00:00I've not been able to eat, mostly, since she's gone missing, it's been absolute hell on earth.
00:21The search for Becky Watts has widened considerably, but we really do need to find some results.
00:30We need to find something.
00:35Forensics officers being used to locate a missing person.
00:40Our social media campaign has now reached more than 4 million people worldwide.
00:46Bex, if you're able, just come home.
00:50We really are very concerned about our well-being.
00:52Our main priority is to find Becky alive.
00:56I know you've got something to tell us.
00:58I can see it in your face.
01:00If you've got her, then put her somewhere we can find her.
01:06We want her home.
01:07Please.
01:08I was sat on the bench, I remember it, like it was yesterday.
01:21There was a teacher, and she was bringing Becky in.
01:30We just got chatting, I was saying it's my birthday next month, and I was looking forward to it, and Becky said, I've got to get you something.
01:35I've still got it now, after all these years, I've kept it.
01:48She got me this for my birthday.
01:53No lip glosses and eyeshadows.
01:55I was well chopped, because I'd never visited anyone before, like any friends for, like, birthday kind of thing.
02:01I didn't really have any friends growing up, so it was nice.
02:03When I first met Becky, we were like five years old.
02:08We didn't need to put an effort into our friendship, because we just naturally had the similar personalities, similar sense of humour.
02:18I ended up leaving my secondary school, because of an eating disorder, and I was referred to Bristol Hospital Education.
02:32Becky was also at that school, because she was going through an eating disorder at the time as well.
02:40I'd left my old school, because I was bullied.
02:44But the minute I got to Bristol Hospital School, I felt safe.
02:49When you're struggling, it's really good to meet other people, going through similar things.
02:54And in a way, we could all help each other.
02:57Becky just had such a kind heart, so did Courtney.
03:00And we just instantly clicked, and we were like three amigos.
03:04I remember coming back from school, Mum, I've got new friends.
03:07But yeah, I was so excited.
03:09I said, Mum, they take me for who I am, they don't think I'm weird.
03:12Because they're just as weird as me, so yeah, I loved it.
03:17We were on Facebook.
03:19Facebook Messenger and Snapchat.
03:22But mainly WhatsApp.
03:26We just spoke a lot of crap.
03:28Let's have a race so you can send each other the most messages.
03:30Okay, fine.
03:31She was up for anything, we just did it.
03:38One night she sent me over 700 messages.
03:41We didn't have a life really, did we?
03:42We just kept doing that all night for hours.
03:44Becky looks so nice in every scene.
03:52Yeah, I know, she was really photogenic.
03:54Yeah, she really liked that photo.
03:56She's like, you have to make it your cover of that on Facebook.
03:58She always loved her clothes and buying make-up and fashion.
04:06We would go to town and just buy new clothing all the time.
04:09When you're a teenager, you're still finding who you are
04:12and what style that you want to wear.
04:15You don't know who you are at that time, so we're trying to figure that out by buying clothes
04:19and trying on different make-up.
04:26Oh, there's a make-up care one.
04:28Yeah.
04:30Becky lived with her dad and her stepmother.
04:33Oh, yeah.
04:35Darren and Angie.
04:37Angie has multiple sclerosis
04:39and Becky would always do her own washing
04:42and clear up her own room and clear up after herself
04:45to lighten the load.
04:47She was always just a really caring person.
04:53Her stepbrother, Nathan,
04:55and his girlfriend, Shauna,
04:58were always at the house with their child
05:01so Angie could see her grandchild.
05:05Shauna was always really nice to Becky
05:08and she was so excited when she found out that Shauna was pregnant.
05:13She was like, I'm going to be an aunt.
05:17But Becky would butt heads with her dad
05:20because they're really similar personalities.
05:22They're both quite fiery.
05:24So they would clash.
05:27She told me that her and her dad had their ups and downs.
05:31Well, that's like really normal.
05:33Normal child and parent really, isn't it?
05:36At that age, you feel like your family don't understand you
05:40because when you're a teenager, you just think,
05:43oh, the adults don't get it.
05:46She wanted to start dating
05:48and meeting different people to do that,
05:50like meeting different boys.
05:52And that's when she met Luke.
05:56She had a boyfriend.
05:58Brilliant, it was.
05:59After Bristol Hospital Education,
06:04she went to a mainstream school for a little bit
06:07and that's where she met Luke.
06:11She would talk about him a lot.
06:13So I knew a bit about him.
06:15Like, I knew that he used to work at Tesco's
06:18and he would break packets of hobnobs
06:22so he could get them for free to give them to her
06:24because she really liked chocolate hobnobs.
06:25That was funny.
06:31I think occasionally they would have little tips
06:33but they really seemed like it was a blossoming romance.
06:55It was a half-term week
07:00so we were going to make some plans to meet up.
07:04I messaged her that morning
07:06at around probably, like, 11am.
07:10It went through on WhatsApp with two ticks
07:12which meant the message had gone through
07:13but she hadn't read it yet.
07:16And then I sent her another message, like, a few minutes later.
07:18It went through with one tick
07:22so I thought maybe her phone had died
07:24or maybe she was out with her boyfriend
07:26and switched her phone off
07:27because sometimes she would do that to be more present.
07:34Later on, I got a message from her boyfriend, Luke,
07:38saying,
07:38have you seen Becky
07:40because she was meant to meet up with me today
07:42and she hasn't
07:43and I was like,
07:44OK, that's strange.
07:47She was always on her phone, a lot
07:50so it was a bit unusual
07:53that no-one had got a hold of her
07:54especially Courtney
07:54because her and Courtney were like that
07:56and she confided in Courtney with everything.
07:58I phoned the landline number
08:08to speak to Angie.
08:11She goes,
08:13no, she hasn't come home
08:14but I'll let you know when she does.
08:17I don't think Angie was massively concerned
08:19because, like, it's a teenager.
08:21You don't think anything bad's going to happen.
08:28I did not think anything of it at all at first, nothing.
08:36I thought she's gone somewhere.
08:37She'll be back soon.
08:45The next day, I rang back to say,
08:48has she come home?
08:50She's like, no.
08:50And she said,
08:51when Darren comes home,
08:53we're going to call the police
08:55if she's still not back.
08:58Ladies and gentlemen,
09:04please, how can I help?
09:05Um, it appears my daughter's gone missing.
09:09No-one has seen her, no?
09:10No.
09:11We phoned around the family
09:12or her friends have contacted us
09:14and asked them where she is
09:16and none of them know.
09:17What's your name?
09:18Uh, Rebecca Watts.
09:19Bristol District CID
09:31were treating it
09:33as a missing person inquiry.
09:36Missing persons inquiries
09:38are generally graded
09:39low-level,
09:40medium-level
09:41and high-risk.
09:43It was quickly identified
09:45that Becky
09:46was quite vulnerable.
09:47She was only 16.
09:49She'd never gone missing before.
09:51She'd previously suffered
09:52from an eating disorder
09:54and she'd been in
09:55and out of mainstream schooling.
09:58So, because it was becoming
10:00more time-critical.
10:01And the decision was made
10:02that the major crime team
10:03were going to take over
10:03the investigation.
10:08Becky was very active
10:09on social media
10:10and also text messages
10:12and different forms
10:13of communication platforms.
10:15And all of a sudden
10:18it just stopped.
10:24It was very out of character
10:27and that elevated
10:28the level of investigation
10:30and the urgency around it.
10:32it's always good
10:37in any investigation
10:38to get an anchor point
10:39for the missing person.
10:41Then identify
10:43their last known movements.
10:47You can do that
10:48through telephone analysis,
10:50CCTV,
10:51through witnesses.
10:52you then build a picture
10:55of what is likely
10:58to have happened
10:58and where.
11:01Family members
11:02started supporting
11:03and assisting the police
11:04in trying to generate
11:06information around Becky.
11:07they said that
11:11on the morning
11:11that Becky went missing
11:12her step-mum
11:14and her dad
11:16went out
11:17whilst Becky
11:18was still at home
11:19and then Nathan
11:21and Shawna
11:22go round.
11:26I got there
11:27about eleven-ish
11:28heard music upstairs
11:30she and Becky
11:31had been in then.
11:34I went
11:35into the kitchen
11:37then I heard
11:38the front door slam.
11:39Shawna heard
11:40the door go
11:41so
11:43she was assuming
11:44it was Becky
11:45going out
11:45so I'm assuming
11:47it was Becky
11:47going out.
11:48It was almost
11:49as if she
11:50just literally
11:51in a moment
11:53disappeared.
12:01Her last known
12:02location was
12:03where her dad
12:03lived and where
12:04she lived
12:04so that's just
12:06our own point.
12:13I was called in
12:15to look at
12:16Becky's house
12:16to determine
12:18whether or not
12:18there was
12:19anything at the
12:21premises
12:21to indicate
12:22if she'd left
12:23of her own
12:24volition.
12:26If all her clothes,
12:28her coats
12:28were missing
12:29that would indicate
12:31that she'd
12:32planned to leave
12:33and there was
12:36no suggestion
12:36of that
12:37other than
12:39her laptop
12:39and her mobile
12:40device
12:41was missing.
12:42like old teenage
12:49girls,
12:49she's a bit
12:51of a poser.
12:52She changes
12:52three times a day.
12:54She would never
12:54have left this
12:55house without
12:56a suitcase
12:57with her
12:58for this amount
12:58of time.
13:00Let alone
13:00her toothbrushes
13:01here.
13:01There's just
13:02no way
13:03she would have
13:03left this house
13:04with all that
13:05missing.
13:06There's not
13:07a chance.
13:07I want a
13:12drink ready.
13:13No, it's
13:14fine.
13:15Dad, don't.
13:16I'm taking
13:16half of it.
13:17Well done,
13:24Dad.
13:24Well done.
13:27Yeah.
13:30When I say
13:30it's hot,
13:31it's hot.
13:32It's me,
13:33Dad.
13:34Yeah.
13:38I was talking
13:39with Becky's
13:40dad and I
13:40was saying
13:41I can go
13:42check in her
13:43room and see
13:43if anything's
13:44missing,
13:44like if she
13:45would have
13:45ran away
13:45and went
13:47into her
13:47bedroom and
13:49her clothing
13:49that she
13:50would have
13:50taken with
13:52her if she
13:52was going
13:52to run
13:52off is
13:53still here
13:53and all
13:55of her
13:55makeup is
13:56still here
13:57and she
13:58would have
13:58taken some
13:59of that.
14:00She would
14:00never go
14:00out without
14:01makeup on.
14:04It didn't
14:04make any
14:05sense.
14:08But then I
14:09was thinking
14:09what happened
14:10to her,
14:10you know?
14:17I work
14:25with young
14:26people,
14:26giving them
14:27a safe
14:27space and
14:28supporting
14:28them.
14:30Rather than
14:31mentoring,
14:32we call it
14:32being a
14:32trusted adult.
14:35Courtney and
14:36Becky would
14:37come once a
14:37week for two
14:38or three
14:38hours and do
14:40activities on
14:40the allotment.
14:41it was just
14:43trying to allow
14:44young people
14:44to express
14:45themselves in
14:46any environment.
14:48Being outside
14:48is just really
14:49good for your
14:49mental health
14:50and Des was
14:52someone you
14:52could trust
14:53as well,
14:55someone you
14:55could actually
14:55talk to and
14:56be genuine
14:57with.
14:57So it was
14:58a really good
14:58experience for
14:59us.
15:00Becky was
15:01due to do
15:01a session but
15:02I was told
15:03that she had
15:03gone missing.
15:04Everyone suddenly
15:05was very,
15:06very concerned
15:06because no one
15:07understood what
15:07happened to her.
15:09For her not to
15:10have let Courtney
15:11know where
15:12she was,
15:13was the big
15:13concern.
15:14They were very
15:15close and they
15:16looked after each
15:16other and they
15:17had a bond that
15:19I don't think
15:20many young people
15:21get to have.
15:30What we're known
15:31for doing is
15:32looking at call
15:32data, vehicle
15:33movements,
15:35interviews,
15:36CCTV, looking
15:37for patterns and
15:39movements within
15:40that which are
15:41open up different
15:42areas of
15:42investigation and
15:43lines of inquiry.
15:46We knew
15:47Becky's phone
15:48number that had
15:48been volunteered
15:49so we can access
15:50her phone call
15:51records.
15:53First thing you do
15:54is ask family
15:55members, friends,
15:56what is your phone
15:56number so we can
15:57start to build up
15:58an idea of who
15:59she's in contact
16:00with at those
16:00times.
16:02Becky and her
16:02boyfriend were
16:03text messaging and
16:04then all of a
16:05sudden no activity.
16:05it's only when
16:08you get one of
16:09those phones that
16:10the content of
16:11that message will
16:12be on the
16:13device.
16:15So that is the
16:16most obvious
16:17place to start
16:18looking.
16:18Becky's boyfriend
16:27Luke lived in
16:28Cottomale Lane
16:29which is in the
16:29Barnhill area of
16:30Bristol, two miles
16:33from Becky's.
16:34Not far.
16:39Typically it was
16:40quite a poor area
16:41of Bristol with
16:43lots of social
16:45problems, high
16:46rise flats, lots
16:48of people lived
16:48there for
16:49generations but
16:51Cottomale Lane
16:52was a new
16:53heart of Barnhill.
17:02We were keen to
17:03speak to Luke to
17:05find out what
17:06information he was
17:06able to provide us
17:07with, particularly
17:10in relation to
17:11last contact with
17:12Becky.
17:13Luke was very,
17:18very cooperative,
17:20not evasive and
17:22he said that he
17:23had a dentist
17:23appointment in the
17:24morning and he'd
17:26arranged to meet
17:27Becky afterwards.
17:31Becky's boyfriend
17:32volunteered his
17:32phone and we
17:33started seeing the
17:34messages exchanged
17:35with Becky just
17:36before she goes
17:37missing.
17:39Her boyfriend
17:40messages Becky,
17:42I'm back,
17:42babes.
17:43kisses,
17:44kiss emoji,
17:44heart.
17:46Becky replies
17:47goodie in capitals
17:48and we took that
17:49to mean that she's
17:50excited.
17:54Jamming me,
17:55she then says.
17:56We then understood
17:57was listening to
17:58music.
18:00Her boyfriend
18:00sends another
18:01message, no response
18:02from Becky at this
18:02point.
18:03I'm done in the
18:03dentist.
18:05No reply from
18:06Becky.
18:08And the next day,
18:09hello.
18:10jamming me was
18:14that last message
18:15from Becky to
18:16her boyfriend.
18:18And the last
18:19message to anyone.
18:24This is a young
18:26girl who was
18:26excited about the
18:27plans that she was
18:28having that day in a
18:29really jovial sort of
18:30mood, just exchanging
18:31sort of really
18:33light-hearted messages
18:33with her boyfriend.
18:34and there's just
18:35no indication that
18:38anything was
18:38particularly wrong
18:39or that she
18:40wouldn't meet him.
18:42There was no real
18:47explanation as to
18:48why Becky got
18:49missing.
18:50We were hoping
18:51that she would
18:51turn up in a
18:52couple of hours'
18:53time and that
18:54she'd be safe and
18:55well.
18:56But Luke was
18:57saying that she
18:57would pretty much
18:58respond immediately.
19:01And he was
19:02saying this just
19:02doesn't happen.
19:04She would always
19:04text me quite
19:06quickly in response
19:07to anything I
19:08would send her.
19:08He was very
19:12open, never
19:14gave me the
19:15impression that
19:16he had anything
19:16to hide.
19:18He just appeared
19:19to be a kid who
19:20just wanted to
19:21find her.
19:33Police are
19:34tonight growing
19:34increasingly concerned
19:35about a teenage
19:36girl.
19:36Becky Watts,
19:38who's 16,
19:39was last seen
19:40at her Bristol
19:40home.
19:41She told no one
19:42where she was
19:42going when she
19:43disappeared.
19:53Bex, if you're
19:54watching this,
19:56please come home.
19:58We love you so
19:59much.
20:00Whatever you
20:01think, we can
20:02sort anything
20:03out of the
20:04matter.
20:04Just come
20:05home.
20:05And if any
20:08of her friends
20:08are riding
20:08her, you're
20:09not doing
20:10any favours.
20:11Just bring
20:12her in
20:12safe.
20:15Sorry, I
20:16can't.
20:16Um...
20:16The press
20:30conference was
20:30distressing.
20:32They're in this
20:32awful state of
20:33limbo.
20:34They don't know
20:34where their
20:34daughter is.
20:35They don't
20:37have to do it.
20:37They don't know
20:38how to do it.
20:38Sorry.
20:41It's your
20:41worst nightmare.
20:42Where is
20:43your child
20:43gone?
20:45You're so
20:46loved, and I
20:47don't think you
20:47believe it.
20:48You really are
20:48so loved.
20:49And look at
20:50your poor
20:50dad.
20:51Please come
20:52home, or
20:52whoever's
20:53sheltering
20:55here.
20:56Do the right
20:57thing.
20:58I'd like to
21:05make a plea
21:06for everyone
21:07to get behind
21:07our online
21:08campaign
21:08using the
21:10hashtag
21:10Find Becky.
21:16There was a
21:17massive social
21:18media presence.
21:21It went
21:22global, this
21:23hashtag Find
21:24Becky, and
21:25everyone was
21:25talking, where's
21:26Becky, where's
21:27Becky?
21:28Our social
21:28media campaign
21:29has now reached
21:30more than 4
21:31million people
21:32worldwide.
21:35We're going
21:36to be meeting
21:36by the post
21:38box at the
21:39bottom of our
21:40road, and
21:41doing a mass
21:42search, and
21:43around the
21:44flits, going
21:45door to door.
21:46Very grateful,
21:47obviously, because
21:48people are taking
21:48their time out
21:49their own busy
21:49lives, just in
21:50case they're
21:50getting out
21:51there, finding
21:51their own
21:52room.
21:52Looking at
21:53parks and
21:54open ground,
21:55any place she
21:56might be, was
21:57just some
21:58desperate
21:58refinder.
22:00I was live
22:01for the 6.30
22:02programme with
22:03family members,
22:04grandparents,
22:05uncles and
22:05aunts.
22:06Hello, I
22:07love, sorry
22:07to trouble you.
22:08Basically, my
22:08niece has gone
22:09missing.
22:10You've each got
22:11flies over,
22:11Rebecca.
22:12Whatever you think
22:13you should keep
22:14an eye out,
22:14please do.
22:15It's awareness
22:16more than anything.
22:17You know, it's a
22:18sixth day, so there's
22:20a lot of anxiety
22:21with the family at
22:22the moment.
22:22When somebody
22:24goes missing
22:24who's down
22:25the road from
22:25you, we
22:26finally affect
22:26you, stay
22:27sad.
22:28And obviously
22:28we're just
22:29trying to do
22:30what we can
22:30where we can.
22:38I went to
22:38look in St
22:39George's Park
22:39and different
22:40areas for her.
22:41She wasn't
22:42someone who
22:42could go off
22:43gallivanting
22:43after Manchester
22:44or somewhere
22:45like that,
22:45or off clubbing
22:46for three nights
22:47without one of
22:48her friends.
22:48I brought
22:51all my friends
22:51in the search.
22:53We were out
22:54for hours.
22:56I just think
22:56it should be
22:57my duty for
22:58me and my
22:59friends to
22:59help find her
23:00and get her
23:01home safely.
23:03It's late
23:04and we all
23:05called it a
23:06night.
23:09I just felt
23:10really bad
23:10for Courtney
23:11really.
23:11I was looking
23:11at Courtney's
23:12face, little
23:12face, and I
23:13just, she
23:14just sat
23:14on the bench.
23:15She just
23:15looked hopeless.
23:16She just
23:17looked like,
23:17she just
23:18looked really
23:20like, don't
23:22know what
23:22to do.
23:22That's how
23:23she looked.
23:29I knew
23:29her, and I
23:31knew something
23:31was wrong.
23:33It was pretty
23:34clear that she
23:36wasn't somewhere
23:37willingly, if
23:39she was
23:40somewhere.
23:42Courtney
23:42was, she
23:45was just so
23:46confused.
23:46This
23:48afternoon, her
23:48best friend
23:49Courtney showed
23:50us a text she
23:51had sent
23:52Becky just
23:52nine minutes
23:53before she
23:54disappeared.
23:57She showed
23:57me her phone.
23:59This is a
23:59message I
24:00sent Becky
24:00nine minutes
24:02before the
24:03official time
24:04that she
24:04disappeared,
24:04which was at
24:0511.15 on
24:06that Thursday
24:06morning, and
24:07she said,
24:09the phone
24:09received it,
24:11but Becky
24:11never replied.
24:12At this
24:15point, Courtney's
24:16young.
24:17It's not only
24:17facing my best
24:19friend's gone
24:19missing, but
24:20suddenly having
24:20to do interviews.
24:23Courtney really
24:24wanted to do it.
24:24She wanted to
24:25help.
24:27She didn't
24:28really like walking
24:28out or around on
24:29her own, so it
24:31seems really strange
24:31that she went out
24:33without, like,
24:34nobody knows who
24:35she was meeting
24:35or where she was
24:36going.
24:36It seems really
24:37strange.
24:37she, yeah, she
24:42knew something
24:43bad had
24:43happened.
24:49Becky, if you
24:50can see this, get
24:52in contact, and
24:54if anyone out
24:54there knows
24:55something, just
24:56tell us.
24:57Spring, I'm
24:58safe.
24:59We just want
25:00her back.
25:01That's all we
25:01want.
25:03If you've got
25:03her, then put
25:05her somewhere we
25:05can find her.
25:06We want her
25:07home.
25:07Please.
25:14It's becoming
25:15increasingly likely
25:16that Becky had
25:17come to harm or
25:18been taken, rather
25:19than just run
25:20away.
25:23So our main
25:24priority is to
25:25find Becky
25:26alive.
25:28I looked at
25:28Becky's social
25:29media with the
25:30potential of
25:31finding something
25:31that's not quite
25:32right, something
25:33that gives us a
25:33clue.
25:35Was there an
25:35argument?
25:36Was there a
25:37threat?
25:40It was all
25:40Facebook Messenger,
25:42Facebook posts, and
25:44we are scrutinising
25:45all of this content,
25:46looking for who
25:48might be hiding
25:49something, who
25:49might have hurt
25:51Becky.
25:51there's definitely
25:55teenage dramas, not
25:57enjoying aspects of
25:58school, having bad
25:59days at school, the
26:01odd fallout of the
26:01friends that is
26:03pieced together two or
26:04three days later, but
26:06nothing suggests that
26:08she's going to run
26:08away or someone might
26:09have hurt Becky.
26:10police have carried out
26:15door-to-door inquiries, but
26:17with no further clues,
26:18they've now started
26:19searching nearby open
26:21spaces.
26:24It's not just us regionally
26:26telling the story,
26:27nationally, it's
26:29everywhere as well.
26:31Police in Bristol are
26:32continuing their search for
26:33the missing teenager,
26:34Becky Watts.
26:35The police were under a
26:43huge amount of
26:44pressure.
26:48We heard a lot of
26:49helicopters everywhere
26:50for days.
26:52Our whole road was
26:53jam-packed.
26:55And there was police
26:56everywhere.
26:59Wherever you went in
27:00the city, it felt that
27:02police officers were
27:03searching.
27:04Woodland,
27:05lakes, they had their
27:07divers out, they had
27:08their dogs out, they
27:09were throwing everything
27:10at it.
27:13We're working 18, 19
27:15hours a day, literally
27:17going home, having some
27:18sleep and then going
27:19back to work.
27:21We were very meticulous,
27:24very focused and
27:26determined.
27:29There's a lot of concern
27:30around what had happened
27:31to her.
27:32Everybody was working
27:33long hours, trying to
27:35find her proper
27:38committed team.
27:41We had a teenage
27:43daughter at the time
27:44and it does make you
27:46focused in mind.
27:49Where does she go?
27:50What sort of areas is she
27:52like to have
27:52frequented?
27:53We went through the
27:54process of eliminating
27:55those areas so that you
27:57haven't overlooked
27:57anything.
27:57I went to my allotment.
28:01You could see that there
28:02had been something going
28:03on down there.
28:05The manager said they'd
28:07given the key to the
28:07police and they'd been
28:08down to search looking
28:09for Becky.
28:10The fact that the police
28:11were searching my
28:11allotment, I can only
28:13assume was to see if I
28:14were involved in her
28:15disappearance.
28:16They'd search every friend
28:21of ours' house to see if
28:22she was there.
28:24Anyone that has
28:25contact with her in the
28:26last month or so becomes
28:27person of interest.
28:28people want to solve this
28:38puzzle, this strange
28:40mystery of how this person
28:42has disappeared.
28:44So there was speculation
28:45everywhere.
28:52There was this big rumour,
28:53could it be, could it be
28:54Haddad?
28:58When you get call records,
29:08you have what's called
29:09cell site locations
29:10attached to that.
29:12What that means is the
29:13target phone number used
29:15this telephone mast at
29:16that time.
29:18At that point, we can
29:18tell where the location
29:20of the mast was that was
29:21used for that phone
29:23activity.
29:24If someone's using their
29:26phone at home, they're
29:27going to be using one
29:28mast in the vicinity of
29:29the home address.
29:35We were confident she
29:37was at home when all of
29:39this contact stopped.
29:44Concern was growing.
29:46We feel that some harm may
29:47have come to her.
29:49We need to go back in and
29:50have a really closer look
29:52at the house.
29:53Darren and Angie had to leave.
30:04They weren't allowed to live
30:05there anymore.
30:06And the forensics moved in.
30:08We started at the threshold and
30:20worked our way in, looking for
30:23all sorts of different
30:24forensic traces.
30:26For prints, body fluids,
30:30blood.
30:31when there's some sort of
30:35assault scene, there's either
30:37items disturbed or they're
30:39put back too neat.
30:43And this didn't show any
30:46signs of that at all.
30:50Eventually, we found very
30:53small traces of blood on the
30:56architrave on the doorframe of
30:59her bedroom leading into the
31:00hallway.
31:04There wasn't spatter, which
31:06would indicate knife attack.
31:09But what made this important
31:11is that it was the location of
31:14the blood.
31:15It was relatively low down on
31:16the architrave.
31:19And there was a fingerprint in
31:21it.
31:21If she'd just been walking in and
31:29out of her bedroom, you'd expect
31:32the fingerprints to be upright or,
31:34you know.
31:36But for them to be upside down
31:38and down low would suggest there'd
31:40been some sort of struggle at a
31:42lower level.
31:45It just all screamed something was
31:47wrong.
31:47We needed to know who the
31:52fingerprint belonged to and who
31:55the blood belonged to as well.
31:59We started looking at the
32:01National Database of
32:02Fingerprints and we took the
32:05fingerprints from the normal
32:07people that would be within the
32:09house so we could easily
32:11eliminate people.
32:12We'd recovered some DNA samples
32:16for Becky and that came from a
32:19toothbrush, a hairbrush, the
32:21things that we knew were hers.
32:24So we had something to compare the
32:26blood to and the blood did come
32:30back to Becky.
32:31Then we got a match to see the
32:39fingerprint found in blood on the
32:41doorframe into Becky's bedroom.
32:45The fingerprint belonged to
32:47Becky's dad brother, Nathan Matthews.
32:54Nathan and Sean talk about being at
33:01the house with Becky, but they
33:04don't see her.
33:07Then you find this evidence which
33:09might suggest that at least one of
33:10them has come into contact with
33:12Becky.
33:14There was sufficient grounds to
33:17arrest them on suspicion of
33:18kidnapping.
33:18The reason I've come here is to
33:40make an arrest of yourself, okay?
33:43And what I'm going to do is explain
33:44everything here and out, okay?
33:46Just put your hands like that for me,
33:47it's all right.
33:50They were calm, collected.
33:53Only compliant on hypnosis test yet.
33:55Not over emotional.
34:07I was watching the news.
34:09Right, you ready?
34:10For the end news on Becky.
34:12On Saturday afternoon, a 28-year-old
34:15man and a 21-year-old woman
34:17were arrested on suspicion of the
34:19kidnap of Rebecca Watts.
34:21Oh my God, what?
34:22That's crazy.
34:24How have we got to a place
34:25Rebecca's been kidnapped?
34:30When I found out the age of the
34:31people who got arrested, I went,
34:32that sounds like it could be
34:34Nathan and Shauna.
34:35But you bleed with your heart
34:37rather than your brain and you
34:38just think that someone that's a
34:40member of that family wouldn't do
34:42that.
34:47This interview has been digitally
34:49recorded and I'm Marie
34:51Stephen, Detective Constable
34:533302.
34:55You were at the address at the
34:56time that Rebecca or Becky, I think
34:58most people know that.
34:59Becky, yeah.
35:00Yeah, Becky.
35:00Or Bex.
35:01Yeah, okay.
35:02Do you know who's Becky or Bex?
35:03Uh, usually call her Bex.
35:07Did you go upstairs in the house
35:09on that Thursday?
35:11Mmm, I'd say no.
35:13No.
35:14I can't remember.
35:15At most, if the door was shut.
35:20At any time were you concerned
35:22about leaving him on his own in the
35:24house with Becky?
35:24Yeah.
35:26There's never been any previous
35:27occasions where he's been a bit,
35:29his behaviour towards her has been a bit
35:32seen appropriate order of violence.
35:34No.
35:35No?
35:35Not to my knowledge, ever.
35:38Has he ever...
35:40The study's interested in kidnapping
35:43anyone or have you seen him go on
35:44any websites or anything at all?
35:46I have no idea.
35:46That's...
35:47As the interviews are progressing
35:55and accounts are being given by
35:57Shauna and Nathan, one of the big
35:59lines of investigation was the
36:01examination of Shauna and Nathan's
36:04house, which was across the road
36:08from Becky's boyfriend, Luke, and
36:10his family.
36:14Approaching Lydra.
36:19Hello, please.
36:20It was dirty.
36:25It was two steps of the stairs.
36:28That's the comfort of the way.
36:31Room to the left, besides the living area,
36:33living room.
36:36It was the hoarder's house.
36:42You had trouble moving around because it was so cluttered
36:46and untidy.
36:49It's leading to a kitchen area.
36:54There was a cupboard under the stairs that was so full
36:59they didn't know what was in there.
37:02And it turns out there was a downstairs toilet.
37:07And they didn't even know it was.
37:10That's how much stuff was sort of crammed in there.
37:15Shauna and Nathan's house was a complete mass.
37:17It was almost inconceivable that they were living there
37:23with a small child.
37:32And then you got to the bathroom.
37:35One side was dirty, but there was a line.
37:40Almost like this side of the bathroom was sparklingly clean,
37:45had been polished almost.
37:46I was conscious that actually,
37:49when it comes to bathing, maybe washing,
37:53you know, they keep the bath clean.
37:56But it felt wrong.
37:58It was too clean.
38:04Across this city, there is an intensive search for clues,
38:07evidence being gathered in the hunt for a missing teenager.
38:11Police have been given more time to question two people
38:14in connection with the disappearance of 16-year-old Becky Watts.
38:17Is there anything that happened that could be significant
38:24in the disappearance of Rebecca?
38:32No.
38:32Are you absolutely sure?
38:39Yes.
38:40I know you've got something to tell us.
38:42Mm-hmm.
38:43I can see it in your face.
38:45I was just making sure there was nothing,
38:47like a weird, significant thing that I hadn't thought of.
38:50Um, I don't know anything.
39:01She's very tight.
39:03That is a sign that somebody is being defensive
39:06and they're closing themselves off to you.
39:10She knows that something serious has happened,
39:13but she doesn't want to say.
39:17What we're most interested in is finding Becky.
39:21Yeah?
39:21Yeah.
39:21That's what the police want to do.
39:23Yeah.
39:23So,
39:25what can you tonight tell us
39:28about Becky's disappearance?
39:33And then,
39:35like,
39:36what do you want to know?
39:37We want to find her.
39:38Where is she?
39:40I don't know where she is.
39:41Nathan and Shauna's house
40:01was divided into zones,
40:04so as we knew exactly what came from where.
40:09It's very laborious,
40:11slow,
40:13painstaking.
40:15It was a huge operation.
40:22Yep.
40:23Okay.
40:26And we found
40:28some receipts
40:30from B&Q,
40:32four face masks,
40:34gloves,
40:36cleaning products,
40:38and a circular saw.
40:41All that being bought
40:43within the time frame
40:45of Becky going missing.
40:46You can't just make an assumption
40:56that Nathan purchased
40:58the electric saw.
41:00So,
41:00the branch of the B&Q
41:02is identified.
41:04Officers attend.
41:06We've got to get
41:07identification
41:08that it's him.
41:09The CCTV shows,
41:17quite clearly,
41:18Nathan's gone to B&Q.
41:20He takes a box
41:22with a saw in it,
41:23he has a proper examination of it.
41:26Probably deciding
41:27whether or not
41:27that's capable of doing
41:28what he wants to do.
41:30goes to pay for it.
41:36And then there's an argument
41:37about whether he should
41:38have the saw
41:39at the advertised price
41:40because
41:42there was a suggestion
41:44it was in the sale.
41:45buying these items
41:49a bit of time
41:50when Becky's missing.
41:52It just seemed like
41:53going about
41:54day-to-day business.
41:57What has happened
41:57to Becky?
41:58Is she still alive
41:59somewhere that we
42:00don't know about?
42:01And we need to go in
42:02and stop any harm
42:03coming to her.
42:07Is she safe?
42:08Well, I didn't know
42:09if she was so
42:09I meant to know.
42:10Do you know
42:11if she's alive?
42:12No.
42:13No.
42:14Have you hurt her?
42:17No, I haven't hurt her.
42:44No, I haven't hurt her.
42:47No, I haven't hurt her.
42:48No, I haven't hurt her.
42:49No, I haven't hurt her.
42:49No, I haven't hurt her.
42:50No, I haven't hurt her.
42:51No, I haven't hurt her.
42:52No, I haven't hurt her.
42:53No, I haven't hurt her.
42:54No, I haven't hurt her.
42:55No, I haven't hurt her.
42:56No, I haven't hurt her.
42:57No, I haven't hurt her.
42:58No, I haven't hurt her.
42:59No, I haven't hurt her.
43:00No, I haven't hurt her.
43:01No, I haven't hurt her.
43:02No, I haven't hurt her.
43:03No, I haven't hurt her.
43:04No, I haven't hurt her.
43:05No, I haven't hurt her.
43:06No, I haven't hurt her.
