Bondi's Sculpture by the Sea back after $200,000 lifeline

Sculpture by the Sea will proceed this year after a $200,000 funding lifeline, having faced cancellation due to inadequate federal government support. The art display along the Bondi to Tamarama cliff walk opened on October 17.

00:22James Rogers, who's been part of the exhibition since day one, took home the $70,000 prize

00:28for his sculpture, Siren Song.

00:30It's an event that's expected to draw almost half a million people, but it was almost cancelled

00:35due to a $200,000 shortfall.

00:38Just weeks out, organisers secured a last minute lifeline, but they say the battle is far from

00:44over, with the arts sector continuing to face funding pressures.

00:47We're definitely hopeful for the future of Sculpture by the Sea, but it's going to be a

00:51challenge still.

00:52Our future is not assured.

00:54New South Wales Arts Fund in the next year goes back to 2011 levels.

00:59But for now, people are flocking to enjoy this art with a view.
