Paul from the Wambles of Wales has been on a mission. He’s litter picked his way from Barry to Bristol over the last month, which is over a hundred miles. He’s collected over a hundred bags of litter, and he says he’s shared a thousand smiles. He hopes to raise money for his charity, and raise awareness for homeless people.

00:00He's been on a journey that's lasted for weeks. Back in September we met up with Paul Batters
00:08from the Wambles of Wales as he set off on his remarkable journey. He went all the way
00:12from Barry Island, across the south coast of Wales, passed through here in Cardiff Bay,
00:17onto Newport and then all the way to Bristol and back again, all while carrying up to 60
00:22kilograms on his back, litter picking and camping where he can. It's a journey that
00:27most of us would never really even think about. But Paul, he isn't made of the same stuff as most of us.
00:32So we're waiting here patiently outside the Senate, waiting for him to come around that corner
00:36and take the final steps of his journey. Well, I'll tell you what, with 60 kilos on my back
00:43and after 100 miles, it feels just so nice just to sit down and yeah, it's just been so emotional,
00:55inspirational. 100 miles starting off with no food, no money and no accommodation.
01:03I found that just doing the right thing and making people smile just allowed the universe to pay me
01:11back. Paul hadn't said the specific time but it did take him a little bit longer than he originally
01:16thought. It was all about making a difference where he could, having a positive impact on people around
01:21him and tidying nature everywhere he went. I'm not doing this as a race. It hasn't been a race. It's
01:28not been a physical achievement. It's all been about bags, miles and smiles. And I've managed to do over
01:40100 miles, collected over 100 bags of litter and shed over a thousand smiles. It's the smiles thing
01:52that really, really made a difference, you know. More than anything, Paul was doing this for his
01:57charity. He hopes to raise enough money to make sure they can carry on helping other homeless people
02:02through what is likely to be a tough winter and give the homeless people who take part in this charity
02:07a sense of belonging where they can. They're all someone's son, someone's daughter, someone's loved
02:12one. And we're raising money to see a few of them through a winter that's going to be really, really
02:21hard. All we say is walk a mile, share a smile, but give what you can, when you can, if you can. If you can
02:31give a fiver to our GoFundMe page, which is Barry to Bristol on back litter pick, we really appreciate
02:41it. If you can give 50 quid, we'd appreciate it. But also, if you can give five minutes of your time
02:48to somebody less fortunate than you, whether they're homeless or whether they're not, everyone needs
02:55a friend. And a family.
