Big Rock Burning Movie Trailer HD - Plot synopsis: An intimate 30 minute documentary exploring the resilient spirit of Malibu's Big Rock community as they rebuild from the ashes of the devastating Palisades Fire, one of America's worst wildfires. The film captures the raw aftermath of a harrowing night when residents were left to fend for themselves after officials deemed the area too dangerous to enter. 00:00Multiple structures burning on the ocean side of PCH.
00:06When you're in the burn zone, it's like being in a war zone.
00:09All of PCH is on fire.
00:11It is like driving through hell itself.
00:14Boom, boom, it wouldn't stop.
00:16It felt like war.
00:17What am I feeling?
00:18I was like, that's fear.
00:19I literally thought, we're going to burn alive.
00:21The fire had just grown and grown and grown.
00:24It was a monster.
00:25And we hear a firefighter, and he says, the next neighborhood is Big Rock.
00:32The dispatch says, stand down.
00:34He said, stand down.
00:38It's crazy how little's actually left.
00:41I saw something that I was wondering if it survived.
00:44Yep, a little Christmas-themed cup.
00:46This is a home that my parents built in 1962.
00:49I have a 12-year-old daughter.
00:50This is her greatest fear.
00:51We've come back to our apocalypse of a house.
00:54People don't have a mindset that it could really happen to them.
00:58We are only as strong as our infrastructure, and our infrastructure has fallen apart.
01:01There is a massive systemic failure here.
01:04I ran to the faucet, and I noticed that water pressure had dropped.
01:07The LA City Council voted to slash millions from the fire department budget.
01:11Yes, it was cut, and it did impact our ability to provide service.
01:14People said firefighters had orders not to go into the community because it was too dangerous for them.
01:18So we did what we had to do.
01:21Can you show us some of your tools that you use that thing?
01:24Garden hoses.
01:25I was here with two garden hoses to protect my house.
01:28It requires people, boots on the ground.
01:30They should have already been there.
01:31The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority doesn't do brush clearance.
01:34You got a ton of fuel everywhere.
01:36The brush is taller than me.
01:38I'm looking at it going, oh my God, this is Palisades 2.0.
01:42We're looking for answers.
01:44We were forgotten, and that's why people are so angry.
01:47A domino of failures led to our devastation.
01:50What are you going to do about it?
01:51You cannot assume the government will come for you.
01:55When the next fire comes through, because that's not an if, that's a when.
02:01I don't want to be all alone again.
