00:0014. The Sixth Sense, The Door to the Temple of Wisdom
00:05The Thirteenth Step Toward Riches
00:08The thirteenth principle is known as the sixth sense,
00:13through which infinite intelligence may, and will,
00:17communicate voluntarily without any effort from or demands by the individual.
00:24This principle is the apex of the philosophy.
00:27It can be assimilated, understood, and applied
00:31only by first mastering the other twelve principles.
00:36The sixth sense is that portion of the subconscious mind
00:39which has been referred to as the creative imagination.
00:43It has also been referred to as the receiving set
00:46through which ideas, plans, and thoughts flash into the mind.
00:51The flashes are sometimes called hunches or inspirations.
00:55The sixth sense defies description.
00:59It cannot be described to a person
01:01who has not mastered the other principles of this philosophy,
01:05because such a person has no knowledge
01:08and no experience with which the sixth sense may be compared.
01:13Understanding of the sixth sense
01:15comes only by meditation through mind development from within.
01:19The sixth sense probably is the medium of contact
01:23between the finite mind of man and infinite intelligence,
01:28and for this reason it is a mixture of both the mental and the spiritual.
01:33It is believed to be the point at which the mind of man
01:37contacts the universal mind.
01:40After you have mastered the principles described in this book,
01:43you will be prepared to accept as truth
01:46a statement which may otherwise be incredible to you,
01:50namely, through the aid of the sixth sense
01:53you will be warned of impending dangers in time to avoid them,
01:57and notified of opportunities in time to embrace them.
02:02There comes to your aid and to do your bidding
02:05with the development of the sixth sense
02:07a guardian angel who will open to you at all times
02:11the door to the temple of wisdom.
02:14Whether or not this is a statement of truth
02:16you will never know
02:18except by following the instructions
02:20described in the pages of this book
02:22or some similar method of procedure.
02:25The author is not a believer in
02:27nor an advocate of miracles
02:29for the reason that he has enough knowledge of nature
02:32to understand that nature never deviates
02:35from her established laws.
02:38Some of her laws are so incomprehensible
02:40that they produce what appear to be miracles.
02:44The sixth sense comes as near to being a miracle
02:47as anything I have ever experienced,
02:50and it appears so only because
02:52I do not understand the method
02:54by which this principle is operated.
02:57This much the author does know
02:59that there is a power
03:00or a first cause
03:02or an intelligence
03:03which permeates every atom of matter
03:06and embraces every unit of energy
03:09perceptible to man.
03:11That this infinite intelligence
03:13converts acorns into oak trees,
03:16causes water to flow downhill
03:18in response to the law of gravity,
03:21follows night with day
03:23and winter with summer,
03:25each maintaining its proper place
03:27and relationship to the other.
03:29This intelligence may,
03:31through the principles of this philosophy,
03:34be induced to aid in transmuting desires
03:37into concrete or material form.
03:40The author has this knowledge
03:43because he has experimented with it
03:45and has experienced it.
03:48Step by step,
03:50through the preceding chapters,
03:52you have been led to this,
03:53the last principle.
03:55If you have mastered
03:56each of the preceding principles,
03:58you are now prepared to accept,
04:00without being skeptical,
04:02the stupendous claims made here.
04:04If you have not mastered the other principles,
04:07you must do so
04:08before you may determine definitely
04:10whether or not
04:11the claims made in this chapter
04:13are fact or fiction.
04:16While I was passing through
04:17the age of hero worship,
04:19I found myself trying to imitate
04:21those whom I most admired.
04:24Moreover,
04:24I discovered that the element of faith
04:26with which I endeavored
04:28to imitate my idols
04:29gave me great capacity
04:31to do so quite successfully.
04:33I have never entirely divested myself
04:37of this habit of hero worship,
04:39although I have passed the age
04:40commonly given over to such.
04:43My experiences taught me
04:44that the next best thing
04:46to being truly great
04:48is to emulate the great
04:49by feeling and action
04:51as nearly as possible.
04:55Long before I had ever written
04:57a line for publication
04:58or endeavored to deliver
04:59a speech in public,
05:00I followed the habit
05:02of reshaping my own character
05:04by trying to imitate
05:06the nine men
05:07whose lives and life works
05:09had been most impressive to me.
05:11These nine men were
05:13Emerson,
05:14Payne,
05:15Edison,
05:16Darwin,
05:17Lincoln,
05:19Burbank,
05:20Napoleon,
05:21Ford,
05:22and Carnegie.
05:24Every night
05:25over a long period of years,
05:27I held an imaginary council meeting
05:29with this group
05:30whom I called
05:32my invisible counsellors.
05:34The procedure was this.
05:36Just before going to sleep at night,
05:38I would shut my eyes
05:40and see in my imagination
05:42this group seated with me
05:44around my council table.
05:46Here I had not only opportunity
05:48to sit among those
05:50whom I considered to be great,
05:52but I actually dominated the group
05:54by serving as the chairman.
05:56I had a very definite purpose
05:59in indulging my imagination
06:01through these nightly meetings.
06:03My purpose was to rebuild
06:05my own character
06:06so it would represent
06:08a composite
06:09of the characters
06:10of my imaginary counsellors.
06:12Realizing,
06:13as I did,
06:14early in life,
06:15that I had to overcome
06:16the handicap of birth
06:18in an environment
06:19of ignorance
06:20and superstition,
06:21I deliberately assigned myself
06:23the task
06:24of voluntary rebirth
06:26through the method
06:27here described.
06:30Building character
06:31through auto-suggestion
06:33Being an earnest student
06:36of psychology,
06:37I knew, of course,
06:38that all men
06:39have become what they are
06:41because of their
06:42dominating thoughts
06:43and desires.
06:44I knew that
06:45every deeply-seated desire
06:47has the effect
06:48of causing one
06:49to seek outward expression
06:51through which
06:52that desire
06:53may be transmuted
06:54into reality.
06:56I knew that
06:56self-suggestion
06:58is a powerful factor
06:59in building character,
07:01that it is, in fact,
07:03the sole principle
07:04through which character
07:05is builded.
07:07With this knowledge
07:08of the principles
07:09of mind operation,
07:11I was fairly armed
07:12with the equipment
07:13needed in rebuilding
07:14my character.
07:16In these imaginary
07:17council meetings,
07:18I called on my
07:19cabinet members
07:20for the knowledge
07:21I wished each
07:22to contribute,
07:24addressing myself
07:25to each member
07:25in audible words
07:27as follows.
07:29Mr. Emerson,
07:30I desire to acquire
07:32from you
07:32the marvelous
07:33understanding of nature
07:35which distinguished
07:35your life.
07:37I ask that you
07:38make an impression
07:39on my subconscious mind
07:40of whatever qualities
07:42you possessed
07:43which enabled you
07:44to understand
07:45and adapt yourself
07:46to the laws of nature.
07:48I ask that you
07:49assist me
07:50in reaching
07:51and drawing upon
07:52whatever sources
07:53of knowledge
07:53are available
07:54to this end.
07:57Mr. Burbank,
07:58I request that you
07:59pass on to me
08:00the knowledge
08:01which enabled you
08:02to so harmonize
08:03the laws of nature
08:04that you cause
08:05the cactus
08:06to shed its thorns
08:07and become
08:08an edible food.
08:10Give me access
08:11to the knowledge
08:12which enabled you
08:13to make two blades
08:14of grass
08:15grow where
08:15but one grew
08:16and help you
08:17to blend
08:18the coloring
08:18of the flowers
08:19with more splendor
08:21and harmony
08:21for you alone
08:23have successfully
08:24gilded the lily.
08:26Napoleon,
08:27I desire to acquire
08:29from you
08:29by emulation
08:31the marvelous ability
08:32you possessed
08:33to inspire men
08:34and to arouse them
08:36to greater
08:36and more determined
08:37spirit of action.
08:39Also to acquire
08:41the spirit
08:41of enduring faith
08:43which enabled you
08:44to turn defeat
08:45into victory
08:46and to surmount
08:47staggering obstacles.
08:49Emperor of fate,
08:51king of chance,
08:52man of destiny,
08:54I salute you.
08:56Mr. Payne,
08:57I desire to acquire
08:59from you
08:59the freedom of thought
09:01and the courage
09:02and clarity
09:02with which to express
09:04convictions
09:04which so distinguished you.
09:07Mr. Darwin,
09:08I wish to acquire
09:09from you
09:10the marvelous patience
09:11and ability
09:12to study cause
09:13and effect
09:14without bias
09:15or prejudice
09:16so exemplified
09:18by you
09:18in the field
09:19of natural science.
09:21Mr. Lincoln,
09:22I desire to build
09:24into my own character
09:25the keen sense
09:26of justice,
09:27the untiring spirit
09:29of patience,
09:30the sense of humor,
09:31the human understanding,
09:33and the tolerance
09:34which were
09:35your distinguishing
09:36characteristics.
09:38Mr. Carnegie,
09:39I am already
09:40indebted to you
09:41for my choice
09:42of a life work
09:43which has brought me
09:44great happiness
09:45and peace of mind.
09:46I wish to acquire
09:47a thorough understanding
09:49of the principles
09:50of organized effort
09:51which you used
09:52so effectively
09:53in the building
09:54of a great
09:55industrial enterprise.
09:57Mr. Ford,
09:59you have been
09:59among the most
10:00helpful of the men
10:01who have supplied
10:03much of the material
10:04essential to my work.
10:06I wish to acquire
10:07your spirit
10:08of persistence,
10:09the determination,
10:10poise,
10:11and self-confidence
10:12which have enabled
10:13you to master poverty,
10:15organize,
10:16unify,
10:17and simplify
10:18human effort
10:19so I may help
10:20others to follow
10:21in your footsteps.
10:23Mr. Edison,
10:24I have seated you
10:26nearest to me
10:26at my right
10:27because of the
10:28personal cooperation
10:29you have given me
10:31during my research
10:32into the causes
10:33of success
10:33and failure.
10:35I wish to acquire
10:36from you
