58Well, they're brand new to me, then.
01:00But when Jane and Phil arrived...
01:02Oh, wow.
01:03What a beautiful room.
01:05It is.
01:05It was a case of out with the old.
01:08Everything is clean.
01:09Yeah.
01:09I just think some of the furniture and decor just needs a little bit of upgrading.
01:15The beading's missing off the front there.
01:18Same with the sash window, really.
01:20There's been a repair on that.
01:21Which, come feedback...
01:22How were the facilities at Love Lady Shield?
01:25...made a dent in the scores.
01:27I'm going to have to go for a six.
01:29Six.
01:29Oh.
01:30That's painful.
01:31There's a few things we need to find out on payment day.
01:34Yeah.
01:35Now face to face.
01:36Naeem has a score to settle.
01:38So, Jane and Phil, on facilities, you gave us a six.
01:42Bedroom needs finishing.
01:44What exactly needed finishing?
01:45The furniture wasn't up to much.
01:47There was a side dresser that some of the beading was missing off it.
01:51The sash window had been repaired, but not sanded down and painted.
01:54It just needed a little bit more attention to detail.
01:58It is an old building.
01:59For us, it's been mostly a case of trying to get the place open.
02:02There was so much wrong with that place.
02:04You know, at least you didn't have a leak through your roof.
02:05You had your hot water.
02:07The heating was working.
02:08It just looked a little bit tired.
02:10What we're charging is based on what we have to offer at the moment.
02:14If in the future we do a full upgrade of the place,
02:16then pricing would probably double or triple.
02:19I think Love Lady was very tired, wasn't it?
02:21There were quite a lot of issues.
02:23For the money we're charging, the feedback was a bit harsh.
02:26Decor debated.
02:27Naeem can now find out how much he's been paid,
02:30starting with Neil and Jack and Neil's room at £126.
02:35£100, £120, £125, £126.
02:40That's full payment.
02:41Thank you so much, James.
02:42No problem.
02:42I thought it was excellent value.
02:44Yeah.
02:45Next, it's Chris's room, also costing £126.
02:51£125, £126.
02:52Full payment from you as well, Chris.
02:54Couldn't have asked for more, really.
02:56Hope we'll have you back.
02:57Finally, it's Jane and Phil's room,
03:00which cost £134.10.
03:03£130?
03:05£134 and 10p.
03:08Goodness me.
03:09Full payment.
03:10Thank you, guys.
03:11It was deserved, Naeem.
03:12There was just a few things that wanted doing.
03:15That was all.
03:16It was great value for money.
03:17Very good value for money.
03:18Yeah.
03:18Jane and Phil had given some relatively poor feedback,
03:22so I was worried we'd get massively underpaid,
03:24but it went well.
03:25With the Ryback Hotel,
03:28Dale to Swale glamping,
03:30and Ashbourne Holidays all paying in full,
03:33the Love Lady Shield finishes with a final bill average of 100%.
03:37Next to face the feedback are colleagues Neil Barnes and Jack Waring.
03:42OK, I'm really excited about this.
03:45Let's go.
03:45When they opened the doors to the Ryback Hotel in Bowness-on-Wyndermere in the Lake District...
03:52Hi.
03:53Hello.
03:54Welcome to the Ryback Hotel, Wyndermere.
03:56...some of the guests lapped it up.
03:58Oh, wow.
03:59Look at that for a view.
04:00It's a beautiful view, isn't it?
04:02Stunning.
04:03Good-sized room, like that, and first impressions.
04:06Really pleased with that.
04:06But when Naeem and Sarah arrived...
04:09Oh, wow.
04:10Wow.
04:11...they weren't sweet enough.
04:13For the price that we're paying,
04:15I'd expect something slightly larger, to be honest,
04:18maybe an additional room, some sort of a suite.
04:20And the pair dissed the decor.
04:22There's paint on this clothes hanger.
04:25I mean, that's not a great finish,
04:26and you can see a proper wave in the wall there.
04:29The coving up here, there's quite a bit of a mismatch.
04:32On closer inspection, Chris aired his views.
04:35It is a lovely view.
04:36Lovely garden.
04:37But I was hoping for a lakeside here.
04:39And he felt the squeeze in the bathroom.
04:42I can just fit in this one.
04:43Just a little more space would be preferable.
04:46Come morning, the bathrooms took even more of a bashing.
04:49That glass was completely transparent.
04:52I'd expect some level of frosting to give privacy.
04:54And the shower this morning was a bit disappointing as well.
04:57I had to almost stand on the slope
05:00to be able to get enough water on me.
05:02It just didn't have enough pressure, I guess.
05:03Yeah.
05:04I did find it a little bit awkward getting into the shower
05:07because of the position of the toilet.
05:09Yeah.
05:09And the breakfast got a grilling.
05:12How about your sausages?
05:13To be honest, I like mine a bit firmer.
05:15What do you make of these beans?
05:16Do you think they were homemade or were they tinned?
05:18I don't think they were homemade.
05:20But at feedback...
05:21How were the facilities?
05:23It was Naeem and Sarah's facilities score...
05:25I think let's go with a six.
05:27...that bothered the boys.
05:28A six.
05:30I think we need some clarification
05:32and I'd like to see that on payment day.
05:35Now all together,
05:36Neil and Jack soak up Naeem's comments about the bathroom.
05:40Facilities, Naeem.
05:41You give us a six.
05:43Okay.
05:44Shower pressure and layout disappointing.
05:46Yeah, so the shower pressure was slightly on the low side.
05:50And in terms of the layout,
05:52particularly because the pressure was low,
05:53I sort of had to stand on the slope
05:55to get under the water actually falling on me.
05:59Yes.
05:59You had to get over the toilet to get into the bath
06:01because the shower screen wouldn't know.
06:03Well, we haven't actually done anything
06:05with the bathrooms in them rooms.
06:06I don't think the bathrooms were that bad,
06:08but we have done some of the other bathrooms.
06:10I think Chris had a new one.
06:11I just found it a little bit tight in the shower.
06:13It is what the room is, I'm afraid.
06:15That's the problem.
06:15And it is a very tight shower.
06:17It's probably the smallest you can get.
06:19Okay, better planning, bathroom frosting, Naeem.
06:22So the window in the bathroom obviously had a great view,
06:25but people outside could look in fairly easily.
06:28So unless you put the blind down...
06:30Yeah.
06:31..it was slightly difficult to use the bathroom
06:33because both the toilet and the shower were in straight view.
06:36It's two ways of looking at this.
06:37Another person would say,
06:39I don't have the view from my bath out the window.
06:42You'd put the blind down if you wanted to have a shower.
06:45You'd put the blind up if you wanted the view, wouldn't you?
06:47That would be my view.
06:49I think there was a bit brutal on the bathroom.
06:52I mean, we've not refitted the bathrooms.
06:54Naeem, definitely a picky sort,
06:56so I won't be changing nothing for him.
06:57We've been very frank, very blunt,
07:00but I just say things the way they are.
07:02Next, Neil and Jack want to bite down on their breakfast score.
07:05Yeah, so with breakfast, you give us an eight.
07:08Some ingredients lacked quality and taste.
07:10The sausages were very soft compared to what I like.
07:14Yeah.
07:14And then the beans, sorry to say, but were they thinned?
07:19Because it looked like they'd just been chucked in the microwave.
07:21The beans are homemade.
07:22I don't think many people offer homemade beans.
07:25Do you?
07:26I believe we do, yeah.
07:27And I mean, at that price point,
07:29I was sort of expecting to be blown away with breakfast.
07:31We do offer a good breakfast.
07:33We get a lot of feedback.
07:34People returning just for breakfast.
07:35I think an eight is a little bit harsh, really, I think.
07:38Yeah, I mean, I was a six, I was a ten,
07:39and so we sort of met halfway, didn't it?
07:41So you actually thought, how about she was a six?
07:43Six.
07:43Yeah.
07:44The Sarah give it a, she was on a ten, wasn't she?
07:46Sarah was on a ten, she really liked it.
07:48So, that says it all, doesn't it?
07:49Yeah.
07:49I mean, that says it all.
07:50Yeah, some people might like some bits more than others.
07:54I just don't see this disparity.
07:57You know what I mean?
07:57And it's just, he was upset, I was distraught.
08:01The pair can now count their cash,
08:03starting with Phil and Jane's room, costing £258.
08:08£220, £240, £250.
08:12Okay.
08:13So it's an underpayment of £8.
08:15It was purely down to the bathroom.
08:17Purely down to the bathroom.
08:18Just didn't meet the expectations of that room.
08:20Yeah.
08:20And that was all.
08:23I'll give it to Jane and Phil.
08:25Their payment was justifiable.
08:28Next, it's Chris's room at £183.
08:33£140, £160, £170, Jack.
08:36So, Chris, that's an underpayment of £13.
08:39The struggle space in the shower,
08:41and I would have preferred a room with a view of the lake.
08:44£170, I'd be honest,
08:45you wouldn't really get a lake view in, like, Windermere for that.
08:48But, yeah, we'll take your comments on board.
08:49So, thank you.
08:50The room Chris was allocated.
08:52It was a nice room.
08:54We don't have 27 lake views.
08:56Finally, it's Naeem.
08:57And his and Sarah's room, priced at £258.
09:02£180, £190, £200.
09:06That was a big underpayment.
09:08Wow.
09:09So, that's an underpayment of £58.
09:11Essentially, it's about 20% off,
09:14which we feel reflects some of the issues that we had.
09:17The one other thing is, to be honest,
09:18for that price point,
09:19I expected a slightly larger room,
09:21more of a suite, if that makes sense.
09:24Naeem, I've got to say it,
09:25in Windermere, £200.
09:27You're not going to get a room at that?
09:28You're not going to get a suite looking at Lake Windermere for £200.
09:32There's guests, there's guest houses charging £300.
09:36And don't take it personally,
09:37but we just felt for us,
09:38that's a lot of money,
09:39and we'd rather spend it elsewhere.
09:40We're both not particularly happy with this payment,
09:43but on this occasion, we'll accept it.
09:46Naeem was expecting a suite for £250.
09:49He must be deluded.
09:51With Ashbourne Holidays knocking off £8,
09:54Dale Tusswale Glamping holding back £13,
09:57and the Lovelady Shield deducting £58,
10:01the Ryback Hotel finishes with a final bill average of 89%.
10:06With half the payments in,
10:08Dale Tusswale Glamping is next to face the critics.
10:12Tension's rising, my feedback's next,
10:14and I'm going to be fighting my corner.
10:21It's the final day of the competition
10:24to be named Best Value Place of the Week.
10:26Two sets of hosts have already found out
10:28where they've been paid.
10:30Next up is Chris Long.
10:32Right, guys, I want some answers from you,
10:34and they'd better be good.
10:36When the guests swept up to Dale Tusswale Glamping
10:40in Richmond, North Yorkshire...
10:42Hi, Chris.
10:42Welcome to Dale Tusswale Glamping.
10:44..first impressions were impressive.
10:46Wow.
10:47Oh, wow.
10:48This is so cool.
10:50Oh, this is nice.
10:50It's nice and light anyway, yeah.
10:52Well, it's quite spacious.
10:54Yeah.
10:54The living area looks clean, doesn't it?
10:57But on closer inspection,
10:59Naeem and Sarah came clean.
11:01Yeah, that's definitely not been cleaned.
11:03Not been cleaned.
11:04Have a look at the loo.
11:06Some hair over there.
11:08Oh, yeah.
11:09And it was the lack of electric
11:10that made everyone lose their spark.
11:12Ooh, fab!
11:13Oh, at least some milk.
11:14But that means we obviously have a cup of fridge.
11:17No electric.
11:18Yeah.
11:19Solar hub.
11:20I don't know if we'll be able to charge our phone in that.
11:22And I'm not sure how I'm going to get my laptop plugs in.
11:24For me, not having man's power is a bit of an issue, isn't it?
11:28It is totally.
11:29Come bedtime, Naeem and Sarah lost their chill.
11:33Is it any warmer in the bedroom yet?
11:35Yeah, it's a little bit warmer.
11:36I've got four hot water bottles.
11:38In the morning, Jane and Phil were restless.
11:42How did you sleep last night?
11:43Not very well.
11:44That noise.
11:45I think it is just the canvas.
11:47Plus the road noise as well.
11:49And at breakfast, they weren't tooled up.
11:52No tongs, is it?
11:53No.
11:55While for Naeem and Sarah, the price left a sour taste.
11:58For me, 200 quid.
11:59I mean, for two people, it's just completely out of the question.
12:02But at feedback...
12:03How were the facilities?
12:05It was the lack of power...
12:06There was no electricity.
12:07No electricity.
12:08...that left the host charged up.
12:10Quite clearly, we had a couple of guests
12:11who just kept on banging on our electricity.
12:13We don't have electricity, so...
12:16Now round the table,
12:17Chris is ready for some power play.
12:20Facilities, Naeem, you've given me four.
12:23And in your comments, you've put no electricity.
12:25I appreciate what you're trying to do
12:27and trying to get people a reset from technology.
12:29But to me, that's a big problem.
12:31I need to be online pretty much 24-7 whenever I'm awake.
12:34And even keeping the phone charged was a struggle.
12:37This is what my glamping site is about.
12:39We don't provide that.
12:40We don't say we provide it.
12:42I can't get away from the electricity with it.
12:43I feel there's so much benefits to have electricity there.
12:46For me, it does kind of take away from glamping for me
12:49because you've not got the luxuries available to you
12:51like electricity and, you know...
12:54So you wouldn't class it as glamping?
12:56I wouldn't, no.
12:57What you class as luxury glamping towards
13:00was, I think it was probably, posh camping.
13:02So for me, glamping is great location,
13:05peaceful, quiet, with nature,
13:07with things inside which makes things more comfortable.
13:09So you've got the heating, you've got the load burner.
13:12Fully fitted kitchen.
13:12So when people come on holiday with me,
13:14they just literally need to bring themselves
13:15with a little bit of food and drink.
13:17You've got all the expensive, them large safari tents.
13:20How's it detrimental not to have electricity there?
13:23It may not be detrimental,
13:24but it's not something that I've considered.
13:26We are an off-grid site.
13:28There's solar lights, you've got cooking facilities,
13:31you've got charging points,
13:33but we don't do electricity.
13:35Now it's time for Chris to count the cash,
13:38starting with Jane and Phil
13:39and their £200 safari tent.
13:43£160, £170, £175, £175.
13:48That's a £25 underpayment.
13:50Can you explain?
13:51Yeah, I think it was really down to the basic facilities.
13:54There were things missing.
13:55Sadly, Phil didn't have a very good night's sleep
13:57and the noise from the road.
13:59This time of year,
14:00I know that the road sound is a little bit greater.
14:02Unfortunately, I can't change that,
14:04but thank you for your feedback
14:04and I'll accept your payment.
14:06It's my pride and joy.
14:09My heart and soul goes into it.
14:10In this instance,
14:11we've fallen short a little bit
14:12in some people's eyes,
14:14but I'll stand up for my establishment
14:15to the end.
14:17Next, it's Neil and Jack
14:18and their tent costing £200.
14:22£120, £140, £160.
14:25So that's a £40 underpayment.
14:27I can't get away from the electric, I can't.
14:29It's a basic necessity.
14:30I am disappointed with your underpayment,
14:32but in this instance, I will accept it.
14:34OK, thank you.
14:35We did feel sorry on Chris.
14:38I don't think Chris was particularly happy
14:40on the feedback he received,
14:41but he's electric.
14:43I just can't get over it.
14:44Finally, it's Naeem
14:46and here's Ansara's £200 tent.
14:49£20, £40, £60, £80, £90.
14:56That's a bit harsh.
14:58Wow.
14:59That's an underpayment of £110.
15:02You've got a lot of explaining.
15:03Yeah, it's just that the facilities
15:05and the cleanliness just weren't quite up to scratch.
15:08It was freezing cold
15:10and we just didn't see the value for two people.
15:12That's very disappointing.
15:14Almost rude, actually.
15:16And I'm quite upset by that.
15:18I mean, I could have provided you more blankets.
15:20You add hot water bottles.
15:22Cleaning the tent takes me two hours per tent.
15:24My tents are very special.
15:26They provide accommodation for up to six people
15:28and it's priced on that.
15:30And I appreciate that it's good value
15:32if you are six people.
15:33It's just there was only two of us.
15:35For me, the offer of £90 is not enough.
15:40So I'm afraid I won't be accepting that.
15:44So I'll just put it back in there.
15:49And thank you for coming to stay.
15:52You can even have it back.
15:55Yeah, I'm sorry.
15:56I do hope that lots of people will continue to come
15:58and will continue to enjoy their stays.
16:00All right.
16:02I was never going to accept an underpayment of £110.
16:05It's just rude.
16:06With Ashbourne Holidays underpaying by £25,
16:10the Rybeck Hotel withholding £40
16:13and Chris rejecting the Lovelady Shields
16:16underpayment of £110,
16:18Dale Tusswale Glamping finishes with a final bill average
16:21of 56%.
16:23The final pair contending for the title
16:27are couple Jane and Phil DeVille.
16:29Last but not least, let's get on with it.
16:31On arrival at Ashbourne Holidays
16:35in Marston, Montgomery, Derbyshire...
16:37Morning.
16:38Hi there.
16:39The guests thought it was pod perfection.
16:42I love it already.
16:43Gorgeous.
16:44You can feel the warmth.
16:45Yes, lovely.
16:46The level of finish and everything is really amazing.
16:49Really nice.
16:50Wow, this looks absolutely lovely.
16:52Looks like a nice big bed.
16:53Very comfy.
16:54Big look.
16:55Pot top for two.
16:56OK.
16:56Whoa.
16:57Cute.
16:58And come evening,
16:59Neil and Jack made a splash.
17:02How are you finding the hot top, Neil?
17:03It's raining, but it's quite nice being in the hot top.
17:06Next morning, Naeem and Sarah didn't cushion the blows.
17:10Pillow quite hard, I found.
17:12Like, my neck is a little bit sore this morning.
17:15My main issue was that clock on the wall
17:18just kept ticking away.
17:20It was really loud all night.
17:21So when it came to feedback...
17:23Clock too loud?
17:25It was the hosts who were ticked off.
17:28Clock too loud.
17:29I think that's a little bit picky.
17:31I just wanted to be paid what we asked.
17:33What we asked.
17:34Yeah.
17:35Before finding out their payments,
17:37there's a comment Jane and Phil have been losing sleep over.
17:41How did you sleep?
17:42Pillows too hard.
17:44Yeah, the pillows were really sort of tall.
17:46So Sarah woke up and her whole back and neck were aching.
17:51OK, well, I can only apologise for that,
17:53but we do take great pride in the quality of the products
17:56that we put in there.
17:57So they are nice and plump and luxurious.
18:01Right.
18:01And clock too loud.
18:05Yeah.
18:05It actually disturbed my sleep quite a bit.
18:08Yeah.
18:09I could hear the ticking.
18:11That's because they've got batteries in, Naeem,
18:12and they do tend to go tick-tock.
18:15Yeah.
18:15One suggestion could be a digital clock, maybe.
18:17People do actually ask for the clocks,
18:20and they do like them, so they will be staying.
18:24Oh, clocks.
18:26Do you know what?
18:28I'm really not that bothered, so they will be staying.
18:31Jane and Phil can now count the cash,
18:34starting with Chris and his pod, which cost £211.50.
18:38£200, £210, £211.50.
18:43Full payment.
18:44Thank you very much, Chris.
18:45Thank you so much, Chris.
18:46It was absolutely faultless.
18:48We'll definitely come back again, so...
18:49We look forward to welcoming you back.
18:52Next, it's Naeem,
18:53and here's Ansara's £212.50 pod.
18:58£180, £200, £210, £212.50.
19:04That's a full payment.
19:05Despite the minor issues that we had,
19:07it was an absolutely fantastic stay.
19:10Thank you so much.
19:11We look forward to welcoming you back, too.
19:13You can be fair, Naeem.
19:15We try.
19:16I was very concerned that there was going to be
19:18some tactical payments made,
19:20but very relieved to say there weren't.
19:23There's definitely no tactics involved by us.
19:25We decided we were happy to pay in full.
19:27I think it's thoroughly deserved.
19:29I was expecting £100 underpayment off Naeem for that clock.
19:32Finally, it's Neil and Jack,
19:34and Neil's pod, priced at £211.50.
19:39£80, 200, £220.
19:43Now, that's an overpayment of £8.50.
19:46Thank you very much, Neil and Jack.
19:47Well, it is.
19:47You both did an amazing job there.
19:49Thank you very much.
19:49Well worth it.
19:50Thank you so much.
19:51No worries.
19:52Sorry, guys.
19:53I'm just a little bit speechless.
19:56I'm so grateful to you all.
19:57It means so much, doesn't it?
19:59No, I will say,
20:01and I've already said it,
20:02but she does put so much into it.
20:04Yes, we can tell.
20:05Yeah.
20:06Congratulations.
20:06You both deserve it.
20:08When you got to £200 and then that final £20 went down,
20:13I just, the penny dropped,
20:14and the relief was overwhelming, as you know.
20:18With Dale Tusswale glamping,
20:20and the Lovelady Shield both paying in full,
20:23and the Ryback Hotel tipping £8.50,
20:26Ashbourne Holidays finishes with a final bill average of 101%.
20:31With all the payments in,
20:33it's down to Jack to reveal the results.
20:36OK, then, guys.
20:37So I've got the honour in announcing the results.
20:40So in fourth place,
20:42we have Dale Tusswale glamping.
20:46Well done.
20:47Well done, Chris.
20:48Feeling a little defeated coming fourth,
20:50but it's been brilliant sharing the week
20:52with people who work in the same industry as me,
20:53sharing ideas and best practice.
20:55So next we have, in third place,
20:57we have the Ryback Hotel.
21:00Woo!
21:04I'm happy with it.
21:05I'm tough with it.
21:06I'm not bothered that we didn't win at the end of it.
21:08Where would we have put that black?
21:09We'd been arguing over it.
21:10I'd put it in my bedroom, Neil.
21:11I know you would have.
21:12So the top spot,
21:13it's between the Lovelady Shield Hotel
21:15and Ashbourne Holidays.
21:17So the winner is...
21:21Ashbourne Holidays.
21:22Well done.
21:23Well done.
21:27I'm a little bit shell-shocked, to be honest.
21:29Absolutely.
21:30Amazing.
21:31That's been a thoroughly enjoyable week.
21:33Thoroughly enjoyed it, haven't we?
21:34Yeah.
21:34Yes.
21:34Jane and Phil,
21:35if you'd like to step forward and collect your plaque.
21:40Congratulations.
21:41I'm very glad that we came second.
21:43Jane and Phil definitely deserved the first spot
21:45and I think we all agreed on that.
