In the mid 9th century, the Viking warlord Björn Ironside, son of the legendary Ragnar Lothbrok, led a daring raid deep into the Mediterranean.
After plundering along the coasts of France and Spain, his fleet reached Italy, where he set his sights on the wealthy city of Luna believed by the Vikings to be Rome itself.

When the city refused to surrender, Björn devised a brilliant deception: he faked his own death, claiming to convert to Christianity so the townspeople would allow his body inside for a “Christian burial.”
Once the coffin entered Luna’s gates, Björn leapt from it alive, sword in hand. His warriors stormed the walls, looting the city before sailing back north in triumph.

This episode became one of the most legendary Viking raids in medieval history a tale of cunning, ambition, and audacity that made Björn Ironside’s name echo through the ages.
